00:00The garden rescue team are on a mission to make garden dreams come true Charlie
00:11Dimock Lee Burkill Flo Headlem and Chris Hull are here to answer your gardening
00:27emergencies feels disorganized a bit chaotic it's a bit of a shocker each week two of our designers
00:34will go head-to-head pick me and let them do this the garden we're gonna go with is and whichever
00:47designer loses the race is on helps the winner build the garden good idea did you get that on
00:53camera they said good idea Charlie amazing turning garden dreams open your eyes well into reality
01:03today the team are transforming a garden in Salford you like playing ball don't you
01:20are you gonna get the ball come on here you go I'm Mead I'm Lottie we're both fashion and footwear
01:30buyers I work in apparel and I work in footwear Lottie and Mead met as interns in the fashion
01:36business and moved into their Edwardian terrace in 2023 with a rescue dog Bella my friend just
01:45randomly sent me this house one day and said I think you'd like to live here it was a period
01:50terrace it was quite old over 100 years old and it was very different to what we'd experienced in the
01:55last few years living in a brand new apartment in central town it had more outside space we were going
02:01from sort of a full brick terrace to a lot of green space around and it was just complete change of
02:06environment what exactly what we were looking for the couple have worked hard to bring their sense of
02:11style to the house so inside I feel like we've made a really inviting space it feels really cozy
02:17obviously there's lots of passion colors lot of passion patterns we've got a checkerboard rug a
02:22lovely vibrant pink chair with a leopard print cushion house has some really nice features got an
02:30original fireplace the checkerboard tiles and they're just beautiful I really think you know as an entryway into
02:35the house it really is a showstopper but the garden is where the style statements end so this is the
02:45first part of the garden when you come out of the house it's just a nothingness alleyway we did try and
02:51paint it white to make it feel less dingy it just hasn't made much of an impact as you can see it's it's such a
02:58nothing space it's not really got anything about it this is patio when we actually have the house
03:07surveyed the surveyor slipped through it so we did start to take it up but did really struggle with it
03:13it's so unattractive it's probably the worst thing in the garden when we picked up the deck in as you can
03:20see underneath it there's like this there is a checkerboard patterned floor but there is also sloped down into
03:26concrete which then when you move further towards the end of the garden there's a giant step up
03:32which you know you have to go past all of these weeds and then it brings you into this ginormous space which
03:40has absolutely no purpose we've got two flower beds overgrown with weeds and the ivy coming down on both sides of it
03:47you've got these nice paving stones but again overgrown with weeds and don't really tie back to the rest of a garden in
03:54any way I think the garden just really lacking any kind of color character any kind of like personal
04:01stamp on it it's just feeling like a yard right now and that's probably being generous yeah Lottie and
04:08need may have a good eye for fashion but when it comes to flora fauna and this garden they just don't
04:14know where to start it's uneven it's unsafe it's unstable it's unattractive it is just awful
04:22Lee and Flo will be fighting for the chance to bring new life to need and Lottie's garden
04:32so here we have Lottie and me from Salford they are a cute couple aren't they
04:41I know well I'll tell you what isn't cute Flo their garden
04:45oh my days that is tragic isn't it look at this death trap deck oh it's awful it's got to go
04:51not very suitable for little Bella oh the little rescue dog yeah I mean how do you soften all of this make it dog friendly
04:58inviting because I look at that and I just want to turn around and walk away no I look at that and
05:03I just think color standard should we take a look at what they want yes I think a garden should always
05:12tie with the Italian with the inside of the house you know it's an extension of your house it should
05:17be another room well that's quite nice maybe trying to link the garden to the inside of the house and
05:22vice versa yes yes so they're thinking bold in our garden I would love to have a cooking area we'd love
05:30going away and holiday and we just love to sit outside and have a drink and eat a bit of food so
05:36if we could do that in our own garden that would be perfect I am most looking forward to inviting
05:41friends and family around like having everyone we love in a space outside where people don't have to
05:48feel like they have to just beware of the floor so so eating and food and family I think is very
05:54important to them it'd be amazing if we could walk outside and feel like we're in a little area of
06:02Amsterdam or something on a nice summer's day that's what we're looking for to not feel like we're in our
06:09garden in Salford one hand we've got Edwardian and we've got edgy bar in Amsterdam yeah yeah it's it's a
06:15tall order it's a tricky combo you know to be able to have some color out there which isn't
06:20concrete slabs and green ivy just be really inviting and luscious and lovely right they want quite a lot
06:29yeah what's the budget well it's five thousand pounds which is a healthy budget yes but there's
06:35nothing there it's a blank canvas and there's all that deck to sort of either fix or remove yes yes yes
06:40well bring on the bold Edwardian cool fusion challenge I say color versus form who knows
06:50flow and Lee must create a design that fits Lottie and Mead's five thousand pound budget
07:01the couple must pick the one they prefer and the losing designer will help the winner build it along
07:08with an expert team of landscapers who provide their labor for free which leaves the full budget for
07:14materials back in Salford the designers pitches are in let's watch these designs Lottie and Mead I am so
07:23excited to bring to you this bold design because let's be real checkerboards are quite extra they're
07:29quite bold so starting with exiting the house I've created what is effectively like a runner with this
07:36checkerboard paving now it goes right up along the side of the house and then hits the decking that
07:43runner is fantastic now on either side we've got a gravel channel so I'm going to plant some scented
07:49climbers here that will give you that sensory assault just as you come out the house oh brilliant
07:55Lottie and Mead first thing I've done is given you this really inviting space that you'll see
08:01from inside the house and when you're in the kitchen which is why I've painted this section of
08:06the wall a really vibrant hot tangerine orange that's going to clash against some of the colors
08:12inside and also the blues and purples of the rest of the garden's planting scheme I love that bright
08:18colored wall I think that really will tie in with the inside of the house what I've done is to help
08:25bring not only a pop of color but use two green oil drums that are going to plant up with things
08:30like evergreen fatsia japonica maybe a miscanthus grass that's going to sway in the breeze so this
08:36first part of the garden is going to use a really dark black gravel and I'm going to use these white
08:41pavers as stepping stones throughout so when you're inside looking out you can immediately get that eye
08:46hook to the hall and that beautiful Edwardian floor in the garden it's interesting how he's sort of
08:52used for black and white gravel and pavers to sort of emulate that contrasting with like inside now
09:00I've replaced your deck with a new deck and we have this wonderful social space here on the left hand
09:07side there are some planters and on the right hand side that's the main seating area you've got the
09:13pergola and an opportunity to plant climbers up there scented climbers that will cover the canopy on
09:21this area here just outside the outhouse I'm giving you a table here a preparation table wooden with a
09:28nice stone top you can put your pizza oven on it's all part of the dream isn't it that table's great I
09:35know that you want to entertain and you also want to cook outdoors so I've designed you this custom
09:41outdoor kitchen here so what I've done is build almost a dresser behind the outdoor kitchen where
09:47you can hang glasses up cutlery plates I'm also going to give you some beautiful herbs you can grab
09:53and pop into cooking or cocktails so this is like the food preparation cocktail bar area where all your
10:00friends can gather as you sort of shake up a mimosa or maybe a dark and stormy cocktail with loads of
10:06rum and ginger beer it's thought about everything though because outdoor kitchen with storage I also
10:12know that the weather is not always brilliant in Manchester which is why I've given you this tin
10:17reef arbor that you can sit under opposite the kitchen have a chat with whoever's cooking but
10:22also take shelter from the Sun or the rain the bench looks a perfect size for me and Bella to sit
10:27here Lee and Flo have brought Lottie Amid's interior to their exterior in very different ways and created
10:36distinct al fresco cooking areas but what about the rear of the garden so to transition from the deck area
10:45up to the paved area I've given you a step throughout the whole garden the steps are quite gradual the whole
10:53way through and then I've painted these two areas I'm in a dark race and what that does is it creates zones
11:02in this area here so in the top zone I've created a little bed here in the corner and giving you this
11:09beautiful multi stem tree which will just create a canopy and just a really nice spot to look at the
11:18whole of the garden just to take it all in I've been perfect right where that Sun hits this area at
11:25the back of the garden is the largest generous space and as you journey up the steps you're suddenly
11:30going to be met with this beautiful really thin timber pergola that's going to help bring as much
11:36light into this part of the garden as possible also bring that feeling of privacy without being too
11:41domineering I can really see my friends coming around sitting on the bench was we're all having
11:48a nice drink so lot you need if you want a garden that's going to be the talk of the town and make
11:53everyone whisper behind those twitching curtains then this is the edgy Edwardian garden for you two
11:59fashionistas Wow so guys in summary you wanted a bold edgy garden that epitomizes your style that's what
12:11I've created for you and I've called it bold Edwardian modern outdoor living what's not to
12:16love I think this is gonna be really challenging I think we're gonna have to make a list pros and
12:21cons mead and Lottie must now decide which is their favorite design now what I really liked about
12:31Flo's design here is the pergola with these climbing plants and the seating area underneath it you can see
12:37it being a really nice place to sit whether it's relaxing a bit more of a social drinking afternoon
12:42or it's even just the perfect place to have dinner on an evening and for me what I really really like
12:47about Lee's is this outdoor kitchen area where you know we are going to be able to prepare cook make food
12:53together with opposite each other with me sat on the bench and then view in the kitchen I think now
13:00that we've come outside into the garden are really kind of measured up sized up where is where everything
13:06is going to be I think it just makes the decision even harder so what we're going to do what are we going to do
13:12right lots of you need have made their decision this is the moment of truth moment of truth
13:22flow here we go hi hi flow thank you both so much for sending over our garden signs we absolutely loved
13:28both of them I think if we were told we could only have one of those gardens we would have been happy
13:35with either of them I love everything so unfortunately we can only pick one garden and and that garden that
13:42we have decided to go with is Lee Lee you are the chosen one I think it was a kitchen area that swung it
13:56and you know what there's still plenty of clashing colors I've got loads of parts of the garden where
14:00you are going to feel totally at home flow brilliant brilliant well let's bring soul for the life shall
14:05we maybe some cocktails as well project manager Ben and an expert team of landscapers have just two
14:16days to rescue Lottie and Mead's garden on the wall there Lottie Mead I think they painted it white
14:23well Lee wants that terracotta we've got some black and white checkered paving going in so we're going
14:30to put that in grid formation yeah and then quite a lot of timber work going on there guys we've got a
14:36kitchen area we've got shelter we've got raised beds we've got steps we've got a pergola we've got a
14:42seating area we've even got a chandelier made out of wood I know everyone happy yeah let's get it done
14:49to make way for a safer stylish social and al fresco dining space the team are getting the 73 square
15:00meter garden cleared he's cracking on with it straight away Tori Jamie and Lee are lifting up
15:07the deck in we've got to see what's underneath there because you've got to get prepped ready
15:11for the patio to go down Lee has designed a checkerboard central space for Lottie and me to
15:17entertain in so the team is stripping out 20 square meters of stubborn decking one of the issues that
15:27I'm having straight away is that it's so old the the screws are rotted rusted so eventually smash it
15:34apart rather than take it apart the whole outdoor space will reflect the colorful creative interior
15:42of Lottie and Mead's home it's going to be a big impact wall as they come out of the back of the
15:49kitchen they'll come out there with the barrels here with the planting in so it's really going to
15:53pop with the green against the terracotta so yeah I think it's going to look really good look at this
16:08page going on really well so we might get away with one coat we'll see how it dries with the rotten
16:16decking out of the garden the team preps the exposed old patio ready for the new checkerboard tiles to be
16:22laid on top well that's the first one going down at the top end of the garden Lee is leaving the old
16:34block style paving in place but has designed raised beds to sit at either side of a long pergola just
16:42grab the level mate Lee and Jamie are building it up attaching vertical posts to raised beds and
16:50screwing horizontal cross beams in place to create a roof that's the center bracing that's just firmly
16:59tore up a bit now so now we've got to concentrate on the seat below
17:03so two more slabs to go on the checkerboard patio then we've got three sets of stepping stones to do
17:33and I'm all done Lee is building a bench across the pergola to create a generous social seating space
17:47what's the level like then Lee oh it's only done bang on oh lovely all right then boys load test on this seat let's have everybody on it see if it's load as well
17:57oh that's lovely that's nice being close to the ivy isn't it
18:02Lee's design zones three areas from the front to the back of the garden connected by planting in raised beds
18:11we just created the the lower bed around the patio area got another bed to put there around that corner
18:21there and then because of the ivy roots we've got to we've got to put another piece down here to retain
18:26retain retain all that there looking at the patio compared to the wall that looks like that it's not
18:32square to that so we'll adapt it we'll make it work it's what we're doing to Andy we make it work yeah
18:38adapt and overcome there's no doubt the team has worked hard today the checkerboard patio is in
18:45position and Andy's laid three boardwalk planks amongst the dark gravel at the garden's entrance
18:51this is the last slab of the job going down I'm really happy with how it looks actually I really
19:01like the white and it's the dark and against the dark gravel so yeah I think I've earned a cup of tea
19:06with planks patios pergolas and raised beds in place the landscapers are as ready as can be
19:16for Lee and Flo's arrival in the morning
19:18we've got a really edgy couple two fashionistas today to create something a little bit out of the
19:34ordinary edgy edgy maybe a dose of anarchy yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah that one ah this already looks
19:46like a garden transformation yes absolutely loving that checkerboard yeah it's giving me almost dance
19:52floor vibes yeah you never know we could be having a little boogie on there later but looking around
19:57there's loads to do what do you want me to do well over there in that little nook near the house
20:01so I think of as a pocket garden so I would love you to work your magic over there yeah a bit of
20:07color theory yes so that when they're sat inside it's going to call to them and say come outside see
20:12the garden I can definitely do that definitely do that right I'm gonna crack on see you in a bit
20:17the landscapers are already busy Lee has built the frame for a snug seating space in the central dining
20:27area now a key part of my design for lots in need to give them usable outdoor spaces by cutting the
20:34garden into rooms and at this top space here we've got this really large entertaining space what I
20:39wanted to do is make it feel as if they're in one of those bars that they like in the back alleys of
20:43Amsterdam where they feel snug where all the family and friends can come but because the garden is just
20:48a bit of a barren wasteland at the moment it's all about building up and giving them these little
20:52pockets of gardens so we've got all of these raised beds going in that are going to be full of
20:56beautiful plants as you move through the garden and as I step over Lee thank you it's yet another room
21:02we're then to this central courtyard area now I've mirrored the same tile patterns that they've got in
21:07the house outside so it connects to spaces and it's all about giving them that extra room so rather than
21:13thinking about conservatories extensions and really expensive solutions to problems with space it's about
21:18using the garden and making this almost like another room to the house that they can spill out
21:22into these design marries different zones through the planting choices types of material and new steps
21:31to guide them through the garden what I love about doing this is you connecting the beds as well
21:40yes it's a hold everything together right can I be the first person to walk and it's done you can walk
21:45on this bit now oh I'll wait till it's done for the entrance to the garden Andy has cut drainage holes
21:54into metal drums as a statement piece now when you have a container this size there are a few challenges
22:07first of all you need to get your drainage hole sorted and the guys have used an angle grinder to cut some slits
22:12that's going to provide the drainage holes then you've got the height of it you don't need to fill the whole of it with
22:19compost and what I'm doing is a really good trick that you can use so I'm taking these these plant pots which
22:25for the most part can't be recycled I'm going to go about halfway to about there
22:29and then I'm taking an old ton sack like that and I'm gonna push down and that'll leave enough room
22:44for soil and for a good root run for the plots oh you're gonna need loads aren't you yeah that's half
22:58filling the drum safe soil and makes them easier to move when filled with Lee's choice of plants
23:03right let's take a look at these beauty oh wow that orange is popping I know the whole color palette is
23:16all about purple yellow and orange really restrained but contrasting colors to really bring that small
23:21space to life mm-hmm yes it will do those little pockets of planting and with the repetition is going
23:26to be really impactful and I really wanted to make sure that this garden feels a little bit edgy but
23:31controlled yeah right let's get these off
23:42now here's a beauts we've got these nephophia otherwise known as the red hot poker plant and
23:48you can kind of guess how it gets its name now these are really bright colored herbaceous perennials
23:54that need full sun so these are going to go in the brightest parts of the garden look at that for
23:58impact Lee's plants will bring a purposeful clash and contrast to other materials he's chosen for the
24:05the structures of the garden so here's your sheets look at that now this is going to look so nice in
24:12the garden because we're introducing a new material we've got the black and the white we've got the
24:16wood and then we've got this metal and the whole point of this is to give that little bit of bling to
24:22the garden with a bit of an industrial edge oh yeah it's lovely yeah and the sound of the rain on
24:28it is exactly landscaper lee's cutting the corrugated metal to size to create a roof for the snug seating
24:35area now what else you need lee some big screws i will do i'll just get everything leveled up now
24:47we're using these steel screws that already have built in a little rubber seal and a washer so that
24:53when they go in they're watertight and they don't rust right gonna pass you the first couple up
25:04and what i really like about this part of the garden is the proportions and it's just the right size
25:09for lottie mead and the pup to sit here and feel really snug and you'll also notice the design detail
25:15of the rule of three and then we've got three flags we've not broken any the lines and it suddenly
25:19starts to feel really well proportioned
25:29yeah boy
25:34now the key plot for this oil drum container is fatsia what's not to love about fatsia
25:42they're evergreen look good all year round and just look at the size of those leaves if you want some
25:48bold drama in your garden choose a fatsia
25:56what i like about fatsia is that it's it's tough looking it's exotic looking and really you know a
26:03plant that sort of takes care of itself really and when you see it set against a terracotta wall i mean
26:11what's not to love it really is just a really good high contrast and for lottie and mead who aren't
26:17afraid of color banging
26:31designer lee is keen to bring more contrast and material clashes to a kitchen unit that lee the
26:37landscaper has been busy building look what i found near the skip i wonder who left them there yeah
26:42some off course but it did give me an idea i thought these would make a really nice splash bag
26:47on the back of this outdoor kitchen which then ties in with a beautiful little metal roof yeah no
26:53fantastic and then my creative juices went really wild oh here we go but i've also got these
26:58have a look at those you've been in your garage again they have so i thought these could go in the
27:03middle and then we could have one paver each side so you can put the pizza oven hot things down maybe
27:09some cocktail glasses and it suddenly ties everything together there i like that yeah sounds like a good
27:14plan right i've got a lot to do so uh i'll get ready for tiling brilliant thank you thank you
27:19lee's attaching vertical posts to create a top shelf for the unit
27:27tightening it all up in it there so i'll just run a few across here there's not gonna be nothing really
27:35once built up he attaches an initial layer of cement board for the worktop and positions it
27:42oh look at that it's like a little picture frame with a bit of ivy in and lee gets his creative juices
27:51flowing to create a second tiled layer to the worktop oh look at that we're suddenly looking rather high
28:01at the end i think like it oh this looks like you're getting close towards completion we're getting
28:10there yeah one more shelf to do with these to fasten on
28:15it was lee's vision for the central dining area that convinced lottie and mead to opt for his design
28:22it would be amazing if we could go out there and feel like we're um part of a an al fresco dining area
28:30like these places we like to visit and travel and what make us relax whether that is a street in
28:35northern quarter in manchester or that's a site street in palermo or amsterdam uh it'd be amazing
28:40to have that feeling and be able to sort of register that feeling at home just step out the back door and
28:47then you're transported to another place right coming through with most of the major design points in
28:55place lee and flo can start to consider the planting it's the last of them so sweet swim
29:05have we got enough plants i think so and we've got the hidden extras for the green chandelier as well
29:10yes but we've also got these little this is a real pocket garden for me just lots of little moments and
29:17what i'd love you to do is use your passion for color and start to plant up that bed nearer to the
29:23little arbor and i'm going to start this end and we'll meet somewhere in the middle sounds fantastic
29:27sounds great
29:43this bed is going to be a bed that transitions from this little pocket garden here into the main space
29:49and the plants in here will be repeated throughout the other beds in the garden so it's really an
29:54entry point in the garden for the colors and textures you're going to see elsewhere so it's
29:58really important that this one kind of opens the book on the planting
30:04that looks so much better i mean you've got the softness of the carex we've got the pop of purple and
30:11orange full of my leaf if you will
30:19i'm just getting ready to hang lee's chandelier so i'm just going to put four metal hooks in each
30:25corner then we've got four chains that come down to the chandelier which support the chandelier
30:31this is a bit of a wow piece for the garden so lee's got this really nice chandelier with lots of plants
30:37that hang over the edge so when you're sat here it's going to be nice and enclosed
30:46all done
30:50the chandelier is held to the pergola by chains and carabiners oh look at that there you go
30:57what do you yeah it's pretty snazzy that a bit industrial isn't it a bit put rock
31:02for lotty and mead i wanted to pick both unusual but pretty much bulletproof plants and this is a
31:12prime example it's our butters unido otherwise known as the strawberry tree and it's a fantastic
31:17evergreen slow growing shrub stroke tree now the beauty of the strawberry tree is it actually flowers
31:24in winter so when everything else is pretty much quiet this is going to have some gorgeous blooms but
31:29then those blooms stay on through spring until they form these tiny little fruits and that's where it
31:34gets its name the strawberry tree because these fruits develop and ripen throughout the year and
31:39turn into almost spherical strawberry-esque spiky fruits you can't eat them straight up the tree
31:45they're a bit like bullets they're really sour now if mead wants to cook with the strawberries if
31:50you harvest them in october time and then uses them in things like jellies and pickles you can take the
31:55sharpness out of them and make some beautiful jam
32:07lee's chandelier is a unique frame that'll hold planting to envelop lottie and mead as they relax
32:14at the pergola my vision was i wanted it to be relatively low force so if lots in me want to
32:19change the plants at any point they can do and i thought if we build a frame which you've kindly done for
32:23me these just slotting and look at that the colors on them nice easy peasy super glorious yeah
32:37so my new mysterious green chandelier uses these simple five liter pots recycled from the plants in
32:43the garden what i've done is cut out these small holes in the side to put in all sorts of creeping
32:48plants like this creeping jenny we've got all these other little ferns and plants that are going to
32:53dangle and hang there and just give a bit of interest now there's about 10 of these and i've
32:58got to arrange them carefully to make sure that they look their best so let's get that in there
33:05and do you know what i think that looks rather fantastic
33:23for me one of the best purple plants is this salvia salvia caradona garden designers love this plant
33:29because of its structure its uprightness and the fact that it flowers for so long it will keep
33:35flowering throughout the summer a little bit of deadheading to encourage new growth right through
33:42until the autumn so get yourself some salvia caradona and the bees will come the color will come and just a
33:52beautiful plant to have in your life we've got a rather unusual shade living plant brunnera that has
34:02these almost heart-shaped fairy leaves i'm just going to love those dappled shady areas near the fence and
34:08the wall but look at that little delicate blue flower it's almost like a forget-me-not isn't it yeah
34:12textured leaves
34:23now since flo's been having all that fun with the purple and orange plants in her section
34:27i've got a few beauties that are going to marry up perfectly but in a less brash way and one of them
34:32is this potentilla here now it's going to marry up with the totally tangerine gyms that i know flo is
34:38a big fan of because they're really bold and a great doer this potentilla is a little bit softer
34:44it's deciduous like the gym but it acts as a really great ground cover and it has leaves that look a bit
34:49like the strawberry plant so when you see them people often confuse them with young strawberries
34:54but when you take a look at the flower it's got almost an apricot coloration whereas the totally
35:00tangerine is really orange this is more pastel so it starts to soften things down if you've got
35:05part of the garden that's really brash and he's toning down then things like potentilla in a pastel
35:10color can help you achieve that now they're really tough they will happily spread and colonize these
35:15beds but i love potentilla because the flowers on these long stalks they can drift over raised beds
35:21you can poke them up through other plants and it means that you get great coverage from them
35:25and i think for lottie and me they're going to look at this and not really know what it is and i
35:29want that because i want them to investigate and research potentilla and then start to look at all
35:33sorts of other plant groups it's a really nice specimen to use that isn't as common as the gym
35:39but he's still going to give them that beautiful look and i'm sure when i check that with flo
35:43she's going to love this one too
35:56i found the spillers for the containers these are biden's or beggars tick and they're going to look
36:02absolutely wonderful just cascading over the side just nestling under the feet of the fatsia
36:07it's a really cute little plant and also fragrant as well this is a really nice welcome little tease
36:18as they come out of the house now the leaves are very sort of delicate looking a little bit coriander
36:24like i think it will trail over and just soften the side of this barrel here tying these three plants
36:33together and throughout the garden with all the main structures in place lee and flo are adding seating
36:50to the snug and finishing touches to the kitchen unit
36:58the team have worked hard to create a modern space perfect for alfresco dining at this edwardian terrace
37:05house in salford lottie and meads garden was once a weed ridden overgrown space with dangerously exposed
37:18decking and no privacy nor structure but with a five thousand pound budget
37:26it's been transformed into a striking sophisticated social space with definition and planting to die for
37:35right you're going to grab hold of your shoulder and pop you there and then lottie yeah i'm just
37:38going to feel bush here here here okay you can feel bush that's fine i can leave you both there
37:44right whenever you're ready open your eyes oh my wow oh my gosh it looks fantastic it's unrecognizable
37:56i don't know i'm gonna cry that's all right wow oh my gosh it's literally a different place yeah it looks
38:07amazing i absolutely love it this feels like a garden i have absolutely thank you so much do you think you
38:13can finally use it sorry don't apologize yeah i'm just absolutely blown away i can't wait to sit there
38:19with the dog and just oh it's like a little wonderland isn't it yeah oh she's crying such an emotional
38:29time for them we we knew you had vision but like this is this is fantastic it really does look amazing
38:36like there's there's not an aspect to this i don't love there really isn't that's so nice to hear it feels
38:41massive once greeted into their garden by a bland entrance they're now invited into an eclectic gateway
38:50defined by color contrasting planks and gravel and the planted containers the gray and the white again
38:57just sort of translated into here then into the kitchen and the orange wall just like takes me
39:01back to being on holiday yeah yeah and it just perfectly marries up with everything that's in the
39:06house already are we insulted i'm not sure they love it oh i'm so pleased so please what a great
39:15reaction i mean i wanted this part of the garden in particular to call to you from inside so when the
39:20blinds are open and you sat there it might just say come on let's come outside for a bit i have photos
39:25here with my friends it's kind of like a perfect backdrop yeah i'm absolutely blown away
39:31the center of the garden that was strewn with unsafe exposed decking is now embellished with
39:41checkerboard tiles a snug seating space and that bespoke kitchen unit perfect for cooking and hosting
39:48outside look at the herbs up there herbs it's stunning pizza oven it's gonna look beautiful i love the metal
39:54as well it's again a contrast with everything but sort of in the right way in a really toned down way
40:00and we've used the same papers that you've got on the floor on the top and also a few additional
40:04black and white checkerboards have a look i know you want to have a touch have a touch yeah
40:10it's just it's amazing the kitchen area what's not to love me is going to be so happy there i mean it's
40:17just a stunning piece of the garden but i know me you've just noticed this corrugated metal take a look
40:23up there at the roof of your little arbor again it sort of it mirrors the same design feature of the
40:30tiles here to the tiles there and the corrugated iron it reflects it up into there it's it's sort
40:35of like twinned up together i love it lottie and mead were unenthusiastic about the bland weed ridden
40:42back end of their garden but a pergola complete with lee's clever chandelier and long bench flanked
40:52by raised beds now make it a perfect space for unwinding or socializing with friends
40:58right so let's come and take a seat about three weeks ago we actually sat here and on our chairs
41:08and we just looked at all the rubbish around it was like oh my god this is hell and then now we're
41:14literally in the same position and it just feels completely different i mean one of the big changes
41:18actually is that step because the drop was so severe that it was really difficult to get up and
41:23down but lee the carpenter's built that really generous step so that bella can just waddle up
41:28without any effort whatsoever we glided up there you didn't even notice the high difference
41:34and what do you think of your pergola with your green chandelier i'm obsessed like screaming crying
41:40throwing up like i am literally that's how i feel i just think wow what what a feature what a
41:47conversational point like to be able to have friends come around sit down underneath it and be able to
41:52hear it feel it is just unbelievable so i'd love to claim that all of this is my own hard work but
41:59i did have help from my trusty co-designer flo flo are you coming in hello hi nice to meet you
42:08come and take a seat on our generous bench yeah yeah yeah do you love it absolutely it's stunning
42:16really didn't think it was going to be possible to turn what was our garden into what it is now so
42:22thank you both so much you've you've changed our whole living experience and the way our home will
42:27feel to us it's so welcome and this is just going to be a great space for you to take all of that style
42:31you've got inside and bring it outdoors absolutely i was so excited it feels like a new beginning
42:37this is the best thing i've ever seen in my life i didn't know whether to laugh cry i was so
42:46overwhelmed i just thought i can't believe this is our garden we knew lee had vision when he shared his
42:54drawing with us but then to see it brought to life away it has been i can't quite believe it was possible
43:00i think bella the dog is going to absolutely love this place so much space for it to sort of roam
43:05around we are embarrassed of this garden no longer and can't really wait to sort of show friends this
43:11space and enjoy it with them what do you think
43:25i love it i love it i love it
