00:00Have you had any conversations with President Trump about inviting Prime Minister Modi to the G7?
00:07Short answer is no
00:10On India the RCMP said just last year that the Modi government is orchestrating a campaign of violence and intimidation in Canada
00:18That includes murder. Why are you inviting him to the G7?
00:21And what message does this send about your seriousness or lack of it when it comes to stopping foreign interference the
00:27So let's put two aspects in context first is
00:34We are in the role Canada's in the role of the G7 chair
00:38and in those discussions has agreed with our G7 colleagues
00:43include important discussions on energy security on
00:47digital future
00:49critical minerals
00:51amongst others and partnerships actually in building infrastructure
00:54In the emerging and developing world. There are certain countries
00:58That should be at the table for those discussions
01:01And in my capacity as G7 chair consultation with others
01:06Some others make those determinations India the fifth largest
01:10economy in the world
01:13Effectively the most populous country in the world central to a number of those supply chains at the heart of number of those supply chains
01:19So it makes sense and in addition
01:23Bilaterally, we have now agreed importantly to continued law enforcement
01:31To law enforcement dialogue. So there's been some progress on that recognizes
01:35Issues of accountability. I extended the invitation to Prime Minister Modi
01:40For in in that context and he has accepted
01:43Do you believe Mr. Modi was involved in the killing of Hardeeb Singh Nijjar?
01:52Well, first off there is a
01:55Legal process that is literally underway
01:58And and quite advanced in Canada, and it's never appropriate to
02:02To make comments in the in in any in any respect with respect to those legal processes
02:08But with respect if you cannot say no why invite I did that I
02:12I gave
02:14With respect I gave you an answer that is appropriate to someone in my position
02:20About an ongoing legal process in which including which federal authorities are directly involved, but there is a possibility
02:29I
02:29will give you the same answer to any legal process
02:33And anyone who holds this office
02:38Past and future will give
02:41The same answer to any ongoing legal process because otherwise I'm the individual in this office will interfere
02:49What is your message then to Canadians who
02:52Are a bit disturbed or wondering why Mr. Modi is being invited to Canada
02:56When there is this legal process that has not cleared him and his governments of involvement in the death of a Canadian
03:02In on Canadian soil
03:04My message is that they're we're a country of the rule of law the rule of law is under is
03:10Proceeding as it should in Canada, and I am not going to disrupt that process last question
03:17Thank you
