Meet the Israeli war-time caretaker of dogs

As air-raid sirens wailed and explosions rattled the sky during the recent conflict between Israel and Iran, Hadar Gutman’s small home in Hadera became a sanctuary—for her and five dogs, two of whom have paralysed limbs.

An animal communicator and caretaker, Gutman spent 12 tense days guiding her canine companions through the chaos with empathy and calm.

"I can be a bit alert, from the alarms or from what is going to come, but it's not making them to be nervous because I'm not trying to hide it," 39-year-old Gutman said. "I'm actually saying to them telepathically, energetically - OK, things happen now, it can be scary, but we are together, we can hold it now together."

Gutman says she uses telepathic and energetic techniques to reassure her animals, and turn each shelter visit into a comforting routine.

00:00It's not that I'm not scared from the war. I'm scared from... I don't love the
00:21alarms, it makes my body to twitch and the bombs. But I'm not scared to
00:29feel it from the scaredness. So if I'm not scared of it, it actually helps them to
00:35understand that it's okay to feel scared. So, okay, so we are a bit anxious, but we
00:42can be together and to hold it together.
00:46I can be a bit alert from the alarms or from what is going to come, but it's not
01:03make them to be nervous because I'm not trying to hide it differently. I'm
01:07actually saying it to them telepathically, yes, or energetically, that, okay, things
01:13happen now. It can be scary, but we are together. We can hold it now, together.
01:18And then we are all going to the shelter that is inside the house.
01:24They learn very fast that this is what happens. There is alarm. Yeah, we're all going and
01:45we are making it, I'm making it really happy. Okay, come on, let's go. We're going now to
01:51the room and it's fun for them. We're bringing inside food for them and we're
01:56giving to them and they suddenly have a lot of attention. So it doesn't make it
02:02something bad. It's actually fun. We are all together as a family, going together and
02:07now every one of them have their own time.
02:09And we don't walk, walking every day in the fields usually. So in the beginning I was scared
02:35to take them out to the fields. I don't love when alarms will start when I'm on the open
02:40area. This really scares me. I think I'm more scared about them, what will happen if something
02:48will happen, the bombs and even if it won't fall near us. I'm scared that suddenly it will
02:55be too strong, the explosion. But yesterday, the first time in this week, we went out for
03:04an hour to walk. And it was really important for all of us.
03:17I think they are all working together as a pack, as a family. And it helps each other.
03:23I mean, I don't feel that one of them is much more anxious than others.
03:27I think they are all working together.
03:55it could work together.
