00:00The majority of the NFL is in mandatory minicamp this week, and as such, deadlines spur action.
00:06Nick Chubb in with the Houston Texans, Jai Alexander out with the Green Bay Packers.
00:14I'm Kyle Krabs with AtoZ Sports, and the Packers' long off-season saga with cornerback Jai Alexander
00:21has come to an anticlimactic close. The will-they-won't-they between Alexander and the Packers
00:26has swung every which way, including looking at a trade being the most likely outcome,
00:32and then after the Packers did not draft a corner before the seventh round of this year's NFL draft,
00:37it seemed as though maybe Alexander and the Packers would be able to smooth things over
00:41and make things work for 2025. That is not the case, as the almighty dollar proved to be
00:48too big of a pull for either side to cave on. NFL insider Jordan Schultz reported that the Bills
00:53and Packers had trade discussions centered around Alexander earlier this off-season,
00:58but that the dollar was the sticking point where Alexander didn't want to take a pay cut,
01:02the Bills didn't want to take on the full $17 million in salary, and the Packers didn't want
01:07to give up any concessions and pay salary that wasn't guaranteed to get him off the books. As a
01:13result, that trade does not happen. Then after the draft passed, the Packers made a one-year contract
01:19adjustment offer to Alexander, who has been marred with injuries during his last four seasons of
01:24play, and Alexander balked at the idea of playing on an incentive-heavy contract. So he is on the
01:31outs and joins a uniquely full cornerback market for the second week in June that includes names like
01:37Stephon Gilmore and Asante Samuel Jr. and Mike Hilton and Rasul Douglas. Alexander becomes an intriguing
01:44name added to that pool of players, plus the Dolphins cornerback Jalen Ramsey, who is available
01:50via trade in a seemingly untenable situation. He's almost certainly going to be on the move as well.
01:58But it isn't just bad news for veteran players and former pro bowlers across the league.
02:02Nick Chubb, after spending the entirety of his career in Cleveland, has found a new home with an AFC
02:09contender. He is joining the Houston Texans on a one-year contract, which is an interesting move
02:15for the Texans, considering this team traded up to draft Woody Marks on the third day of the 2025 NFL
02:21draft, and they also have Joe Mixon in the mix as well. Chubb, of course, coming back from a severe
02:29injury to his knee, did not look the same in 2024, but he was also running behind a Browns offensive line
02:36that had some aging players and some durability issues and playing with a bunch of quarterbacks
02:41that frankly couldn't properly balance the Browns offense. Chubb will have as good of an opportunity
02:47with C.J. Stroud as his new quarterback to get back to some of his old form, but workload and
02:54opportunity is a big mystery. And the Texans have also remade their entire offensive line this
03:00offseason as well. That was highlighted, of course, by trading Laramie Tunsell to the Washington
03:05commander. So as one story ends, another begins for two former pro bowlers across the league.
03:11And now we sit and wait to find out who's next.
