00:00Every country tells a story about how it began.
00:02But some stories aren't just meant to inspire.
00:05They're built to control.
00:07Ask a Tibetan why their homeland is no longer theirs.
00:10Ask a Uyghur what happened to their mosque.
00:13Ask a Hongkonger how free speech became a crime.
00:16Their answers won't match the version told in Beijing.
00:19And that's no accident.
00:21Modern China claims it was always vast.
00:23But that's not the truth.
00:25Much of its current land, Tibet, Xinjiang, Inner Mongolia, was added under empire, not unity.
00:33To control these regions, the CCP didn't just use armies.
00:36They used stories.
00:38In 2009, Tibetan monks began setting themselves on fire in protest.
00:43That same year, Uyghur anger exploded in Urumqi.
00:46Hundreds died in riots and police crackdowns.
00:49Instead of healing, the government cracked down harder.
00:51By the late 2010s, over a million Uyghurs were detained in the so-called vocational centers.
00:58Inside, they were stripped of language, religion, identity.
01:03The government's goal, erase who they were and rebuild them as obedient Chinese citizens.
01:10Now the tension hasn't vanished.
01:12It's just been silenced.
01:13With control at home secured, China turned its gaze outward, toward the sea.
01:18The South China Sea touches the Philippines, Vietnam, Malaysia.
01:23But Beijing claims nearly all of it.
01:25To enforce this claim, China skipped diplomacy and used intimidation.
01:30Airstrips, radar systems, military bases, built on reefs.
01:35In 2016, the Philippines won a legal case.
01:39China ignored it.
01:41Now Chinese ships block Filipino boats and firewater cannons.
01:44Hong Kong was promised freedoms, but dissent was crushed.
01:49Taiwan was never ruled by the CCP.
01:52But Xi says it must be taken.
01:54This isn't just about land.
01:56It's about erasing who people are.
01:59Half of China's land comes from regions with their own cultures.
02:02Their faith, language and history, all buried under one narrative.
02:07History is not just about what happened.
02:09It's about what gets remembered.
02:11If we let Beijing tell only one version of the story, entire cultures disappear in silence.
02:17From Tibet to the South China Sea, from Xinjiang to the Philippines, people are being silenced.
02:24Don't let the silence win.
02:26Tell their stories.
