00:00Tom Felton, going to make your Broadway debut returning to the character of Draco Malfoy in The Cursed Child.
00:07What made that something you wanted to do? How did that idea even get in your head?
00:11Well, someone asked me. Honestly, it wasn't something that I saw coming.
00:15Huge fan of the show, obviously. I've seen it a dozen times nearly in England and a few times now on Broadway.
00:22I just never saw myself having blonde hair again and reprising that role.
00:26And now as a dad, Draco has a son. So yes, it is an old character, but in a very, very new set of circumstances.
00:33So I'm excited to explore it.
00:35What do you feel like you're going to be able to hold on to from your experience playing the character before?
00:39And what do you feel like you're going to have to let go of to really play this different version of him?
00:43He definitely pronounces Potter the same way. What to let go of, I think, is ego.
00:49I think Draco's ego as a child was very much a product of his parenting.
00:52And now it's a whole different story because he's influencing his own children.
00:56So I think there'll be more of his mother than his father in the character.
01:01But I'm yet to explore it. This was only confirmed less than a month ago.
01:07So I'm very excited to get stuck in.
01:09Yeah, well, you've got a few months. November 11th, you'll be making that debut.
01:13You've seen the show a ton. It's very technically complicated as well.
01:17What are you most excited about and most nervous about?
01:20Well, I spoke to John Tiffany, our fabulous director, and I, because it's such a magical show to watch, excuse the pun.
01:27I almost, I said, I don't want to know how all the, how all the wizardry is done.
01:32And he assured me that I'm going to have to learn at some point or other.
01:35But it's absolutely incredible.
01:36I saw it first now, what, eight, nine years ago in London?
01:40And still to the day, I have no idea how they managed to do all those incredible, call them stunts, call them wizardry, if you will, on stage.
01:51So it's going to be a challenge, but a fun one.
01:53Had you spent a lot of time thinking about what Draco's life was after the movies and books ended?
01:59And therefore, was it a surprise at all when you saw Cursed Child for the first time?
02:04Not really.
02:05I went into Cursed Child not knowing that Draco was even in it, let alone that Scorpius was one of the main characters, his son.
02:12So I was thrilled, obviously.
02:14I have not really given it much thought until about a month ago.
02:18And now it's time to put the old wizarding shoes back on and see where we left off.
02:23Broadway debut, what do you feel like the energy is going to be different doing that than the acting you've done in the past?
02:31Have you been seeking out advice from anyone or just channeling different energy?
02:34Yes, quite ironically, luckily, my old school chum, Potter Radcliffe, has done quite a bit of Broadway.
02:42So he's holding my hand and certainly helping me through all the things there are to learn.
02:48But from what I gather, it's an amazing community of people.
02:50The fans are really, really gracious and excited.
02:54So I'm just thrilled to be part of it.
