A stampede broke out in the immediate vicinity of M Chinnaswamy stadium in Bengaluru on Wednesday, June 04, during celebrations for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) cricket team's maiden IPL title win. At least 11 people died in the stampede that occurred after massive crowds arrived to attend a felicitation event organised for the RCB team. Overcrowding and attempted forced entry by cricket enthusiasts who did not have entry tickets are said to be some of the major reasons that led to the tragic incident. The Congress-led Karnataka government has appointed Bengaluru Urban Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate G Jagadeesha as the inquiry officer to investigate the stampede.
