00:00The world's richest man and former backer of Donald Trump, Elon Musk, has accused the U.S. president of being in the Epstein Files as their feud intensifies.
00:11More than 1.6 million Muslims have scaled Mount Arafat, performing a key ritual in the annual Islamic Hajj pilgrimage.
00:20Owner of X and once a strong backer of Donald Trump, Elon Musk dropped the bomb on the U.S. president on Thursday.
00:27Trump is in the Epstein Files. That's the real reason they've not been made public, Musk said in a post on X.
00:34Calling upon his followers to mark his post for the future, Musk also said the truth will come out.
00:40So who was Jeffrey Epstein and what are the files that Musk is talking about?
00:45Jeffrey Epstein was a U.S. businessman who was tried for sexually abusing dozens of girls under the age of 18, the youngest of whom was 14.
00:53Epstein was also accused of creating a prostitution network, and he was found dead in his cell at New York's Manhattan Metropolitan Central Prison on August 10, 2019.
01:04Epstein was alleged to, with help from his close aide Ghislaine Maxwell, have flown dozens of underage girls to Little St. James in the U.S. Virgin Islands.
01:12The island would later be nicknamed Epstein Island or Pedophile Island.
01:18Flight logs containing names of Epstein's clients, who are alleged to be well-known politicians and business people,
01:24are believed to exist even though no such document has been found yet.
01:28Existence of those logs, collectively called the Epstein Files, is yet to be proven.
01:33The Eurovision Song Contest is facing pressure from the European Parliament with growing concerns about possible televote manipulation.
01:46Just three weeks after this year's contest concluded, questions over the integrity of the public vote have intensified.
01:53A group of 12 EU lawmakers has sent a formal letter to the Eurovision's organiser, the European Broadcasting Union, urging to release a full voting data.
02:04The European public deserves full transparency regarding this year's voting process,
02:09including the extent of state-sponsored advertising and any undeclared sponsorship.
02:16The MEP specifically points to the alleged promotion of Israel's entry, reportedly supported by campaigns run by the Israeli government advertising agency.
02:26The controversy is further fueled by a renewed debate over Israel's involvement in the contest, a flashpoint for the second consecutive year.
02:35If the EBU fails to act, there is a risk of completely discrediting the Eurovision Song Contest in next year's Eurovision.
02:45We want to focus on the music, not on scandals.
02:50Ahead of the contest, Eurovision director Martin Green acknowledged in an interview with Euronews that politics inevitably seep into the event.
02:59We're not a political competition. We try and avoid politics.
03:03But, of course, if you gather in this year 37 countries from around the world, it will also always prompt discussion and debate.
03:12And that's a good thing.
03:14The MEPs have called on the EBU to also commission an independent audit and implement safeguards to prevent political interference in future contests.
03:23U.K. Trade Minister Jonathan Reynolds is keen to use e-gates as soon as possible.
03:35The minister believes that it is legally possible to implement the faster system of passport checks for British nationals traveling to and from EU member states.
03:45And this following the deal struck last month at the EU-UK summit.
03:51Asked by Euronews whether 2025 would be the year for people to use e-gates for their summer holidays, Reynolds was hopeful, even if the implementing details are still pending.
04:02We hope it is as soon as possible because part of the agreement is the commission saying there's no legal impediment to the use of e-gates.
04:09It is used in some countries. Obviously, it's got huge efficiency advantages from using.
04:14Reynolds is confident that the May agreement reached with the EU will be able to stand up against future governments, dismissing opposition arguments against the agreement from the U.K.'s conservative and reformed parties.
04:27Reynolds believes there will always be people who want to move on.
04:32In terms of the media reaction, I'm absolutely confident that this agreement is in the best interest of the U.K.
04:41It's in the best interest of the EU as well.
04:43But I think there is a coalition we can build that doesn't want to look to the past.
04:47One of the contested points in the new Labour UK-EU reset last month was an agreement settling access to fisheries for the next 12 years.
04:56Reynolds defends it.
05:01Let's not forget on fishing.
05:02There is no less access, no diminishing of the U.K. position from what is already the case.
05:08And actually what is already the case is better than it had been in some previous years.
05:14Agreement on issues like e-gates and fisheries are an example of a strengthening cooperation following a broader deal reached in May.
05:21More than 1.6 million Muslims face temperatures exceeding 40 degrees Celsius as they embarked on a day of worship and had rituals in Saudi Arabia.
05:38Pilgrims climbed hills and scaled Mount Arafat in the early hours of Thursday to perform a key ritual in the annual Islamic pilgrimage.
05:47Arafat holds immense significance in Islam as it's mentioned in the Holy Quran and it's where Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him delivered his final sermon.
05:55According to traditional sayings of the Prophet, the day of Arafat is the most sacred day of the year for Muslims, where God draws near to the faithful and forgives their sins.
06:06After spending a day on Mount Arafat some 25 kilometers from the holy city of Mecca, worshippers descended down to Muzdalifah.
06:14In Muzdalifah, pilgrims collect pebbles to throw at the devil in Mina over the next three days of Hajj, beginning on the first day of Eid al-Adha on Friday.
06:22Hajj is one of the five pillars of Islam and is a religious obligation involving rituals and acts of worship.
06:29Every Muslim is obligated to perform Hajj at least once in their lifetime, provided they have the money and are physically fit to do it.
06:39According to intel from the EU's border agency, irregular crossings have decreased this year by 27%.
06:47Frontex say their 3,300 officers manning the EU's external entries are to thank for this drop.
06:55Watching it all from his office in Vienna is Michael Spindeliger, director general of ICMPD, an organization that plays a role in shaping migration policy in Europe.
07:06Now it's going down, but you don't know how long this is staying with these lower numbers.
07:12Still, if you have a look to the numbers of asylum seekers in Europe, it is very high.
07:19So also last year, we had nearly one million asylum applications in Europe.
07:25This is a very high number.
07:26And so I think it is not a situation where we can calm down.
07:32It is a situation where we have to look exactly what kind of measures have to be done for the future.
07:38But what about Italy and Denmark, I ask?
07:41The two migration hawks have written to the European Court of Human Rights, asking for, quote, more room to crack down on migration.
07:49Michael Spindeliger admits there are some, quote, legal issues, but calls their measures innovative.
07:55I think everybody is invited to look to, as they call it, intelligent, modern ways to deal with the migration issues.
08:07And this model, especially from Italy, to deal with migration procedures in Albania is interesting because this is a new way.
08:16For their part, the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg has written their own letters, saying that debate is healthy, but politicizing the court is not.
08:27Interior ministers from all across the bloc will be gathering in Luxembourg next week to discuss migration.
08:32Maeve McMahon, Euronews, Brussels.
08:34The European Union is extending the temporary protection granted to Ukrainian refugees until March 2027,
08:46as Kiev is also looking for a way to motivate Ukrainians to come back home.
08:52Newly created Ministry of National Unity of Ukraine is tasked with keeping close ties with people abroad and finding the way to bring them back.
09:00This brings, from now, more than 20 months of clarity for Ukrainians here in the European Union to plan their life and to plan their future return to Ukraine once the conditions will allow that.
09:20For some, peace and stable peace is a priority.
09:26For others, it is also needed, the economic development, job market, better employment, new jobs, economic breakthrough.
09:39For others, European integration.
09:41But if we go this way, most of Ukrainians will seriously consider relocating back to Ukraine.
09:47Until then, Alexei Chernyshev says, they have been contributing to the EU's economy and labor market.
09:58I think the contribution to European Union countries is very strong.
10:02I think Ukrainians in Europe is a very strong asset to a labor market.
10:09They are professional, they are hardworking, they are intelligent, they are educated.
10:13And obviously, the labor markets will compete between each other.
10:18Ukraine and the EU also agreed an appointment of a special envoy to oversee the transition, integration and return at the political level.
10:26We are having a big support from European Commission on inviting, setting up a special envoy role for Ukraine.
10:39And we will also develop the Unity Hub program throughout the European countries.
10:44I'm sure it will develop the possibilities for Ukrainians to consider serious return home, again, conditionally, on the stable peace.
10:52An estimated 4.3 million Ukrainians left their country and relocated across the EU.
10:59And while Ukraine really hopes people will come back as soon as they can,
11:03Chernyshev admits that it is getting more difficult as Russia's invasion of Ukraine drags on.
11:08Kiev hopes people will return, but it will not force them to.
11:11We cannot force anybody to come back. This is impossible.
11:17The only motivation to go back to Ukraine is successful Ukraine.
11:21And your love to your homeland.
11:23These are the only two factors that make Ukrainians go back and consider this decision seriously.
11:31No forceful actions can be provided and will be provided.
