Armed Forces flag-raising at Portsmouth Guildhall

The event is part of a national week of Armed Forces Week celebrations beginning on Monday 23 June, to show support for the men and women who make up the Armed Forces Community.

00:00It's really important, and we are the home of the Royal Navy, and so it's really, really important that we recognise this.

00:08And I think it's important that we remember the veterans, and it's great to see Caddy and the standards here today,

00:15serving personnel in the armed forces, and also to remember the next generation that are coming forward, who we need to encourage kids.

00:24I'm humbled by my fellow service personnel, who unwaveringly protect our nation.

00:30Safeguarding our freedoms and contributing to global security, non-stop, every single day.

00:36Our national pride for those serving is wonderfully evident all year round, especially here in Portsmouth,

00:42where that partnership goes back to the very beginning of the senior service.

00:46In other gatherings, we quite rightly pay respect to the sacrifices of those who've gone before us to secure our freedoms,

00:54but Armed Forces Week gives the nation an opportunity to celebrate.

00:59To celebrate those who serve today, regardless of time to offer, recognising their sense of purpose, adventure,

01:05and the unique community and belonging that gives them the strength to serve.

01:11Celebrate those who support our armed forces in everything they do,

01:14the civil servants, our industry partners, and our charities that work tirelessly alongside us every day.

01:20Celebrate the national partnership that helps our armed forces drive innovation, create jobs,

01:27and strengthen the UK economy through skills, technology, and industry.

01:33Our armed forces, their professionalism, their courage, is built on the firmest foundation of our national pride in the men and women who serve.

01:43In that moment of conflict, in that moment of action, we must know you are behind us.
