00:00Since ethnic violence erupted in Manipur on May 3rd, 2023, life has drastically changed,
00:13especially for students in Churachandpur. Due to blockades and restricted movement on highways
00:21by protesters and other groups, aspirants preparing for exams like SSC, NDA, UPSC and
00:29NEET face major disruptions. With capital IMFAL just 62 km away, now inaccessible, students
00:38are forced to travel hundreds of kilometers to exam centers in Mizoram, Assam or Tripura.
00:47We travel for this giving, for appearing exam, we are facing a lot of difficulties like physically,
00:54financially and our health also degrading. So, and on average we spend around 10,000
01:03maximum in one go and it's really difficult for us to afford. So, this situation is making
01:10our future uncertain.
01:12For students from economically weaker backgrounds, the long travel through rough terrains comes
01:17at a heavy price.
01:22Before the conflict, we can go to IMFAL, capital city of Manipur, for our exam. But since the
01:27conflict started, we cannot go to IMFAL anymore. So, for going for exam, we need to go further
01:33stay like Mizoram, Assam. And for going to that place, we need to spend thousands and thousands
01:40of rupees. And this large amount of money for poor people like us, we cannot afford.
01:48The journey doesn't just take a financial toll. Students face anxiety, fatigue and lack of focus
01:55due to poor accommodation, unfamiliar environments and stress from travel.
02:00As this conflict starts, our exam centres in Sureshanpur are taken away. We can't have
02:07an access to IMFAL exam centres again. And the nearest examination centre that we have now
02:13is at Aizol, which is several hundred kilometres from Sureshanpur. And also, because of this
02:18conflict, our examination centres are being spread out. Some are being assigned Agarthala
02:23exam centre, some are being assigned Gawati exam centre. Most of us, of course, at Aizol.
02:28And because of that, there is lots of financial stress.
02:31For candidates, travelling to other states to appear for simple exams becomes a huge financial
02:38burden. Besides, they also suffer from what we can describe as competitive disadvantage.
02:45The disadvantage of appearing for an exam in a far off city or a far off town and in an unfamiliar
02:53environment.
02:55Despite these odds, the youth of Chudachandpur remain dauntless. Their demand is simple, free
03:01and safe mobility to pursue their dreams. Until then, their future remains uncertain, not
03:09for lack of ambition, but because of barriers beyond their control.
