00:00Go ahead, sure.
00:02Thanks, Carolyn.
00:03One foreign question for you and one domestic.
00:05Foreign, the President, of course, has said he would
00:08relief, he would lift sanctions on Syria.
00:11Is there an executive order coming along soon to go do that?
00:15And is the President planning to try to get involved in any
00:19kind of a peace agreement between Israel and Syria that
00:23would disengage those two?
00:26Ms. To the best of my knowledge, the Treasury Department
00:28took action after the President made that announcement in
00:31Saudi Arabia.
00:32The Press.
00:33And then on the domestic side, you were just asked about the
00:36First Amendment rights issues.
00:38In the President's comments yesterday, though,
00:41he just said protesters would be strongly dealt with.
00:46In your list before, you referred to insurrectionists,
00:49rioters, and protesters together.
00:52Obviously, they're quite different from your earlier answer.
00:55I'm struck by the fact that the President has not at any
00:58point said the most important thing here is to protect the
01:01First Amendment rights of peaceful protesters.
01:04So I'm wondering where in his hierarchy of interests does he
01:07place that?
01:08Is the First Amendment protection the most important?
01:11Is stopping violence most important?
01:15Why is he not out saying all peaceful protesters will be
01:19protected?
01:20I think two things can be important at the same time.
01:23And the President, as I just answered, supports the right
01:26of Americans to peacefully protest.
01:27He supports the First Amendment.
01:29But that is not the majority of the behavior that we have seen
01:32taking place in Los Angeles.
01:34We have seen mobs of violent rioters and agitators assaulting law
01:39enforcement officers, assaulting our federal immigration authorities.
01:42And we have seen, as I said, this goes back to what this
01:46administration is trying to do and accomplish.
01:48And that's enforcing law and order in our nation's communities.
01:51And it's removing public safety threats from communities
01:54in Los Angeles.
01:55You're saying the majority have not been peaceful?
01:57The majority have been violent?
01:58I just read for you the arrest numbers.
02:00We've arrested nearly 400 illegal aliens alone, just illegal
02:04aliens, who have been arrested in these riots since June 6th,
02:07since they began.
02:08We've had thousands of people on the streets.
02:09Yeah, and we've had hundreds of people who have assaulted
02:12law enforcement officers.
02:13Are you saying that that's appropriate behavior?
02:16Are you saying that the President shouldn't take action?
02:18No, no, I'm not saying that at all.
02:19I'm just trying to figure out.
02:20The Democrat Governor and the Democrat Mayor of Los Angeles
02:23have failed their citizens.
02:25And the majority of Americans, the majority of Californians,
02:28do not want to see law enforcement officers being assaulted
02:31in the streets.
02:32And thankfully, the President took action and stepped in
02:35to protect our federal law enforcement agents,
02:39to protect federal buildings,
02:41to protect the federal mission of deporting illegal criminals
02:44off of our streets.
02:45And that mission will continue every day as far as we're concerned.
02:48Thank you, guys.
