00:00Chinese cultural sensation Labobo, created by toy giant Popmart, has gained massive popularity in South Africa as the hottest plush collectible.
00:08Originally children's poor characters, Labobo shot to fame as collector's items after Popmart turned them into blind box figures.
00:14To myself, I can tell you that this trend is on par with Pokemon in terms of the current market, how in-demand this stuff is.
00:24Because I collect Pokemon cards, so I can relate to the two.
00:28In terms of the two most collectible things of 2025, it's probably a Labobo doll and other Popmart pendants and Pokemon cards.
00:36And they're both the same, you can't get your hands on either.
00:41Thousands of orders have flooded in living retailers, crumbling to meet the explosive demand now in South Africa.
00:51Literally as soon as we get the next drop of Labobo's, they are pretty much gone.
00:56We've got a waiting list at the moment, so we have probably about 300 people already on that waiting list.
01:01And so they're probably not even going to hit the shelves.
01:04The thrill of the unknown still fuels the craze.
01:09Collectors now own several of the Labobo's, and Asian boxing still sets their heart racing.
