00:23Darren and I talked about doing a ballet film eight years ago
00:27He came up and met me at school, I was 20
00:31And it sort of took this long to gestate and get to where it is
00:36There were all these layers sort of building up to shooting

00:47The script was really interesting and it sort of parallels to the Swan Lake stories

01:02She's dedicated and obsessed and hardworking
01:05But it's not letting her be free enough or sensual enough
01:09It's all so about letting go
01:11The thing about being an artist is being unique
01:14And having your own special voice
01:17And she really starts seeing herself everywhere
01:20And her identity sort of bleeds out
01:32Over the years I sort of kept up with dance classes here and there
01:36And then six months ago I started serious ballet training
01:41It was definitely challenging beyond the technique
01:44Which was really really challenging obviously
01:47You know I really was lucky that Mary Helen Bowers
01:51Who trained me was really really attentive to making sure
01:54I was always warmed up properly
01:57And that we did all these exercises like
01:59That I would never have thought of
02:01You don't see all of the work that goes into the smallest of gestures
02:05So that was really interesting
02:07And to see how they direct you through it
02:10I mean it's all
02:11It is a lot of acting
02:13Which is
02:14It was helpful
02:15Because that was the part that I was like
02:17Oh I've at least done this before
02:19Well I think Natalie had this really hard job
02:26That not only did she have to dance
02:29And be convincing as a ballet dancer
02:32But she also had to you know act the scenes
02:35That were happening while she was dancing
02:37And there was a lot of emotional choices she had to make
02:43It's amazing after sort of letting it develop for so long
02:47To still find new things after like eight years working on it
02:51It was pretty pretty cool
