00:00For Port Adelaide bakery owner Phillip Donnelly,
00:05AUKUS brought hope for more customers from the nearby shipyards.
00:09Now he's unsure that'll be the case.
00:12It's pretty concerning whenever something puts a big question mark
00:15on any sort of investment into an area, especially that I've invested in.
00:19While some locals have doubts about the US government's review
00:23of the AUKUS security pact, others say it didn't come as a shock.

00:29We kind of expected it.
00:30We saw that that happened in the UK when Keir Starmer got in.
00:34AUKUS is expected to create thousands of jobs at Osborne,
00:37boosting the local population and economy.
00:40Despite the review, politicians remain confident
00:43nuclear-powered submarines will be built in Adelaide.

01:05SA is likely to start building SSN AUKUS submarines from the 2030s.
01:11Already the Federal and South Australian governments have invested hundreds of millions of dollars
01:16on a new training academy here at Osborne, as well as university places to build a submarine workforce.
01:22Local defence companies have also started to enter the US supply chain for the construction of Virginia-class submarines.
01:29We are seeing a bigger appetite for companies to not move their businesses away from South Australia
01:37but to set up a US base.
01:39Setting up stronger ties between South Australia and the US,
01:42despite Donald Trump's America First agenda.
01:59We will do much higher education in the US tax year.
02:02You can't pay attention to the US tax year,
02:03but the US tax year can be on the US tax year on the US tax year...
