UK and EU agree Gibraltar border deal

The UK has agreed a deal with the EU for a fluid Gibraltar-Spain border, avoiding checks on people crossing. Gibraltar and Spanish officials will carry out joint checks at the airport, while goods will move freely across the land border. 00:00Well, I'm delighted that today we have reached a historic solution that I believe is pragmatic

00:10and gives the people of Gibraltar the certainty they need for their sovereignty

00:18and their prosperity over the years ahead.

00:24This is a good arrangement that deals with the complexity of the current arrangements

00:33that mean that people have sometimes queued for hours and has harmed the certainty that business needs.

00:42And it deals with the issues that arose as a result of the United Kingdom leaving the European Union.

00:52It builds on the successful summit that the UK had with the EU just a few weeks ago.

00:59And now we have a forward momentum that ensures the sovereignty and the prosperity of the people of Gibraltar.

01:09That builds on the relationship that my government, this new government, has set with the European Union

01:19and also brings about a new era for relations between the United Kingdom and Spain.
