00:08A bogus Euronews Romania channel

00:11has emerged on Telegram,

00:13claiming to be an official source

00:15of Euronews reporting.

00:17It fraudulently copies Euronews' branding

00:19and systematically scrapes our articles

00:22in a bid to look authentic.

00:25But the channel is not the work

00:26of Euronews or its journalists.

00:28Our colleagues in Bucharest say

00:30it's a continuation of a sustained disinformation campaign

00:34targeted at Romania

00:36during the recent presidential elections.

00:39The channel spreads false claims

00:41about the recently elected president of Romania,

00:44Nicu Shordan,

00:45and his Moldovan counterpart, Maya Sandu.

00:48This post claims the Romanian president

00:50shared his experiences in limiting

00:53the opposition press with Sandu

00:55when he visited Kisinau on Tuesday.

00:58We analysed both Dan and Sandu's statements

01:01during the Kisinau visit

01:03and found no evidence to suggest

01:06they had discussed any methods

01:08of limiting opposition-supporting media.

01:11The reporting falsely attributed to Euronews

01:14has also been mirrored in Russian state-controlled media,

01:17including Pravda.

01:19This comes amid an uptick in false videos

01:22attributed to Euronews

01:24on pro-Russian telegram channels.

01:27These initially targeted Romania,

01:29but their focus now seems to be shifting to Moldova,

01:32where parliamentary elections are set to be held in September

01:34and where President Sandu's pro-European PASS party

01:39is facing a growing challenge from opposition forces.

01:42Votes in Moldova have in the past

01:44been overshadowed by Russian interference,

01:46including alleged vote buying.

01:49Authorities there are bracing for further interference

01:52in the September ballot.
