00:00Euronews has been targeted by an anti-Moldova disinformation campaign.
00:07More false videos alleging criminality and health issues in Moldova and attributed to Euronews are circulating online,
00:14with some even being posted by accounts posing as Euronews staff.
00:18One video claims that Moldova ranks first in the number of STD carriers in Europe,
00:23while others talk of waves of illegal immigration flowing from Moldova into the EU,
00:29particularly Italy.
00:31All of them use Euronews' graphics and branding,
00:33and many have since been shared by accounts on TikTok and X,
00:36purporting to be current or former Euronews journalists,
00:40including one claiming to be the channel's former CEO.
00:43They've received thousands of views and likes as of the time of recording,
00:46and some have since been deleted, but Euronews didn't produce any of these videos.
00:51The accounts posing as Euronews staff feature profile pictures that appear to be AI-generated.
00:56One supposedly belongs to a man called Brandon Goyce, who claims to be Euronews' former CEO.
01:02However, no such person has ever served as the channel's chief,
01:06and online searches yield no trace of anyone with that name and working in the media.
01:11Other profiles contain similar uncanny avatars and the same bio,
01:15hashtag Euronews or hashtag Euronews rep.
01:18They have also all only posted a single video each,
01:21all related to the same subject matter about Moldova, and follow no other accounts.
01:27The false videos and accounts appear to be part of the Matryoshka campaign,
01:31a coordinated pro-Russian operation known among fact-checkers for spreading false news reports
01:36under the guise of international media outlets.
01:39The campaign often targets EU and NATO countries, as well as Ukraine,
01:43seemingly to weaken alliances and discredit Western democracies.
01:47Euroverify has already debunked other false videos attributed to Euronews
01:51as part of the disinformation campaign, which targeted Moldova, Romania and France.
