00:00Yes, this is a fabricated Euronews report.
00:08A fabricated report, which fraudulently bears Euronews's branding and logo, has been circulating on Telegram.
00:15The report was first spotted by Ukraine's Center for Countering Disinformation on pro-Russian Telegram channels.
00:22While the format strongly resembles Euronews's social media videos, Euronews did not produce it.
00:28The doctored video claims that Romania's Ministry of Foreign Affairs sent France a protest note
00:34in which it accuses French authorities of electoral interference.
00:38However, in reality, while the Romanian government has come out to denounce electoral interference,
00:43it has accused Russia, and not France, of meddling in the second round of its presidential elections.
00:48In the runoff, pro-European centrist Nicolas Jourdan narrowly beat the nationalist George Simeon.
00:54Simeon lodged an application to annul the election results on grounds of foreign interference,
00:59but this was rejected by Romania's top court.
01:02Romania's Ministry of Foreign Affairs told Euronews that it refutes the claims in the doctored video,
01:07which it qualifies as Russian propaganda.
01:10The fake Euronews video also repeated claims from Telegram founder Pavel Durov,
01:14who alleged that France's intelligence chief asked him to silence remaining conservative voices
01:19in a bid to influence the election outcome.
01:22Euroverify found no evidence to support these allegations,
01:25while the French Interior Ministry said Durov's claims are a tactic to divert attention
01:30from the real interference threats targeting Romania.
01:33This is not the first time that a doctored Euronews report has been shared.
01:37This propaganda technique, which involves digitally altering and faking reports from mainstream news outlets,
01:42has become increasingly common since Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
