Series 6, Week 19, Day 4

Every day this week, celebrity contestants Jon Culshaw, Harriet Kemsley, Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen and Verona Rose take on a series of quiz rounds selected by the host, quiz legend Richard Osman.

A daily winner is declared following a quickfire round at the end of each show, and the scores are tallied across the week, resulting in an overall champion being crowned on Friday.

Will the winning stars opt for the much-coveted House of Games decanter, or will they be tempted with the House of Games fondue set?

00:00Happy Thursday, everybody. Welcome back to House of Games.
00:12Three days, three separate winners.
00:15Does not happen often. Are we going to get four for four today?
00:18Let's find out, shall we?
00:19Somebody is going to win that trophy.
00:21We have no idea as of yet who it's going to be.
00:24One thing we do know is it will be one of these four people.
00:28For Harriet Kemsley, Lawrence Llewellyn-Bowen, Verona Rose and John Coleshaw.
00:37Three separate winners.
00:39John, you won on Monday.
00:40Tuesday, it was Harriet.
00:42Yesterday, Lawrence.
00:44I missed a Wednesday.
00:45Verona, everyone else has had a win.
00:47Can you win today, do you think?
00:48I'm going to try my hardest, but I can't promise anything.
00:53Trying your hardest is all we can ask for.
00:55John, a win on Monday.
00:57But that trophy's still up for grabs, isn't it?
00:59I mean, should we take a look at the weekly leaderboards?
01:01It's very, very close between the three of you up the top there.
01:06Look at that, Harriet at the top and John and Lawrence.
01:08It's been a good passing game, a good even week, very collegiate.
01:12It's been very collegiate.
01:12It won't be collegiate by tomorrow, will it?
01:16Someone's going to take the trophy home, John.
01:18Harriet, could be you.
01:19You could also be taking home a prize today.
01:21Today's prizes look like this, though.
01:24In fact, they are this.
01:25Oh.
01:26There's the pasta maker, the sunglasses, the compost bin, the cafetiere or the wheelie luggage.
01:32What do you think, Harriet?
01:33My mum's babysitting, so I feel like I should get a gift for my mum.
01:38So maybe the pasta maker or the cafetiere.
01:42Maybe some cool shades.
01:43Oh, my...
01:45I've met your mum.
01:46She looked lovely.
01:47What's your mum's name?
01:48Yes, Fiona.
01:49Fiona.
01:50I mean, you've got some shades coming your way.
01:51If Harriet can pull this off, good luck.
01:53What would you go for, Lawrence?
01:55I don't know, maybe the nappy bin.
01:57Nappy, yep, you can use it for anything.
01:59Verona, what would you go for?
02:00I would go for the pasta maker and I would be making some gluten-free pasta.
02:05Beautiful.
02:05Get you.
02:06And John?
02:07I think the suitcase.
02:08I mean, of course.
02:09It's so easy to spot on the airport carousel.
02:11Yeah, absolutely classic.
02:13Three separate winners across the first three days.
02:16No idea who's going to win this trophy.
02:18Should we get on and play Thursday's House of Games?
02:19Our first round is...
02:22Sounds like...
02:25Fingers on buzzers, please.
02:26First thing I'm going to do is give you a category.
02:30And that category is academic subjects.
02:33What I'm going to do now is show you some photos.
02:35And if you say what you see in those photos,
02:37it will give you the name of an academic subject.
02:39What is this academic subject?
02:41Yes, John.
02:50Engineering.
02:51Engineering?
02:53It's the right answer.
02:54Well done.
02:55The engine and the earring becomes engineering.
02:58Next subject.
02:59Oh, OK.
03:06OK.
03:06I got it.
03:09John?
03:10Physics.
03:11Physics.
03:12It's the right answer.
03:13Phys and six.
03:14My problem is I just realised how much I wanted a glass of that.
03:18Yeah, there you go.
03:19Couldn't get beyond it.
03:20Physics is the answer.
03:21Well done.
03:21If you said that at home.
03:22Next academic subject.
03:23Oh.
03:28Lawrence.
03:30Art.
03:30Art?
03:32Art.
03:33Absolutely right.
03:34Well done.
03:35Nicely done.
03:36I'll garfunkel there.
03:38Your next category is...
03:40Animals.
03:41Which animals are being represented here?
03:43Yes, John.
03:54Porcupine?
03:55Is it porcupine?
03:56Oh.
03:57That's very what it is.
03:59And pork are you and Chris Pine.
04:01Porcupine.
04:03Nicely done.
04:04Next animal.
04:11Anyone?
04:11We know the first gentleman.
04:12Yes, Lawrence.
04:14Oh.
04:15So that was a long time ago.
04:17Alpaca.
04:18Alpaca is the answer.
04:19Well done.
04:20John Murray.
04:21A fruit packer there.
04:23Next category is...
04:2619th century novels.
04:35Yes, John.
04:37Jane Eyre?
04:38It is Jane Eyre.
04:39Jane MacDonald and Donna Eyre.
04:41Jane Eyre.
04:42Well done.
04:43I like the cross-section of people who would know both of those people.
04:46LAUGHTER
04:46Here's your next one.
04:56Yes, John.
04:57I'm just checking.
04:59David Copperfield.
05:02The more pictures you get, the more helpful it is.
05:10Yeah, it's satisfying when you get them as well, isn't it?
05:12Last question in this round.
05:14Which 19th century novel is this?
05:16Yes, John.
05:17Yes, John.
05:17Heidi.
05:17Oh.
05:18Heidi.
05:18Oh.
05:18Heidi.
05:19It is Heidi.
05:20Well done, John.
05:21It is Heidi, well done, John.
05:31Someone hiding and Jack D there.
05:34That's the end of that round.
05:35And a really good round there for John Coleshaw.
05:38He won on Monday and he is very much in pole position on Thursday.
05:44Harriet and Verona yet to get off the mark.
05:47Lawrence, you've got two.
05:48John Coleshaw has got six points.
05:50How about that?
05:52Some of them just suit you thinking at the time, you know.
05:54Yeah.
05:54You can tell John is absolutely the personality type who does not want to be four points in the lead this early on.
05:59She's thinking, do you know what?
06:00Just, honestly, focus on someone else.
06:03Just for the day.
06:04Our pairs round today is going to be...
06:09Verona, who would you like to play this round with?
06:14Are you going to stick with your partner for the rest of the week?
06:15I'm going to stick with my partner.
06:16Verona and John are a team.
06:18How lovely.
06:19Lawrence and Harriet are a team.
06:22Now, in this round, Joy of Joys for me.
06:24All the questions and all the answers are in foreign languages.
06:28Okay?
06:30Listen, you've only got to answer.
06:31I've got to ask them.
06:33Harriet and Lawrence, here are your categories to choose from today.
06:39Would you like...
06:40So, you've got to work out what the languages might be and what the subject might be.
06:52I would have thought a film classique would be quite a...
06:56Yeah, let's do it.
06:56Film classique?
06:58Let's do it.
06:58Yes.
06:58That is French for classic films, you'll be shocked to hear.
07:03Here's your question.
07:04I'll give you some options for your answer as well.
07:06In which film of Alfred Hitchcock, the 1960s, Marion Coyne, is she a personage?
07:14Here's your answer.
07:15Oh, nice.
07:19So, do you know much Hitchcock stuff?
07:28I don't.
07:29Well, I know Psycho is Hitchcock.
07:32Yeah.
07:33The eyes, is that?
07:35No.
07:35Or is that the ears?
07:36No, that's the birds.
07:37Oh.
07:37And I think for Natural Cirque, that's Rear Window.
07:44Oh.
07:45So, who is Marion Crane?
07:48So, it's like, which one is Marion Crane in?
07:49Which film is Marion Crane in?
07:50Yes.
07:51And I'm just trying to think.
07:53I think it's between Psycho and the birds.
07:56Yeah.
07:57I don't know.
07:58Let's go for the birds.
07:59Let's do it.
08:00We're going to go for Les Oiseaux.
08:01Mm-hmm.
08:01Let's find out, is the answer Les Oiseaux?
08:07It is not, I'm afraid.
08:10What is the answer?
08:14It was Psycho.
08:15You're absolutely right about the question.
08:16Marion Crane is a character in which 1960 Alfred Hitchcock film?
08:20Psycho was the answer.
08:21You knew all the answers as well.
08:22She's the main character in Psycho.
08:25She's the one in the shower scene.
08:26Oh.
08:27Verona, John, I wonder if you could choose a category, please?
08:31I don't know, what do you think, music?
08:33Yeah, let's go for music, yeah.
08:34I'll be honest, my language skills are terrible.
08:38So you're going to go for music?
08:39With music.
08:40I have a terrible feeling this is not going to be a language I like.
08:43It is music in Swedish, I am informed.
08:46That is great news.
08:47Here we go.
08:48Good luck, everybody.
08:48It's become a flat pack.
08:49Here is your question.
08:51That's your question.
09:04These are your three possible answers.
09:10Can you work out what you're being asked there?
09:14Something about One Direction.
09:15So you do speak a bit of Swedish?
09:19Yes.
09:21Do you think her is like who or something?
09:24Who?
09:25Can you work this out at home?
09:27Work out what it might be?
09:30Do you know who Fran...
09:31Yeah, all Swedish people are going, yeah.
09:32Yeah, I mean, literally, yes.
09:35Sounds like some sort of classic author
09:36that might come up in a future question.
09:38Yeah.
09:39Are we just going to have to go for a guess?
09:40Should we go for a guess?
09:42Yeah, it's, uh, maybe just straight down the middle, femme.
09:47Yeah, femme.
09:48Are you going to go femme?
09:49We're going to go femme.
09:50OK, is the answer femme?
09:53It is femme.
09:54Very well done.
09:56I think that's...
09:56Can you work out what those answers mean?
09:59Well, you've transmitted it to me.
10:00How many members of the band One Direction are there?
10:03I think the answer is a four, five and six.
10:05Absolutely, yeah.
10:06I thought Amanda was eight.
10:07Fem, six.
10:08So, yeah, how many members originally?
10:10Uh, five was the answer.
10:12Lawrence, Harriet, you have another question in another language.
10:16What would you like?
10:16I feel we should pick up a word that we know what it means.
10:19Well, I think animazione,
10:21which I would assume is animation in Italian.
10:25Do you know much animation?
10:27Listen, I've got children, I've got grandchildren,
10:29there's not a cartoon film I've never seen.
10:30OK, let's do it.
10:32Animazione?
10:33Animazione.
10:33OK, it is Italian for animation.
10:37Here we go.
10:38Strap in.
10:39That's your question.
10:48Sorry to all Italians.
10:49Um, your three possible answers.
11:01Is it who is, like, the enemy in which...
11:05Absolutely is exactly what I think it is.
11:08Then it's beep, beep.
11:08Who is the enemy of Wile E. Coyote?
11:10Oh, that's the noise Beep, Beep makes.
11:13That Roadrunner makes.
11:14Oh, yeah.
11:15Oh, what?
11:15So, I would imagine that in Italian, Roadrunner is referred to as Beep, Beep.
11:21Yes.
11:22Marvin Ilmoziano is obviously Marvin the Martian.
11:26Yes.
11:27I think Titi is Tweety Pie.
11:30Oh, that's interesting.
11:32Interesting.
11:32I mean, I don't mean to, you know...
11:34You seem sure.
11:35Well, I just do genuinely think...
11:36So, we'll put this on you.
11:37I was very sure with the last one, which was terribly wrong.
11:39I'm going to say go with you, but it's on your head.
11:43OK.
11:44So...
11:44Are we going to go Beep, Beep?
11:45Beep, Beep.
11:46We're going to go Beep, Beep.
11:48So, it must be who's the arch enemy of Wile E. Coyote.
11:52Is the answer Beep, Beep?
11:55It is Beep, Beep.
11:57Very well done.
11:58Thank goodness you'd fail.
11:59That is Roadrunner's name in the Italian version.
12:01Despite your, you know, naysaying.
12:02Sorry.
12:03Marvin Ilmoziano is Marvin the Martian.
12:05And Titi is Tweety.
12:08Oh, can I have an extra point?
12:09How about?
12:10I think I deserve an extra point.
12:11Hold on.
12:11Yeah, we're going to give Lawrence...
12:12Oh, we're not going to give Lawrence an extra point.
12:14Funny.
12:16No extra points.
12:17It's just the joy of getting it right.
12:19Working it out.
12:20Well done.
12:20Well done.
12:21If you worked it out at home as well.
12:23Verona, John, can you go two from two?
12:25What would you like to go for?
12:27John, I'm just trying to score some points here.
12:29So, what do you think we should go for?
12:30Let's have a look.
12:31Let's have a look.
12:34Do you fancy the comedy one, if it is comedy?
12:37Come on, then.
12:37Yeah.
12:38Yeah, let's have a look.
12:39Yeah, you both work in comedy.
12:40Come on.
12:40Comida y bebida.
12:42It is Spanish for food and drink.
12:46Oh.
12:46Yeah.
12:47There you go.
12:48It's Spanish for food and drink.
12:49Comida y bebida.
12:51Here's your question.
12:55Here's your question.
13:01Your three possible answers.
13:03Do you think it's something, like, which one of these is vegan or something?
13:17Yeah, I'm wondering, no S apt are not suitable for vegans.
13:23The middle one has something to do with soya.
13:25OK.
13:26Almond.
13:28Almond.
13:29Oh.
13:30Maybe it's the...
13:32De Vache.
13:33Vache.
13:34Vache.
13:35So, the one that's not suitable for vegans, if that's what the question is.
13:40So, the first two seem to be all right.
13:41Shall we vote for the third one?
13:42Let's vote for the third one.
13:43The Vache.
13:44Vache de Vache.
13:45Yes.
13:46So, do you think it's which of these is not suitable for vegans?
13:47You've gone for leche de vaca.
13:48Is that right?
13:49Absolutely right.
13:50Cow's milk.
13:51Very well done.
13:52Works it out beautifully.
13:53You're absolutely right about the other two as well, almond milk and soya milk.
13:54Soya milk?
13:55Soya milk.
13:56Oh, it's milk.
13:57Very nicely done.
13:58That's the end of that round.
13:59Very well played, everybody.
14:00Sorry for my pronunciation, anybody who comes from any of those countries.
14:14Let's take a look at Lidebordo and see how we stand.
14:19Harriet, you have one point.
14:22Verona, you've got two.
14:24Lawrence, you've got three.
14:25He's got a five-point lead now.
14:27John Coleshaw, eight points.
14:30Blazing a trail.
14:31Blazing a trail.
14:32Monday's champion.
14:33Is he going to make it two?
14:35Just a lucky Thursday, that's all.
14:37Lucky Thursday.
14:38Shall we play round three?
14:40This one's going to be in English, I hope, and it's going to be...
14:45Win When They're Singing.
14:48Everyone at home, get your stopwatches out, get your phones out.
14:51I tell you what's going to happen now.
14:53You're going to hear the very first few bars of the intro of a famous song.
14:56It will then fade out.
14:58You've got to keep playing along with that song in your head
15:01and press your buzzer when you think the first word is sung in that song.
15:06OK?
15:07And whoever is closest to that will win themselves a point.
15:10So, at home, please press your stopwatches now.
15:18.
15:23Is he nodded off?
15:40That's a very long one.
15:42That was brave. Some brave stuff.
15:45Rapper's Delight by the Sugarhill Gang, that was.
15:48Let's take a look at your timings.
15:51Harriet went first. Harriet and Verona very close together.
15:54And Lawrence then, John, 25 seconds.
15:58Interesting. What have you got on your stopwatches at home?
16:00Shall we find out who's won the points? Mm-hm.
16:02OK, let's hear the first word.
16:12MUSIC PLAYS
16:17Not past 11.
16:21I said a hill. Oh, Lawrence.
16:24How about that? Very well played.
16:26Hilariously, I thought it was another one, Bites the Dust by Queen.
16:29So, you know... Could have kept quiet.
16:32He knows his old-school rap, doesn't he?
16:35I know. Amazing.
16:37Shall we do another one? Mm-hm. OK, everybody at home, are you ready?
16:41Start your stopwatches... now.
16:57They're all in here.
16:58I'll give you a little bit extra time at home if you need it.
17:02OK, everybody in.
17:04That was One Way or Another by Blondie.
17:06Let's take a look at your timings. They were all pretty close this time.
17:09I think everyone panicked at the same time.
17:11LAUGHTER
17:12Everyone within two seconds of each other there.
17:14From Lawrence first down to John last.
17:18What have you got at home? What have you got on the stopwatch here?
17:20Shall we have a little listen, see who scored the points?
17:22MUSIC PLAYS
17:23Oh, hello.
17:36Hello.
17:37Good news for John. Hello.
17:39This is the 25-second one.
17:43Yeah, what if this is two and a half minutes long?
17:47One Way.
17:4823 seconds.
17:4923 seconds.
17:51John, you got the points.
17:52Very well done.
17:53Let's do a final song in this round, shall we?
17:56Fingers on buzzers, everybody and everyone at home.
17:59Start your stopwatches now.
18:00MUSIC PLAYS
18:01Everyone's in.
18:19Freed from desire by Gala.
18:22Let's take a look at your timings.
18:25Harriet went first, 11.64.
18:27Verona left it to the end there.
18:30What have you got at home on this one?
18:31Let's find out who scored the final point of this round.
18:34MUSIC PLAYS
18:36Lawrence, again, very, very close.
18:53I know.
18:54I'd never heard that thing before in my life.
18:56Literally, I thought, if I just do that, then I can relax.
19:00You have swept up a few points.
19:01You'll have heard the chorus of that one, I suspect.
19:03Yeah.
19:03Yeah, well done, Lawrence.
19:05Wow, definitely.
19:06That was a few lucky points there.
19:07That's the end of that round.
19:08Let's take a look at our leaderboard.
19:10Two rounds to go on Thursday's House of Games.
19:15Harriet, former champion, one point at the moment in fourth place.
19:18Verona, you have two.
19:20Lawrence, you've got five.
19:21Picked up a little bit now, but still a four-point lead for John Coleshaw.
19:25Two rounds to go, John.
19:26Two rounds to hold on for your second win of the week.
19:29Is he going to do it?
19:30Let's find out, shall we, as we play round four, which is...
19:33Richard's Junk is round four.
19:39I'm going to show you a picture of my junk now.
19:41Okay, I need you to concentrate on it, if you can.
19:43I'll show you a series of items.
19:46Okay, you're going to see them for 15 seconds.
19:48You need to remember all of these items and remember what I say about them as well.
19:51And they will be the answer to every single question in this round.
19:54Okay, so let's take a look at the answers to this round.
