00:30These assessments were designed to measure learning levels, but in practice they have become more of a formality than a true educational diagnosis.
00:39In their early days, the national test generated such a high level of stress that student suicides were even recorded.
00:46There were also cases of massive fraud due to the advanced sale of exams and their answers, which weakened their credibility.
00:53Such was the degree of discredit that at one point sector authorities went so far as to say that tests were not relevant for passing grades.
01:00It is true that the quality of education is not defined exclusively by an exam, but this type of assessment still provides useful indicators of the level of learning achieved.
01:10What is required now is for authorities, teachers and students to approach this process calmly and with the firm intention of showing the country how education is truly progressing.
01:20If the results reflect that a significant percentage of students failed to learn what they were taught, it will be essential to seriously review the quality of teaching, the methods used and the resources available.
01:31There can be no doubt that the country needs quality education with teachers in constant training, decent and well-equipped schools, safe environments and real opportunities to learn and progress.
01:42If the Dominican Republic wants to advance, it must do so on the basis of excellent education that cultivates talent and becomes an engine of development.
