Zwei Wasserschlangen derselben Art und im selben Alter wurden nebeneinander auf einer Straße gefunden – doch sie zeigten beeindruckend unterschiedliche Erscheinungsformen. Ein tolles Beispiel dafür, dass ein dreieckiger Kopf nicht immer auf Giftigkeit hinweist.

00:00While these two baby snakes may look very different, they are both banded water snakes.
00:05Snakes can vary in color a lot, so it's not really a good tool to use to ID them.

00:12If you look at the one on the right, it's got a flattened triangular head,
00:16whereas the banded snake on the left has a rounded head.
00:19This is just because the snake felt like it was threatened
00:21and will flatten its body and head to make itself look a little bigger or to mimic a venomous snake.
00:26What I really look for when I'm IDing snakes is any sort of patterns, bands, stripes, things like that,
00:31and also taking into account the geographic range and the habitat you're finding them in.
00:35And as always, if you don't know what it is, don't touch it.
