perfect good afternoon my name is phil hewitt group arts editor sussex newspapers lovely
00:06
this afternoon speaks dan baines who is on the road with autrophenia a mod ballet heading to
00:13
the mayflower theater southampton from june the 18th of june the 21st and of course this is
00:20
significant for you extra significant because you had the misfortune to graduate into the pandemic
00:26
doubted whether you would ever actually have the career you wanted and here you are biggest role
00:31
so far your first lead role that must feel great yeah it's fabulous yeah i'm very fortunate to be
00:38
playing a space um hence the blonde hair
00:45
yeah i dyed this for the role um and i actually love it so yeah no i'm very very fortunate to be
00:50
to be on this job um and we're halfway through tour at the moment and we're doing a smashing job and
00:55
we can't wait yeah and you must be getting a great response from audiences what is the feedback to
01:00
this the feedback is amazing we've i think so far we we've just got five star reviews so well hats off
01:08
hats off to us and the rest of the team who have worked on this job because so casting aside or
01:12
modesty what are you getting right with this why is it working so well do you think
01:17
it's because it's relevant it's it's more relevant than today than i think it ever was
01:22
it's about rebellion it's about uh youth youth trauma it's about life at home it's about trend
01:28
setting about being cool about being hip um and just it's about life and trying to figure that out
01:34
because it's mystery and i think the story of jimmy in quadrophenia is is a perfect way of showcasing
01:43
that whether that be through the album whether that be through the film through ballet or through a
01:48
a recomposed score um which pete townsend's uh wife rachel has recomposed and that's what we're
01:55
dancing to and you talk about all those issues those pressures but she knows such a friendship
02:01
drugs and so on and so on some all those things that jimmy is facing the relevance today is that
02:06
those are even more issues than they ever were aren't they life is even more difficult for young people
02:13
yeah yeah of course you're 100 right film and that's in the context of what as you see of the
02:21
pandemic where there are so many problems yet to come out perhaps
02:28
yeah of course yeah i don't think i don't feel like we like you said earlier you know i think
02:31
cover gets swept under the rug but i don't think we've seen the effects of that for generate we won't
02:36
see it for generations to come um which is a sad sight to see but you know quadrophenia came out
02:42
back in the day and we can look back on that and and sort of retrospect of of what that time was and
02:48
we can understand that and time only makes sense backwards but we can only live it forwards yeah
02:56
we've got some figuring out to do and you say time backwards but that applies to what your mum told
03:03
you as a little boy when you just wouldn't stop and stand still would you of course yeah of course i'm
03:10
very fortunate to have the job that i do i wouldn't be able to sit in an office or concentrate and and
03:15
write or or do any of that all day so i'm very very fortunate to do the job that i do i i'm very lucky
03:21
and i do love it a lot fantastic well congratulations on the role really looking forward to it and well
03:26
done you for surviving the horrid fact of having graduated into covid great to speak to you dan good
03:33
luck thank you thank you
