When I say the word technology, something like this no doubt comes to mind.
00:07
But thousands of years ago, one of these was the height of human innovation.
00:11
It was believed that Homo sapiens started using bows and arrows in Europe only around 12,000 years ago,
00:16
but new evidence suggests it was much, much earlier than that.
00:19
Experts say that evidence of bow use in Africa has been detected as far back as 70,000 years,
00:24
but never this far north that early.
00:26
However, recently arrowheads were found in a cave in southern France,
00:29
and those arrowheads were from around 54,000 years ago.
00:32
The cave has evidence of habitation by both Neanderthals and Homo sapiens.
00:36
However, the arrowheads were found in the layers of sediment specifically from when our species populated it,
00:41
which the researchers say shows that despite the two bipedal species no doubt crossing paths at some point,
00:46
Neanderthals continued to use traditional non-projectile weaponry.
00:49
The researchers even recreated the arrowheads they discovered in the cave,
00:52
in an attempt to test and see if they would be useful as other weapons to rule those out,
00:56
with one of the researchers telling AFP, quote,
00:59
We couldn't throw them at the animals any other way than with a bow,
01:02
because they were too tiny and too light to be efficient.
01:04
We had to use this kind of propulsion.
01:07
We had to use this kind of machine.
01:08
Go network building on the mountain of the sea,
01:14
independant of the sea,
01:15

01:16
We had to use it in the manger,
01:17
and then let's go watch this.
