00:30...to receive ridiculous sentences or for the classification of crimes to be limited by an outdated legal framework. The current Penal Code enacted in 1884 no longer meets the demands of a modern society, nor does it offer victims the protection they deserve. The National Congress, which has postponed this reform for years due to a lack of will or political calculations, now has a concrete opportunity to act.
00:55The Bicameral Commission has finally begun an intensive work agenda to review more than 400 articles. Both the President of the Senate and the President of the Chamber of Deputies have expressed their support for the initiative.
01:12It is urgent to translate this support into action, because as long as these changes are not approved, the Dominican justice system will remain trapped in a system that fails to resolve issues, fails to sentence proportionally, and leaves thousands of victims defenseless.
01:29Criminal reform is not a legislative luxury. It is a national necessity. Enough of prolonging this inertia of so many decades. For Liston Diario, voiceover and translation by Danny Leone.
