00:00India's medical technology sector still relies heavily on imports.
00:05It currently imports a large number of medical devices to meet its needs from countries like
00:12the United States, Germany, China and Singapore.
00:16In any hospital, there are 100 or 95 doctors from India.
00:25But the situation is changing.
00:37In recent years, India has started manufacturing medical technology devices domestically.
00:43The country's first dedicated medical device park, the Andhra Pradesh MedTech Zone or AMTZ
00:51was set up in 2016 in Visakhapatanam, a port city in the northeastern Andhra Pradesh state.
00:59India's medical device market is predicted to reach $50 billion by 2030, up from just
01:06$11 billion in 2022.
01:10The country's reliance on imports for medical devices is also expected to drop to around
01:1635%.
01:17Inside AMTZ, TUV Rhineland certifies most of the products manufactured by companies here.
01:24When a device passes all required checks, it is certified according to international
01:31statistics.
01:32standards.
01:33Even if the device fails the certification test, the cost of improvements remains low because
01:39all the processes take place within the medical device park.
01:46So, we will have to do a general safety standard, then a product specific particular standard safety testing, then the EMC testing, then the EMC testing, then
01:53the account acoustic, then the biocompatibility, then the biocompatibility, then the biocompatibility.
01:54If it qualifies in all aspects, then the EMC testing, then the biocompatibility, then the
01:55biocompatibility.
01:56If it qualifies in all aspects, the product is fit to use.

02:25The AMTZ says that due to lower manufacturing costs in India, producing these medical machines
02:32and products domestically, costs about 30% to 40% less.
02:38With medical device parks, India aims to shift from being an importer of medical technology
02:44to becoming a major exporter.
02:47Despite the country's rapid growth in medical device manufacturing, CEO Jitendra Sharma believes
02:53there is a still significant room for improvement in the quality of human resources.
03:00The AMTZ has established a university dedicated to medical technology on its premises to address the issue.
03:14Students will be taught practical knowledge inside the factories and R&D centers.
