00:01In the aftermath of Israel's strike on Tehran's Evin prison, footage showing nearby debris
00:06and damage quickly circulated online.
00:09Along with a video published by Israel's foreign minister that appeared to show the
00:13attack itself, this is exactly what the families of two French detainees had been fearing since
00:20Israel and Iran started trading strikes earlier this month.
00:25The prison gate is supposedly about 500 metres from where they're being held, so it's extremely
00:30close.
00:31It's now a matter of the utmost urgency to get them out of there.
00:34Cécile Coulaire and her partner Jacques Paris have been held in Iran since May 2022 on espionage
00:43charges which their families reject.
00:46They're being kept in Evin prison, known for holding political prisoners and where rights
00:51groups say torture is routine.
00:54The French president condemned the attack on the facility, saying it had nothing to do
00:57with Israel's stated objectives.
01:00It does nothing to reduce Iran's nuclear program and it has endangered the lives of Iranian and
01:06foreign civilians.
01:09France's Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barreau said he had received assurances that Coulaire
01:14and Paris were unharmed, though the lawyer for their families said he had not received
01:19any proof of life by Tuesday morning.
01:22Martin Pradel urged Macron to go one step further by recognizing that the attack could qualify
01:28as a war crime.
01:32If, as an Israeli minister himself said, this civilian building was deliberately targeted,
01:38then this situation may well qualify as what we call a war crime.
01:45According to Iranian media, the attack not only struck the prison's main entrance, but also
01:50damaged a prosecutor's office and two courts within the complex.
