00:06The Senate returns the articles of impeachment against Vice President Sarah Duterte to the
00:16House of Representatives. The House of Representatives approves a bill to extend
00:21the Barangay and Sangguni ang Kabataan term to six years. U.S. President Donald Trump supports
00:26the arrest of California Governor Gavin Newsom for resisting a federal crackdown.
00:31Chloe San Jose pens a heartfelt message to star gymnast Carlos Yulo.
00:35And K-pop stars RM and V of BTS are discharged from the military.
00:42The Senate decides to return the articles of impeachment against Vice President
00:46Sarah Duterte to the House of Representatives. This after the Senate convened as an impeachment
00:51court on Tuesday, June 10. The move is supposedly to allow the lower
00:55chamber to address alleged constitutional infirmities in the complaint. Senators
01:00allied with Duterte earlier argued that the impeachment articles are not constitutionally
01:04sound, citing the same arguments the Vice President presented before the Supreme Court.
01:09Duterte claimed the lower chamber deliberately froze the impeachment process when it sat on
01:13supposedly weak complaints because if junked, she would get a constitutional one-year immunity
01:18from impeachment. Senator Bato de la Rosa initially wanted to dismiss the case, but the motion was
01:23later amended to remand the case until such a time that the following are accomplished.
01:28The minority bloc argues that remanding the case is tantamount to its dismissal,
01:32but Senate President and Presiding Officer Cheese Escudero insisted it does not.
01:37It is an effective termination of the impeachment. Remanding is a functional dismissal.
01:52The move to remand the case to the House, however,
01:55is likely to cast doubts on the future of the trial. There have been debates on whether the impeachment
02:00case can carry over from the 19th Congress to the 20th. Follow Rappler.com for more updates.
02:07The House of Representatives passed on Monday a bill seeking to extend the term of Barangay and
02:12Sangguniang Kabataan officials from three to six years. If the approved bill becomes law,
02:17the Barangay elections will be moved from December 2025 to May 2029. Based on House Bill 11287,
02:25Barangay officials can be re-elected once, which means they could serve a total of 12 uninterrupted
02:30years if they win in 2029. Only Barangay officials who started their first term after being elected
02:36in October 2023 can run for re-election. Supporters of the bill say that longer terms will help
02:42Barangay officials do their work better and complete projects that are hard to finish in just three
02:47years. But watchdog groups say delaying the elections goes against what the Supreme Court
02:52said about resetting elections, that elections can only be postponed if certain rules are followed.
02:58The Legal Network for Truthful Elections say postponing the 2025 Barangay polls, quote,
03:03deprives the electorate of the basic right to choose people who will govern them.
03:09US President Donald Trump says he will support the arrest of California Governor Gavin Newsom for
03:14resisting a federal crackdown. This after Trump border czar Tom Homan threatened on Sunday to arrest
03:20anyone who obstructed the deployment of National Guard troops to Los Angeles. Trump says, quote,
03:26I would do it if I were Tom. I think it's great. Gavin likes the publicity, but I think it would be a
03:31great thing. Newsom responded and said, quote, I don't care if you're a Democrat or a Republican.
03:36This is a line we cannot cross as a nation. This is an unmistakable step toward authoritarianism.
03:42Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bays opposes the clampdown, telling MSNBC,
03:47we are a city of immigrants. US Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem counters,
03:52they are not a city of immigrants, they are a city of criminals. The US military meantime will
03:57temporarily deploy about 700 Marines to the state until more National Guard troops can arrive.
04:03This marks another escalation in Trump's response to four days of street protests
04:08over his aggressive immigration policies.
04:10After Carlos Yulo's golden comeback in the 2025 Asian Championships in South Korea last week,
04:18Chloe Sunaseh pens a heartfelt message to her beau. She posts pictures of them with Yulo's medals.
04:23The gymnast won a golden floor exercise and three bronzes from individual all-around,
04:28vault, and parallel bars. She writes on Instagram,
04:31My Mahal, my champion. As you stepped onto the floor again, know that my heart is with you always.
04:37You are more than an athlete. You are a living testament to grace under pressure,
04:41strength guided by purpose, and love led by the faith you carry, not just in your body but in your
04:46spirit. She also reaffirms how proud she is to be Yulo's closest confidant.
04:52The Asian Championships are Yulo's first international appearance since winning two gold medals in the 2024
04:57Paris Olympics. K-pop group BTS members RM and V are discharged from the South Korean military.
05:06This after their mandatory service as fans were counting down to the band's comeback with more
05:11members finishing their national duty later this month. With dozens of fans cheering for them near
05:16the military base, the two members saluted the crowd and said they will return soon to perform.
05:22V says, quote,
05:23To all the armies who have waited for us in the military, I want to say I am truly,
05:27truly grateful. Please wait just a little longer and we will return with a really cool performance.
05:33The leader of the group RM, meanwhile, says, quote,
05:36I will work hard to make an album soon and come back to the stage.
05:40Two other members, Jin and J-Hope, were earlier discharged from the military and have been performing
05:45solo. Suga, Jimin and Jungkook are also set to wrap their military service as late as June 21.
