00:00Telco companies have reaffirmed their commitment to protecting customer data following the sharing of mobile phone data for official statistical purposes with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission.
00:14In separate statements, CellcomDG, U-Mobile, Telecom Malaysia, and Maxis stressed that only anonymized data without any personally identifiable information will be shared with MCMC.
00:26CellcomDG said it strictly adheres to data protection laws including the Communications and Multimedia Act and the Personal Data Protection Act and is working with MCMC to support government efforts without compromising customer trust or data integrity.
00:41Meanwhile, U-Mobile echoed this, saying privacy is its top priority with data anonymized, aggregated, and shared only in compliance with regulations.
00:51TM also clarified that the mobile phone data submitted to MCMC does not contain any personally identifiable information.
00:58Maxis, on the other hand, stressed that MCMC has no access to personal data and that all shared data is anonymized and processed securely under the Personal Data Protection Act 2010.
01:09On Friday, MCMC clarified that its collection of mobile phone data excludes any personally identifiable information and is solely for generating official statistics to support policymaking in the information and communications technology sector and tourism sector.
