00:00You all right, babe?
00:02I'm Alison Hammond.
00:03You all right?
00:04I'm spending a weekend with some of the UK's biggest stars.
00:08Thanks.
00:09I'm on a mission to get all the gossip.
00:12Go and get a pregnancy.
00:13Could you imagine?
00:14You have got the waistcoat one.
00:16I've started domestic.
00:17On your favourite celebrities.
00:20I've just got Alan Carr with me.
00:21Alan Carr? Unbelievable.
00:24There'll be no holding back.
00:26Was you quite an awkward kid?
00:27Yes, I don't think I was very comfortable in my own skin.
00:30As I get up close.
00:32I was living a life behind closed doors.
00:34That's completely different.
00:36And very personal.
00:38It was really hard.
00:42This is going to be very fun.
00:44Absolutely buzzy.
00:48I am so excited.
00:50We're off to see the lovely Perry Edwards today.
00:53You go your way.
00:55I'll go mine.
00:57Obviously, we all know she is a massive pop star.
01:02She's got this incredible solo career.
01:05This is a woman who's been in a pop band for literally half of her life.
01:10She's only 31 years old.
01:12So young.
01:13Does that affect you, like, being in the industry for that long?
01:17Perry was only 17 when she auditioned for the X Factor and shot to fame as part of Little Mix.
01:27They dominated the charts for over a decade before the girls called it quits to focus on their solo careers.
01:34With millions of followers, her own clothing brand and a relationship with England footballer Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, who she has a young son with, Perry is constantly in the headlines and recently opened up about her mental health struggles.
01:50I love watching Perry on TikTok.
01:53I want to know, what's her real life compared to her social media life?
01:59Come out of the house!
02:01Oh, my days.
02:02That's like a palace.
02:05It's so hidden.
02:06Oh, lovely.
02:12Hello!
02:13Hi, mate!
02:14Oh, you're like lovely.
02:15You're all right?
02:16Oh, thanks for inviting me.
02:18How are you?
02:19Thank you for coming over.
02:19Come here.
02:19I need to take my shoes off.
02:21I've got these really thick socks on.
02:23Go for the heel.
02:24The heel.
02:25Go for the heel.
02:26Go on.
02:27It must be...
02:28Hang on.
02:31Wait, hang on.
02:32Go on.
02:33Sorry.
02:34That's it.
02:34Right, there's one.
02:35Thank you, darling.
02:35I always like to take my shoes off.
02:37Ready?
02:37Yes.
02:38Got it, got it, got it.
02:38Right.
02:39Sorry.
02:39I didn't want to...
02:40You know when people yang your leg, though?
02:42It's lovely.
02:42So nice to meet you.
02:43What a lovely house.
02:45Oh, my God, it's beautiful.
02:48Come through.
02:49We'll just go to the kitchen.
02:50He's stunning.
02:51Hatch, you don't start.
02:53Oh, my God.
02:54Say hello.
02:55Hi, darling.
02:55It's because you're not giving him attention.
02:58There.
02:59Hi, darling.
03:00What a gorgeous baby.
03:02I know he's lovely, isn't he?
03:03How lovely is this house?
03:06I'll actually give it a rest.
03:07You like the attention, don't you?
03:09I feel like he's...
03:10I don't know if he's full Pomeranian, so I've just done a DNA test for him.
03:14Oh, right, so when do you get it back?
03:16In, like, two weeks.
03:17I'm so excited.
03:18But I feel like I've just paid, like, £100 to find out he's just a Pomeranian.
03:22Literally, she could have given me that £100 and I would have told her it's a Pomeranian.
03:26It's 100% Pomeranian.
03:27How's the baby?
03:32He's there.
03:33Oh, a little Axel.
03:34He asks me to marry him all the time.
03:35No, he doesn't.
03:36He does.
03:36He gets, like, a little ring out of my drawer and he goes, Mummy, will you marry me?
03:40And I'm like, yeah.
03:41You can't marry your mum.
03:42Oh, you're there.
03:43I'm like, yeah, I'll marry her.
03:44No other woman will.
03:46No, I'm joking.
03:46I'm not going to be like that.
03:47I'm really not going to be like that.
03:49Do you love being a mum?
03:50I love it.
03:50It's the best thing that ever happened to me.
03:52And I think I've had a really blessed life.
03:54I've lived out my dream.
03:56I sing on stage.
03:57But having a baby was like, holy heck, this is it.
04:01What's it like being with a footballer?
04:02I always wonder what that is like.
04:04It's nice to have someone that's, like, in a similar line of work because then they get it.
04:08Like, we're very understanding of each other.
04:10But at the same time, it's hard.
04:11Like, they're travelling a lot.
04:12I bet it works, though, because, like, you don't see each other.
04:15You've got that little space.
04:16Then you see each other and you're like...
04:18Yeah, it's nice.
04:20Like, I still get excited.
04:21Like, I still get nervous.
04:23I think she's got the perfect relationship.
04:25I mean, they never see each other.
04:27I think I need to find a footballer.
04:29You're going to give me a tour of the house, or what?
04:30Yeah, sure.
04:31Where should we go?
04:32Do you want to go in the wardrobe?
04:34This is every girl's dream.
04:36It's like a shop.
04:37I know my mum's had that.
04:37Oh, hi, guys.
04:38Can I buy those?
04:40I had this all done and I was so happy with it.
04:43And then I was like, Alex, this is your section.
04:44Is that it?
04:48Oh, my God.
04:49You've got your own studio.
04:50Do you know how to use all this, then?
04:52No, I actually can't use any of it.
04:54Oh, stop it.
04:55Is that you?
04:56That was me when I was pregnant.
04:58I love it.
04:59This bit keeps falling off.
05:00And obviously, it's my tats.
05:04Did you design all this?
05:06Yeah.
05:07Do you know what?
05:07I got all this stuff from TK Maxx and Asda George.
05:09You've got a really good taste.
05:11Let's see what sort of life Alex is leaving.
05:15Is this his side or your side?
05:18That's his side.
05:19This is my side.
05:19Oh, so you're a righty.
05:21I'm a righty as well.
05:22Oh, yeah.
05:22This just feels a bit too.
05:23I bet you just love when Alex is back.
05:24I sleep so much better when he's here as well.
05:27Do you?
05:27Yeah.
05:28To be fair, Axel's always in my bed.
05:30He's always like, sleep over.
05:31And I'm like, yeah, sure.
05:32Are you going to have another one?
05:33I'd love more.
05:34How many?
05:35I've always wanted four.
05:36Yeah.
05:37But I feel like that's a bit excessive now because I know we can't fit in a car.
05:40You just get a bigger car, don't you?
05:41I don't want to.
05:43Yeah.
05:44I'd had a dream the other night that I was pregnant.
05:45Should we go and get a pregnancy test?
05:46Could you imagine?
05:48Should we go and get one?
05:49So far.
05:49Are you late?
05:51Not yet, no.
05:51Oh, okay.
05:52I'm not doing one for another two weeks, but anyway.
05:55What a lovely, lovely vibe going in that house.
05:59Although it was like really beautiful.
06:02It felt homely.
06:02She wasn't bothered about me.
06:04Going around having a look at anything.
06:06She was like really open.
06:08These bees, it's kind of ruining the moment.
06:11These wasps need to go.
06:12Let's lose these.
06:14I mean, they're already dead.
06:15Rest in peace.
06:16There's another one.
06:17Oh.
06:18Oh, my God.
06:19There's wasps everywhere.
06:20I mean, all that money.
06:22She needs a bit of rage, you know what I mean?
06:24And she needs to clean the windows as well.
06:26Let's not show that.
06:28Leave it like that.
06:29I mean, I'll be honest with you.
06:30I quite like Perry's world.
06:31But I think I am going to be moving in shortly.
06:34Welcome to Clutter on Clutter on Clutter.
06:39You don't put your cars in here, then?
06:41No.
06:42Look at all this you've just put in here.
06:45Look, that's a good one, that is.
06:46That's nice, isn't it?
06:47Family roast.
06:48I've got a lot of chopping boards.
06:50Have you?
06:50I've got a chopping board addiction.
06:52I'm obsession with...
06:52I've got like ten in the house.
06:54I'll have that one if you don't want it.
06:56What are these?
06:57Your outfits?
06:58Yeah.
06:59What's that?
07:00Do you reckon I can get this done?
07:01Or do you reckon something's going to fall on it?
07:02Just be careful there.
07:04Oh!
07:06There we go.
07:07I think we've got it.
07:08Oh, we actually smashed that to be fair.
07:09Oh, we did very well.
07:10Well done, us.
07:11Honestly, this was my favourite thing
07:15that I ever wore in Little Mix, ever.
07:17Really?
07:17I felt like a Victoria's Secret model.
07:19Sorry, I'm unrapping.
07:20Surely they have.
07:21I'm unrapping like that.
07:23Oh, that is it.
07:23That's it.
07:24That's it.
07:24Oh, I remember this.
07:26Does it go like that?
07:26So iconic.
07:28Oh, my God, that's so good.
07:31No more sad songs, no more sad songs, no more.
07:36Sick.
07:36So cool.
07:38When you think back,
07:39do you think you were really young
07:40or do you think,
07:41you know what, I had it all together?
07:42No, I was a baby.
07:43Really?
07:44Yeah.
07:45I never really left home
07:46and then I had to move to London
07:48and live out my dream at the age of, like, 17.
07:50That's wild to me now.
07:51Like, I reflect a lot on the band.
07:54Do you ever reflect on the fact that Jessie left
07:56and how you feel about that?
07:58We do think, like, we talk about it a lot,
08:01but I think in the moment,
08:03we did everything we could,
08:05so something's just happened.
08:06It is really sad.
08:07Do you not speak to her anymore?
08:08No, we don't speak anymore, no.
08:10We haven't spoke since she left.
08:12Would you like to still speak to her or not?
08:14I wrote a song about it.
08:16Every time I listen to it, I cry.
08:17I think losing a friend
08:19in that same dynamic or in that same world
08:21is just as bad, if not worse.
08:23It's like a love story because you loved her.
08:25Yeah, absolutely.
08:26And then they're gone.
08:27And it's like, ugh!
08:28They've gone on this huge journey
08:29and then for Jessie not to be in her life anymore,
08:33I think it was massive
08:34and I think it still affects her now.
08:36You can see the pain when she talks about it
08:38and I think she would like to rekindle that relationship again.
08:42I hope they do see eye to eye again.
08:47Now I've had the full tour,
08:49it's time for me to meet the driving force
08:51behind Peri's career, her mum, Debs.
08:53What was Peri like as a baby?
08:56Absolutely a joy.
08:58You know, never cried.
08:59You'd feed her, put her down and she was fine.
09:01As long as she could see me...
09:03I'm like that now.
09:03..she would be fine.
09:06Feed me, put me down.
09:07Put me on my shesh launch.
09:08That's literally me.
09:09I'm like it now.
09:10Whose idea was it that she did X Factor?
09:13Mine.
09:14Really?
09:14Yes.
09:15Are you one of them pushy mums?
09:16No.
09:16Yeah, she was.
09:17She was.
09:18No, she was.
09:19Do you know, it came on the TV,
09:21are you ready for the next X Factor audition?
09:23And I thought, yes, I am.
09:24Did you feel confident to do that, Peri?
09:26No.
09:27You didn't want to do X Factor?
09:28No, I hated it.
09:29She came into my room early in the hours of the morning,
09:31dragged me out of it.
09:31Four o'clock.
09:33And I was like, ma'am, please, I really don't want to go.
09:35Like, I'm embarrassed and I know that you think I'm good.
09:37Why are you embarrassed?
09:38My mum's gonna say I'm good.
09:39Do you know what I mean?
09:40It was one of them.
09:41Because you didn't think you were good?
09:42No.
09:43So many people are good singers.
09:45You don't know.
09:45Their relationship reminds me of mine and my mum's
09:48because my mum was very, a little bit pushy,
09:51but in a good way.
09:52And I see that from Debbie as well.
09:54Let's have a look at some pictures then.
09:56Oh, go on then.
09:56So what was...
09:57When did you know that she had...
09:58What's that?
09:59It was just like a little nappy there.
10:01Oh, gosh, she was small, weren't she?
10:03When she was born.
10:04Oh.
10:04Look at the size of her.
10:06She was tiny.
10:07Peri was born with a rare medical condition,
10:10which meant she was unable to eat solid food
10:12and spent a lot of her childhood in hospital.
10:16And I'm curious to see how that impacted them both.
10:19I couldn't believe that you've been through so many, like,
10:21medical issues with regards to your throat.
10:24Mm.
10:24Like, how did it present itself?
10:25Was she not eating?
10:27Erm, she couldn't eat.
10:28When she was a baby?
10:29And everything she ate, she vomited back out.
10:31Oh, my God.
10:32And then she would choke on everything.
10:34At this sort of age?
10:36Erm, yes.
10:37Right from that...
10:38Right from the day she was born,
10:39she'd vomit everything up.
10:41And it just went on and on.
10:42And then I got to a stage where she was still 7, 8-year-old
10:45and I was blending all of her food.
10:47I'd seen doctor after doctor after doctor
10:49and they all said that, you know,
10:51it was me that had the problem.
10:52And I was like, no, it's not me.
10:54Are you actually junkies?
10:55Yeah, me daughter.
10:55Because they couldn't find anything wrong with me.
10:57That's right.
10:59Now, I remember the first time I had a stretch,
11:01like, the first time I had my esophagus stretched,
11:03being able to eat something and swallow it
11:05was so bizarre to me.
11:06Really?
11:07Without it getting stuck.
11:08It was wild.
11:09That's a lot to deal with throughout...
11:11Literally throughout your whole life.
11:13I think that's why I love food so much now.
11:16Wow.
11:16She's been going through operations all her life,
11:20on her throat, on her stomach.
11:22She's had a lot going on.
11:24Do you think maybe that's where all the anxiety comes from?
11:26Maybe.
11:27Like, I've developed panic disorder.
11:29What's that?
11:30So it's the fear of having a panic attack.
11:32Because I, like, a few years ago,
11:34started suffering from severe panic attacks,
11:37I then developed, like, a fear of having one again.
11:40So I was like, if I'm on my own
11:42and I have a panic attack, I might die.
11:44Mm-hm.
11:44And nobody will be here to help.
11:46So that's why I'm never on my own.
11:48And you're never here on your own?
11:49No, never.
11:50Never.
11:51I'm always with somebody.
11:53Because I just...
11:53I don't like the feeling of feeling like I'm going to die.
11:56What's a little bit sad is that
11:58Perrie can't ever be on her own.
12:00She doesn't want to be alone.
12:01She's got that anxiety.
12:09Next, we're going back to where it all began for Perrie,
12:12a hometown of South Shields.
12:15I've got one bum, have you?
12:17It's nice, isn't it?
12:18It's lovely.
12:19Did you turn that on?
12:19Yeah.
12:20Oh, I like it.
12:21It's toasty.
12:21Oh, that's right.
12:23Salute the magpie.
12:24Are you quite superstitious like that?
12:25Yeah.
12:26Are you?
12:26Yeah.
12:27Do you know what?
12:28It feels so weird being here again.
12:30Oh, there's two magpies.
12:31Woo-hoo!
12:32One for Sara, two for Joe!
12:33Well done.
12:34Yeah, no, it feels weird, like, being back.
12:37Really?
12:37Like, driving around.
12:38Good weird?
12:39Yeah, good weird.
12:40But, like, also weird weird.
12:42I do love it here.
12:48We're starting our tour by checking out
12:50one of Perrie's childhood homes.
12:53So, where was your house, then, up there, up the top?
12:55That one.
12:56Which one?
12:56That one on the corner.
12:57This one here.
12:58The one right next to the field.
12:59This is your house, here.
13:01So, how does it make you feel when you see your old house?
13:04It feels like I can remember so much in there.
13:07Like, so much happened.
13:08Oh, the woman living there, she's probably thinking,
13:10who the hell's that?
13:11This is Perrie.
13:12She used to live here, so we're just reminiscing.
13:17Oh, yeah?
13:17Can we have a look?
13:18Yeah.
13:19Are you sure?
13:20Come on, let's go and have a look.
13:21You can show me your room.
13:21Oh, I feel so bad with you.
13:23Got a new baby.
13:25A little bit old, yeah.
13:26How nice is this?
13:28Thank you so much.
13:29Is that your little baby?
13:30What's her name?
13:31Dollyann.
13:32Is this a bit weird having Perrie in your house?
13:34And Alison.
13:35I know, I know.
13:36Like, when the band got put together, and we had to, like, move in together, we all moved
13:41into here.
13:41So, all the girls have been in here?
13:43Yeah, we all used to sleep here.
13:44Two of us in that bedroom, two of us in that bedroom.
13:47This was my room.
13:48Oh, it's a baby room now.
13:51Oh, my gosh.
13:52Where was your bed?
13:53My bed was here at one point, and then I had, like, a dresser and my TV on the wall, and
13:57this was where I put all my stickers.
13:59It feels really small.
14:00Does it?
14:01Yeah.
14:02Is it weird being back in here?
14:03It's really weird.
14:05And that was your view?
14:06And this was my view, yeah.
14:08I used to sing constantly in the neighbour next door.
14:11He'd be like, just going on X Factor, man.
14:14And I'd be like, oh, sorry, can you hear me?
14:16He's like, why, I can't hear you sneeze.
14:18He was like, you're singing at the top of your lungs.
14:20I think there's definitely a massive contrast from where she's coming from now to where she
14:25grew up.
14:26But I'll be honest with you, I don't think she's changed that much.
14:28That was well nice.
14:29I hope we weren't too...
14:31Intrusive.
14:31No, we only stayed two minutes.
14:33I think they enjoyed it.
14:34Yeah.
14:34It was fun, though.
14:35Yeah.
14:36She literally just left the car in the middle of the street.
14:41Oh, that was so good.
14:43Like the corners of my mind.
14:45We're having such a lovely day.
14:46Aren't we?
14:47And the weather's actually quite nice for once.
14:49Yeah.
14:50You don't really see that up north.
14:53Ooh, this is Ocean Road.
14:55This is where all the best takeaways are.
14:58Oh, I'm in heaven already.
14:59Like, Ocean Road is where it's at.
15:01While Peri might seem like she has the perfect life now, she's been really open about her
15:07crippling anxiety and panic attacks.
15:09And over dinner, I was keen to find out more.
15:12When did this anxiety start for you?
15:15Me and the girls went to Vegas and I took something.
15:22Not anything bad.
15:25It was literally just an over-the-counter shot.
15:29And it was, like, five times the amount of caffeine and it'll give you energy boost.
15:33Like, I honestly thought I was having a heart attack from whatever was in there.
15:37And then I ended up pacing around my room, like, having panic attacks.
15:41Ended up in hospital.
15:42They put me on a drip.
15:43And then they tried to, like, get out of my system because my heart rate was so high.
15:48It was so scary.
15:49And then when I flew home, after that incident, I just kept having them, like, again and again.
15:55Like, they just kept coming back.
15:56So, it's like that triggered it off.
15:58Yeah, so that was the trigger.
16:00So, even though through life I've probably been through so much stuff, I've obviously just been dealing with it.
16:04And, like, maybe he's burying it a lot.
16:06And then that was just, like, it just erupted.
16:08And from that point on, my anxiety was, like, through the roof.
16:12I felt so isolated and confused.
16:16And then it got to the point where I was like,
16:17Mum, I think I need help.
16:19Something's happening to me.
16:21It was really bad.
16:22And is there, like, a warning?
16:23So, like, if you was going to have a panic attack and I'm with you.
16:26Yeah.
16:26Is there a warning that I would know?
16:28My arms go limp.
16:29My legs go limp.
16:31And then my eyesight starts to go.
16:33And then I can't see anything.
16:35And then my heart starts racing.
16:37And then I just can't breathe.
16:38And I just feel like I'm going to die.
16:40So, I start freaking out.
16:41Harry, this is frightening.
16:42It's so scary.
16:44So, then I become a bit of a recluse.
16:46I've got, like, agoraphobia for a little while.
16:49In this period of time, we were rehearsing for a little mix tour.
16:52And it was one of our biggest tours we'd had.
16:54But I couldn't eat.
16:56I could barely sleep.
16:57Have you ever had one on stage?
16:58Never.
16:59Never.
16:59That's where I feel the safest.
17:00You're in your happy place.
17:01And you do it so well.
17:03You would never know.
17:04Like, when you meet you.
17:06Like, you just see.
17:06I think I hide it quite well.
17:08And also, I never want Axel to see it either.
17:10No.
17:11I think this whole experience that she has been through has been, like, the university of showbiz.
17:17Do you know what I mean?
17:18Like, there's no school.
17:19There's no college that teaches you to be famous.
17:22So, you kind of have to learn on the job.
17:25Thank you so much for sharing.
17:26Because, you know, there's people out there who are going through it as well.
17:29And probably don't recognise that they're going through it.
17:32And hear your story.
17:33And it just helps so many people, you talking about it.
17:37Thank you, babe.
17:39You can tell that family is so important to her.
17:42What people don't actually see is they're there all the time.
17:46I would love for her to get to a stage where she can be on her own.
17:50And she doesn't need to rely on everybody else.
17:53Enjoying the fish?
17:54This is stunning.
17:57It's the best.
17:58It's unbelievable.
18:00It's good.
18:01I eat this all day long.
18:08After all that fish and chips, we took a stroll to walk it all off and reminisce about Perry's teenage years.
18:16Do you know what?
18:17It's like a romantic walk on the beach.
18:20It's lovely, isn't it?
18:21This is so beautiful.
18:22And you used to come here every day?
18:23Yeah, I used to come here all the time as a kid.
18:25Really?
18:25I'm not surprised.
18:26What did you get up to when you come on the beach?
18:28Was you like, sunbathing?
18:29Oh, all kinds.
18:30All kinds.
18:31What didn't I get up to, eh?
18:32No, I'm joking.
18:32Really?
18:33No.
18:33Me and my friends pulled in all nighter once on this beach.
18:36What, you slept on the beach?
18:37We tried to.
18:38And then we were freezing.
18:39Oh, I bet you was.
18:40And we were like, we are not prepared.
18:41What were we thinking?
18:43So then we decided to walk back to my house.
18:44I'm surprised Debbie didn't come find you.
18:47No, she was on holiday.
18:50So I was bleeding.
18:51Oh, Dev's mine, normally.
18:52Yeah.
18:53Well, I had my first kiss here when I was like 15 years old.
18:55Was it a good kiss?
18:56You know when you have a beautiful kiss?
18:57It was actually.
18:58It was really nice.
18:59Open mouth, tongue.
18:59Yeah, it was the first like tongue kiss.
19:01Love it.
19:02What was his name?
19:03Connor.
19:04Hi, Connor.
19:05If you're watching.
19:07Now that Perry had really opened up to me,
19:09I had something to share with her too.
19:11My own musical talents.
19:13Babe, I've got a song.
19:14Have you?
19:15You might go, oh, Alison, it's a bit 80s.
19:18Just like this.
19:18When your body's lying next to mine,
19:22This kind of feeling only comes up once in a lifetime.
19:25Chorus.
19:26Can you feel it?
19:27Oh, tell me, can you feel it?
19:29Oh, can you feel it?
19:31Can you feel it?
19:34I really like that.
19:35Why don't you get that?
19:36You should get in with someone and do it in a studio.
19:40I think she liked it.
19:41And I think she wants to release it with me.
19:43But, you know, I'm going to think about it because I'm sure there's loads of other people knocking on my door.
19:47Get back.
19:48No, no, I'm not selling the song yet.
19:50Can you feel it?
19:51Oh, tell me, can you feel it?
19:53Can you feel it?
19:55Can you feel it?
20:00While I consider my options, I'm about to meet one of Perry's biggest inspirations, her rock star dad, Alex.
20:07Although he and Perry's mum split when she was young, they've always been super close.
20:12And I can't wait to see him on stage.
20:15Oh, my God, you've done it, it's amazing.
20:32Wow.
20:49What a voice.
20:51And I ain't talking about Perry, I'm talking about Alex.
20:54Tell me something, when did you know that she had something special?
20:57I just remember, like, just listening to her singing, you know, in the bedroom.
21:01It must have been absolutely incredible when she, like, did the X Factor and she, you saw her in that moment.
21:07My heart was beating out of my chest, I would.
21:09What was it like having a famous daughter, is it weird?
21:11When I see her on television and stuff.
21:13She's a star.
21:14It's just, yeah, it's weird, really weird, you know.
21:16I'm so glad you've come here, I knew you'd love it.
21:18Oh, my God, are you going to sing any more?
21:20What are you going to do next?
21:21I don't know, I didn't fancy getting up.
21:22What are you going to sing?
21:23Sweetie out of my mind.
21:24You start and I'll join in with a chorus.
21:25I'm ready.
21:26You don't give me one day of rest, is she?
21:27That's it.
21:29Go on, get up there.
21:31Oh!
21:33Oh!
21:34Oh!
21:35Oh!
21:36Oh!
21:37She's not smart, but it seems to me, remind me of childhood.
21:43Every reason, and everything was as fresh as it dried through the sky.
21:52Now we're there when I see a thing, to me, to me, to me, to me, to me, to me, to me, to me, to me, to me, to me, to me, to me, to me, to me, to me, to me, to me, to me, to me, to me, to me, to me, to me.
21:56A singing sweet child of mine with a dad, it was just beautiful.
22:00Oh!
22:01Oh!
22:02Oh!
22:03Sweet child of mine!
22:05Do you know what?
22:06I feel like that was absolute therapy to our parents.
22:10Obviously, I had to get involved.
22:15Do you know what I mean?
22:16Do you know what I mean?
22:17Where do we go?
22:23In that very moment, I got who Peri Edwards was.
22:27I understood why she was born to do that, because it's all she's ever known.
22:33Alex Edwards and Peri Edwards!
22:37As the day draws to a close, we're visiting a special place with huge importance to Peri, the RVI Hospital in Newcastle.
22:54It was here that she was treated as a child by surgeon Mrs Lawson, undergoing multiple procedures on her esophagus to allow her to eat solid food.
23:03I was in and out of this hospital, basically, from the age of, like, six, seven to 15, I guess?
23:10No!
23:11Yeah.
23:12So, it started out, like, once every two or three weeks, I would get an operation.
23:17Oh, my gosh!
23:18So I could eat.
23:19Honestly, I love this hospital.
23:20I have, like, the happiest memories.
23:22I feel like kids are just so...
23:25What's the word?
23:26Resilient.
23:27Yeah!
23:28I used to go to all the Christmas parties.
23:29I got to meet Santa there.
23:31Oh, wow.
23:32I did homeschooling there for a little bit.
23:34So you had a tutor as well?
23:36Yeah, that was when I had my big surgery.
23:38I'm so grateful to this hospital, though.
23:40I basically owe them my life.
23:42What's it feel like walking through here?
23:53Is it weird?
23:54Yeah, it is.
23:55I feel like...
23:56While I'm here, shall I get a stretch?
23:59So, most people would, like, dread coming to the hospital?
24:02Mm-hm.
24:03Which I get. It's scary.
24:04Yeah, totally.
24:05Yeah.
24:06You loved it.
24:07Yeah, I think I spent so much time here, that's why.
24:10I used to just look forward to coming.
24:12Have you got any scars from the surgery?
24:14Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
24:15But the big surgery that I had,
24:17obviously I've got a massive scar.
24:19Oh, my God, that's huge.
24:20I know.
24:21She did a very good job, my surgeon, actually.
24:23So, this is it?
24:24This is it.
24:25Ward 9?
24:26Ward 9.
24:27This is your ward?
24:28This is my ward.
24:29So, how's it felt coming back here, then?
24:31It's nice.
24:32Your mum is incredible, though, isn't she?
24:34Yeah, she's the best.
24:35I mean, literally, she would bring you to the hospital,
24:38not have a bed to sleep in.
24:39No.
24:40Did she have money for the parking?
24:41No.
24:42I don't know how she did it.
24:43Like, honestly, I think back to it now,
24:45and I think, like, now being a mum and seeing it
24:47from a different kind of view, like, I'm like,
24:50how did she do that?
24:52When I was getting looked after, I was a little girl,
24:54and I haven't seen these people for years,
24:56but I literally think about them every day.
24:58Do you?
24:59All the time.
25:00Me and my mum always talk about Miss Lawson,
25:02the nurses.
25:03Like, if it wasn't for them, I wouldn't be here.
25:06I've got a surprise for you.
25:07What is it?
25:08Mrs Lawson's here.
25:10No, she's not.
25:11She retired ages ago.
25:12Yeah, she is.
25:13Didn't she?
25:14She's here.
25:15What do you mean?
25:16Yeah.
25:17What do you mean?
25:19Hiya, Perry.
25:23Oh, hello.
25:24Oh, hello.
25:26Oh, my goodness.
25:27Oh, my sneakies.
25:28Sorry, I feel really emotional.
25:30Oh, my gosh.
25:31We are so sneaky.
25:32They're actually hiding outside.
25:34Oh, my gosh.
25:35You look great.
25:36You look exactly the same.
25:38Oh, you've aged like a fine wine.
25:40Oh, my gosh.
25:42You look so sweet.
25:43Where's your mum?
25:44She's like, come and sit down.
25:45Come and say hello.
25:46Hello.
25:47Hello.
25:48Oh, my God.
25:49That's so good to see you.
25:50Good to see you.
25:51Sorry.
25:52Now we'll all have to go and have a hockey break.
25:55Oh, my God.
25:56It's so good to see you.
25:57How are you?
25:58Hello, Mrs Lawson.
25:59Lovely to meet you.
26:00Oh, my God.
26:01This is Alison.
26:02Sorry.
26:03Hello.
26:04Nice to meet you.
26:05Oh, this is...
26:06Lawson's come to see us.
26:07I know.
26:08Oh, gosh.
26:09Why do you think you're so emotional?
26:10I think just because I haven't seen you for years,
26:13I think I'm just so grateful for you.
26:15Like, obviously, me and my mum, it's just...
26:18It was really hard.
26:20Oh, Mrs Lawson.
26:21And we saw a lot of each other, didn't we?
26:23We did.
26:24Far too much of each other.
26:25Far too much of each other.
26:26That's the thing, like, if it wasn't for you,
26:28I obviously don't think I would be here.
26:30Because I think, obviously, before I met you,
26:32like, nobody knew what was wrong with me.
26:34Because they thought it was psychological, didn't they?
26:37Yeah.
26:38And your mum always knew it wasn't psychological.
26:39Yeah, and they're like, it was a wild ride,
26:41but it was the best experience ever getting to meet you
26:43and being looked after by you.
26:45So, yeah.
26:46Mrs Lawson, I can't believe she went through that amount of time
26:49and it being misdiagnosed.
26:51The important thing was Perry knew she was hungry,
26:53because she didn't used to eat a whole family trifle.
26:56Yeah, a whole family trifle.
26:57How do you remember that?
26:59Because I used that with other kids.
27:02When they said, oh, I'm hungry and I can't get it,
27:04I said, whole family trifle.
27:05Like a family size.
27:06And you could swap the whole thing out.
27:07Because if you think about it,
27:08it's soft jelly cream and biscuits that have gone soft.
27:11And it just goes down.
27:12And it just goes down a treat.
27:13Because she needed the calories because she was hungry.
27:15Yeah.
27:16But she couldn't take anything that you had to swallow lumps, you see.
27:19I must have first met you in, like, the November, December.
27:23It was just before Christmas.
27:24Because I said, I think we could just squeeze her in before Christmas
27:28and then she could have a Christmas dinner.
27:30And your mum said, well, she's never had one yet.
27:33So she's not...
27:34Oh, dear, I'm made her cry.
27:36You'd never had one, had you?
27:37That's probably why I love Christmas dinner.
27:39That is so funny.
27:43Christmas dinner's like my favourite thing.
27:46Mrs Lawson, thank you so much for everything you've done.
27:47No, it's been lovely.
27:48It's so nice to see you.
27:49It's lovely to see you.
27:50That woman means so much to her.
27:52That woman changed her life.
27:54Saved her life.
27:56For everything, honestly.
27:57It's been a pleasure.
27:58That was one of the most beautiful, emotional reunions I've ever seen.
28:03And to be part of that and witness that was just incredible.
28:06But I can't help thinking about the family trifle now.
28:09I feel like I need to go and get one.
28:12I mean, they're going to be here for another half an hour.
28:14I reckon I could smash two in that time.
28:16Thank you for everything you do, girls.
28:20We appreciate you.
28:21I didn't realise this weekend was going to be so emotional.
28:24I feel like we've got a bit of closure today.
28:27It's incredible how open and honest she's been.
28:31I've never known anyone, especially a celebrity, as intimately as I know Perry.
28:37I know her inside out.
28:39Everything that she's gone through, ultimately, she's got her feet on the ground.
28:44Yes, she's a pop star, but she's a normal pop star.
28:48I feel like we probably could be really good friends.
28:51I've seen everything.
28:53I'll see you next week.
29:11What is wrong you?
29:14What is wrong you?
29:15What's up, what's up, what's up to me?
29:18All right, I'll tell you what's right.
