Incoming Presbyterian Moderator Rev Dr Trevor Gribben outlines his vision for his year in office.
Transcript
00:00So Trevor, you're about to start your new year as moderator and can you just give us an outline briefly of your vision for what you'd like to achieve in the year ahead?
00:10Well Philip, my theme for this year is a hope and future in Jesus.
00:17And it's based on the prophet Jeremiah's letter he wrote to people in Babylon in a difficult time.
00:24And he brought God's word to them where God said to him, I bring you hope.
00:30And a future. I know the plans I have for you. Not to do you harm, but to give you hope and a future.
00:36We live in a strange world where many Christians, many people in the church feel that they're living in an alien world.
00:43It's not like it used to be. It isn't like it used to be.
00:47But God has plans for this island of Ireland. Plans to give us hope and a future. Plans for his church to be part of that hope and a future.
00:55We bring the good news of Jesus. And this year I want to encourage the church to embrace that hope and future which ultimately only comes in Jesus Christ.
01:05And I also want to affirm people in civic society, people who might be Christians, might not be Christians, of all faiths and none,
01:12who are working to bring hope to their communities, in the police, in the social services, in medicine.
01:18Just ordinary people being good neighbours working for the common good.
01:22Hope is something we need in today's world.
01:25And this year I want to emphasise that theme, that hope and a future comes in Jesus Christ.
