00:00Unrelated Videos Mislead Social Media Users on the Iran-Israel Conflict
00:04As tensions between Israel and Iran escalate, social platforms are being flooded with false information.
00:14Our team has been verifying some of the video footage circulating online,
00:18and we've found an astonishing number of unrelated videos being misleadingly linked to the current events.
00:24This clip, seen almost 100,000 times, claims to show Iranians dancing and celebrating
00:30as they seek refuge from strikes inside tunnels in Tehran.
00:34Some users suggest they're celebrating Israel liberating Iran from the regime.
00:39But a simple reverse image search shows that the video was first posted by an Iranian user on Instagram
00:45in September 2023 and has nothing to do with this conflict.
00:50Similar disinformation techniques have been used in relation to what's happening in Israel.
00:54This video claims to show people fighting amongst each other while sheltering in a bunker in Tel Aviv.
01:00But this isn't on Israel.
01:01It is a fight that broke out in a court in Tbilisi, Georgia this month
01:05after a 21-year-old protester was handed a prison sentence.
01:09Neither does this video show chaos on an Israeli square due to Iranian airstrikes,
01:15as social media users have claimed.
01:17In fact, it shows a sudden evacuation of Habima Square in Tel Aviv
01:21due to a false alarm during a Memorial Day event this April.
01:25Several old videos have also resurfaced purporting to show current strikes traded between both sides.
01:31This video, seen hundreds of thousands of times online,
01:34claims to show a Tel Aviv explosion caused by an Iranian missile.
01:39But in fact, it shows an Israeli strike on Yemen from May this year.
01:44Another 22-year-old video showing an US airstrike on Iraq from 2003
01:50has been falsely shared purporting to show an Iranian attack on Israel in recent days.
