Chop shop uncovered and multiple arrests as police flood Rotherham industrial estate

00:00I'm Chief Inspector James Bennett and today's operation Duxford in Rotherham

00:04has had two areas of focus. First in the town centre supporting our partners

00:09there in improving it, making a place where people want to come and spend time

00:13to socialise and conduct leisure activities, shopping with friends etc by

00:17doing our bit to there to disrupt any antisocial behaviour. There's some

00:20proactive work going on around warrant execution there and for around some

00:25high-vis patrols and engaging with the public. The second element is we've

00:29conducted a large all-premise warrant at an industrial estate in Kiverton. That is

00:35on the back of 12 months of intelligence development by our South Neighbours

00:38policing team where we've had a number of incidents of chop shops being located

00:43where we've located vehicles stolen being taken to and broke into parts for sale

00:47on the underground market or to be shipped aboard. We've also recovered goods stolen

00:51from freight here from lorry theft up to 200,000 pounds worth of chocolate for

00:56example 8,000 pounds worth of printer cartridges. Today's activity has shown us put resources

01:01into this area to properly investigate what's going on at this site, develop the

01:06intelligence and we'll be supported by a number of partners in doing that. The

01:09National Vehicle Crime Reduction Partnership are here today. They've provided experts in

01:14technology around jamming signal trackers, Tracker UK are here. We've got Rotherham

01:19Metropolitan District Council here around environmental waste bringing lots of powers

01:23here and some experts from manufacturers here to assist with identification of

01:27parts and we've recovered already at least four stolen vehicles and there are a

01:33number of parts which we're now going to take the time to go through as the

01:36activity continues today.
