00:00Did y'all know mint juleps were not originally made with bourbon? The julep originated in the
00:05United States when English settlers were in the area. At the time corn whiskey aka bourbon had
00:11not yet been invented so their spirit of choice was actually wrong. During that time they referred
00:18to the drink as a mint julep and around that time corn whiskey bourbon was becoming popular so
00:25everyone decided they were going to jump on the new train and switch right on over and now when
00:29someone says mint julep our minds immediately go to bourbon. Juleps are traditionally served in silver
00:34or pewter cups like this one because the metal is known to keep the drink extra cold. So how exactly
00:40do you make one? First off chill that silver cup. Add in your mint. Muddle it a little bit. A lot of the
00:46classic recipes actually call for powdered sugar because it can dissolve quickly in your drink with
00:51a little bit of water. Crush ice makes a mint julep. Add in your bourbon. Top it with more ice. You want
00:56your ice to kind of mound over the top of your cup. Arnish it with a little fresh mint. Extra points
01:01if you slap it before you put it in. Helps get the oils going and there you have it a proper mint
01:07julep fit for the derby or really any time of year. Cheers y'all.
