00:01From the land of the rising sun, 100 determined and sometimes foolish athletes are prepared to battle for the title of Ninja Warrior.
00:14They compete through four stages of an obstacle course designed by fiends.
00:19Success means glory. Failure means humiliation. There is no in between.
00:25Very few prosper, most fail. So let's head to Mount Midoriama to see who will be the next to take the title of Ninja Warrior.
00:37Welcome back to the second Ninja Warrior tournament. Last time we saw the first tournament ever and despite 100 determined competitors taking on the course, no one was able to beat it.
00:48For this second tournament, the course has been moved outdoors to the base of Mount Midoriama in Japan, where 100 new challengers have assembled to take on the gauntlet of obstacles that require all-round physical ability.
01:00To either consider beating the course, they must first get through Stage 1, where contestants will have just 60 seconds to beat six obstacles, demanding strength, pace and balance.
01:10Those able to complete Stage 1 move into Stage 2, where they must negotiate a maze of moving panels, swinging hammers and heavy walls.
01:18Anyone skilled enough moves into Stage 3, where strength takes over from speed, a metallic jungle of steel strength sapping traps.
01:26Anyone who survives that will have earned the right to take on the final stage, where 30 seconds and 15 meters of rope stands between them and total victory.
01:35Will anybody be able to beat the course and achieve the ultimate goal this time?
01:39Let's head to Mount Midoriama, where the competition is about to begin.
01:44So here we are, the base of Mount Midoriama for the start of the second Ninja Warrior tournament.
01:50Our first contender is Ichiro Atarashi. He's 27 years old, he's a fitness instructor, and he's got 60 seconds to conquer six obstacles.
01:57First up the barrel climb, which will roll you back down to earth if you're not quick, just like that.
02:02Ooh, Senpa!
02:05This is Kentaro Ito, he's 21 years old, he's a gas safety officer.
02:10First up the barrel climb, and his feet have gone straight away, and he's straight into the water.
02:15This is Omero Tetsuji, he's 21 years old, and he leaps up the barrel climb onto the spinning log, and he's got a spin, and it goes like that, and he's just a bit managed to hold himself on.
02:25And he's made it over onto the rapid descent. Five barrels leap across the muddy pond, not like that.
02:30Tetsuji's feet touch the water as he leaps across the rapid descent, which in this competition is immediate disqualification.
02:37Next up is 16 year old university student Ayano Komiya. He's a track and field athlete.
02:46He's actually going to bounce away across this first stage onto the barrel climb where the feet just bounce off and into the water. Unlucky.
02:52Next up is Nahiro Hoshikawa. He's 23 years old, he's a professional wrestler. Is he going to be able to grapple with the course today?
03:03First up the barrel climb, he's got six obstacles to conquer, 60 seconds to do it, and he's onto the spinning log.
03:08He's going to try and walk over it, I don't like that. No, he slides over it instead, and pulls himself over the other side, and he's onto the rapid descent.
03:15Five barrels they'll bring you closer to Earth, the more pressure you put on them. Just like that! Oh...
03:22Hoshikawa! That is a small ash and a half! It's a body slam!
03:28Hoshikawa fell backwards into the water from his jump off the rapid descent, leading to an almighty splash.
03:36This is Takichiro Kyoto, his 23 year old engineer, onto the barrel climb and he's straight in! That was short lived!
03:45our next contender is takuyu ueda he is 34 years old an internet service provider by day and a
03:52free climber by night totally fair on the first stage he's up and over the barrel climb with no
03:56issues onto the spinning log one two three four runs across here that was really light on his
04:01feet actually the rapid descent is going to leap from the top and lands on the green matting which
04:05is all good onto the hill climb 50 degree angle get yourself up there there you go ueda you're
04:10nearly there two obstacles to go next up the balance bridge hops over that and down to the
04:16bottom of the mountain the mountain climb the bottom half drags you closer to terra firma the top half
04:20nice and stable this should be nice and easy for him for what he does in his spare time and ueda is
04:25making it look easy he is demolishing this first stage and takuyu ueda is our first competitor
04:31who makes it into stage two good job ueda used his free climbing ability to hop over the course with
04:40relative ease hitting that red button at the end i think he's rather happy with that
04:46still to come will this masked tiger be able to tame the first stage and make it through to stage two
04:53and will the women be able to put the men to shame and do what only one person has done so far
04:59welcome back to the second ninja warrior tournament 100 athletes have assembled at
05:10mount midori armor to take on the most challenging obstacle course so far most have failed however
05:17takuyu ueda managed to complete the first stage with 23 seconds left will anybody else be able to manage
05:23it today is it a bird is it a plane no it's tomihiro tatsukawa 27 year old instrument salesman
05:33will he be able to conquer the first stage six obstacles 60 seconds onto the barrel climb and no
05:38he's strained to the drink it must be his kryptonite this is 24 year old gymnast naoki ikatani very popular
05:47figure in japan he'll be able to bounce and leap his way across the first stage first up the barrel
05:52climb one and two and he's up with relative ease onto the spinning log slides across he's got no grip
05:57but no he's in the drink oh ikatani ikatani tried to slide his way across the spinning log however
06:04didn't have a solid enough grip leading to him taking a swan dive
06:08this is an interesting character this is tiger mask he's a pro wrestler also known as yoshihiro yamazaki
06:1627 years old onto the barrel climb and oh no oh that was horrendous well this guy's got some fancy
06:24tricks hasn't he big with a set of nunchucks this is toyohisa ijima he is 22 years old he is part of
06:32the japanese defense force what will he be able to do on the course will be able to defend his army
06:40outfit and keep it dry six obstacles 60 seconds and he starts off with the barrel climb a runner jump
06:46a leap oh no he's straight in he couldn't even get his feet sorted oh i worry about japan's defense
06:54that was awful next up we go from a japanese defense to the u.s defense this is u.s navy soldier
07:04christopher fields 23 years old smiling face as he leaps onto the barrel climb and his face planted
07:11the barrel and no he's straight in the drink oh that was poor now can the women do any better than
07:19the men this is che tanabi she's 24 years old she's a stunt woman and she goes for the barrel
07:25climb leaping up that scrambling up relative ease onto the spinning log and she's gonna try and walk
07:31across it fills it with her feet one two three four five six oh it's time to go oh she's just about
07:36made it oh tanabi nearly took a fall onto the rapid descent she's gonna take a leap and a roll at the
07:43end that's a stunt woman inside of her that's brilliant onto the hill climb it's a 50 degree angle
07:48she's scrambling up it using the gap at the side to help herself up nearly trips at the top but
07:52she's over onto the balance bridge hops over the obstacle in the middle and makes it across and leaps
07:59down to the mountain climb she's got 23 seconds to make it up this wall the bottom half will drag you
08:05back down to earth the top half is nice and steady and she's just struggling to find her feet a little
08:10bit she's moving at the same pace as the wall so not really going anywhere but onto the top half
08:1410 seconds left the klaxons go in the clock's gone red come on tanabi you're nearly there climb
08:20yourself over hit the button and yes she's done it che tenabi the first woman to ever beat stage one
08:27che tenabi used all of her stunt woman's skills as she leapt her way across the first stage
08:33following che tenabi's success the barrel plume continued to roll contestants back into the water
08:43and if they conquered that the spinning log soon tossed them off despite this a series of athletes
08:51completed the course first was ken hatagawa who plays a ninja at a theme park he proved he might
08:58really be a ninja as he completed stage one then actor shane kasugi made his ninja family proud by
09:05gliding through the first stage finally olympic gymnast hikaru tanaka easily defeated the obstacles with
09:13time to spare following this string of victories will anybody else be able to beat the course and
09:18survive onto stage two next up in purple sparkles is chinese gymnast yang yang what will she be able to do
09:29against the course first up the barrel climb she leaves it oh it's a face plant and that was short lived
09:35that's gonna hurt in the morning can we get a medic over please i think she needs it
09:40it was less yang yang and more bang bang as the chinese acrobat face planted the barrel climb
09:46next on to take the first stage is mazukazu ebihara he is a 26 year old truck driver in japan
09:54first up the barrel climb he's got 60 seconds to get over the six obstacles onto the spinning log runs
10:00over that with no problem at all onto the rapid descent leaps from the top down to the ground steadies
10:05himself with his hands and onto the hill climb the 50 degree angle 15 foot tall climbs his way up there
10:10no problem at all and onto the balance bridge he's flying through this course and he flies over
10:16there with no problem at all down the log and onto the main thing climb can you get your way up there
10:21he's got 33 seconds left to do so struggling a little bit he's quite a tall person so trying to
10:26find the hand grips is proving to be a little bit difficult but he's getting there he's off the
10:29moving part and onto the top quarter which is just nice and steady make your way up and he's over
10:35hits the button no problem at all ebihara will be in stage two next up his hiroaki yoshizaki 22 years old
10:45he's a student and a gymnast there he needs gymnastics leotard and with a little bit of a split as he goes up
10:51the barrel climb and flies over the log the spinning log with no problem at all rapid descent now leaps his
10:57way down holds the landing as well onto the hill climb sprints up use his hands at the top just to get
11:03himself over and down onto the balance bridge lightweight pulls your way across no he runs
11:09across and keeps the low center of gravity but he's over and he's on to the mountain climb a little bit
11:14of strength required here from yoshizaki can you get your way up there sir climb your way up he's making
11:20it look relatively easy not really struggling gets himself onto the steady part of the climb and he's
11:26up and over hits the button with 19 seconds remaining
11:33yoshizaki used all these gymnastic skills as he leapt his way across the first stage hitting the red
11:38button with 20 seconds left this is the man we remember from tournament one this is akira amori
11:45also known as the monkey he is half of a comedy group in japan he conquered the first stage last time
11:52that made it all the way to the final and he's conquered the first two obstacles this time round
11:55onto the rapid descent leaps down no problem at all there he looks like a true athlete onto the
12:00hill climb gets himself up and over that with no issues onto the balance bridge runs his way across
12:05nearly trips on the obstacle in the middle but he's free and falls onto the ground as he goes down
12:10the log drop onto the mountain climb plenty of time to spare for the monkey as he makes his way up
12:16climbing his way up no problem at all using his monkey skills monkey by name monkey by nature and akira
12:24amori is through to stage two yet again amori showed why he's nicknamed the monkey as he swung his way
12:33across the course with relative ease proving why he's one of the favorites to earn total victory
12:42following amori's success the last few challenges took on the first stage
12:45three men were able to complete the course they were hiroyuki sato with 12 seconds to spare
12:51shigeyuki nakamura who survived the course with just under a second left and crab fisherman kazuhiko
12:57akiyama who was the final man to clear the first stage coming off as we move on to stage two where
13:08the 34 remaining challengers face new obstacles and new ways to wipe out
13:15welcome back to ninja warrior let's take a break from the action with today's ninja killer
13:22every journey starts with a step it's much easier though if those steps don't roll against you into
13:28a muddy pit the barrel climb eliminated 17 of the 66,000 in stage one
13:33welcome back to meg midori armor in japan where 100 plucky hopefuls arrived with the dream of claiming
13:41total victory we just completed stage one and out of those 100 competitors that attempted the course
13:4734 were able to complete it and earn the right to take on stage two stage two has four challenging
13:54obstacles and a 50 second harmony will any of the 34 survive the moving panels swinging hammers and heavy
14:00walls showing strength and dexterity to be able to take on stage three
14:08first up to take on the second stage is yuji suzuki a truck driver will be able to negotiate his way
14:15through the second stage he's got 50 seconds for four obstacles first up is the spoiler walk prop your
14:21body up on either side and move your feet along holding yourself up with just your hands on those
14:26perfect panels he's through the moving panel which is a tricky part and he's making pretty good time
14:32across this to be fair his foot seems okay oh no he's starting to go suzuki no no he's out he's down
14:38unlucky suzuki
14:42this is takyu ueda he is an internet service provider he's free time he likes to do a bit of free climbing
14:4934 years of age how will you fare against the second stage 50 seconds for four obstacles first
14:56up the spider walk and his feet are slipping straight away he's even steady himself he is
15:00onto the moving panel if he can make his way over that that's the trickier bit done he gets brought
15:06right the way down but he's made it through the perspex on this spider walk does seem a little bit
15:12slippery it does seem like it can hold you back a little bit if you're not careful and you haven't
15:16got enough pressure against it but he's making his way to the end of the spider walk is he gonna
15:21make it he has down the fireman's pole and he's through onto the hammer dodge five hammers all
15:26swinging from side to side time you run perfectly and you'll miss them all just like that with a
15:32little bit of a hop at the end onto the conveyor belt seven and a half miles an hour it rolls against
15:36you but he's got less than 10 seconds to go but he's made it onto the wall if three walls 66 pounds the
15:41first he's not going to make it through 88 pounds a second the gates close the times up
15:48the wader was just a little bit too slow and cautious when when tackling the second stage
15:53proved costly as he ran out of time on the wall lift
15:58this is chei tanabi 24 years old she's a stunt woman the only woman to have ever completed stage one and
16:06she's going for a bit of an unorthodox tactic for the spider walk it's it's not going to work there
16:11chei you need to put her foot on both sides i don't think she's tall enough to be able to spread
16:17across both panels no and she's dropped oh tanabi oh that's gutting that's gutting
16:27chei tanabi was challenged by her height and unfortunately couldn't make her way past the spider walk
16:36this is familiar face from the first tournament this is shingo yamamoto gas station worker always
16:43wears his uniform and has his lucky hat and my word he's showing some pace on the spider walk
16:49he is flying his way across there slowed down a little bit now as he drops himself down but he's
16:54still going he's doing really well to be fair shingo yamamoto keep on showing that pace and you'll be
16:58through to stage three no problem and he slides his way down and onto the hammer dodge this is where he fell
17:05off in the last tournament not this time though he's through and onto the conveyor belt seven and
17:10a half miles an hour and he scrambles through there with no problem the wall lift 66 pounds on the first
17:16and he slides his way under on concern if he's struggling with that one 88 pounds the second
17:20he slides his way under there the hat no your hat's gone but the clock is going he's got less than 10
17:24seconds he's under the 110 pound wall and he is through to stage three shingo yamamoto
17:30got his revenge on the second stage yamamoto showed speed and some strength as he made his way
17:37through the second stage struggling a little bit though with the wall lift
17:49this is aichi niyora he is 30 years old as a construction worker
17:54he's got a fantastic pair of parachute pants onto the spider walk and he's pressing his way along
18:00there with a good bit of speed he's past the moving panel nice small movements but quick as
18:06well which is showing good speed with 30 seconds left he's past the hardest the longest obstacle onto
18:12the hammer dodge five hammers sprints his way across there with no issue the conveyor belt and he's
18:18scrambling he's like a rat up a drain pipe and onto the wall lift 66 pounds wall up and over no problem
18:2488 pound wall up and over no problem and 110 pounds here he goes up and over and he is through with nine
18:34seconds to spare miyora made the course look like child's play as he earns his way into stage three
18:41final contender of the day is yoshihito yamamoto
18:48will be able to make his way into stage three completing stage one the fastest
18:56and he's gonna cope here he's also a truck driver
19:00there are a few of those in this tournament but he's hurrying through the spider walk with no problem at all
19:04all they're in the final fall and on to the hammer dodge five hammers he needs to be quicker than that
19:10it's caught him oh that's gonna hurt he's in the water oh unlucky yoshihito yamamoto showed too much
19:19caution when making his way through the hammer dodge but saw him dropping into the drink with a kick to the
19:24shins following yoshihito yamamoto's failure on the hammer dodge we've reached the end of today's action
19:30we watched on as 100 athletes from across japan took on the first stage and whilst most of them failed
19:3634 were able to dominate the obstacles and make it through to push the red button at the end
19:41we then saw some of the first stage survivors take on the second stage with only two reaching the end
19:46with time to spare first was petrol station worker shingo yamamoto who despite struggling with the wall lift
19:53made light work of the other obstacles flew to the end of the course surviving with six seconds left
19:58then construction worker aichi miura headed through the stage with speed and strength finishing with
20:05just under 10 seconds remaining with the rest of the stage one finalists preparing to take on stage two
20:11and yamamoto and miura preparing to take on the third stage join us next time for more crazy obstacles
20:17more wacky wipeouts and more ninja warrior
