00:00So can you use Yorkshire's famous regional pride to back our brilliant
00:06businesses financially? That's the question I want to find out. My name is Chris
00:10Byrne, I'm the Yorkshire Post Business and Features Editor and we've come up with
00:14an idea that I think is really exciting and love people to participate with. Now
00:18you may have seen quite a lot in the news recently about Labour and the Tories
00:22wanting ordinary people to invest more in stocks and shares and the reason for
00:27that is potentially it's a win-win. The companies that are invested in, publicly
00:32listed companies, get more capital to spend on the activities they want to do,
00:36the expansions they want to pursue etc. The investors potentially get higher
00:40returns than they would do from an ordinary cash ISA while also having the benefit of
00:46backing businesses they like. Now the Tories have talked about British ISA, extra money
00:52going to start into UK companies and what I've been wondering is whether you could
00:58do that on the Yorkshire level. So we've got about 64 listed companies in
01:02Yorkshire, some really big names, Jet 2, Persimmon, Card Factory, those types of
01:07businesses you'll heard of. Lots of other promising businesses, lots of other big
01:11businesses you might not have heard of, all doing brilliant stuff. The idea is this, the
01:17Yorkshire ISA experiment. Over the course of the year we will track whether investing
01:23in Yorkshire listed companies will get you a better return than the wider UK
01:28FTSE and their average cash savings rate. We'd love you to take part, set up a
01:33virtual portfolio so no real money involved, tracking all 64 companies but what
01:38we want to do is get people to choose ten Yorkshire companies and see if their
01:43returns over the course of the year would be better than the rest of the market.
01:49Can Yorkshire beat the market? You'll never hear the end of it if we do.
