Tommy Paul n'a rien pu faire contre Carlos Alcaraz.

00:19Yeah, I mean, not particularly fun.
00:22He played some great tennis, returned very well, had me on my back foot all the time.
00:28Playing so fast, you know, I mean, even on the changeovers, I felt like he was getting up with 20 seconds left.
00:34I was like, I've got to slow down, man.
00:37But, yeah, I mean, he's playing amazing tennis, obviously.
00:42Very comfortable here, defending champion, so I'm looking forward to watching the rest of this tournament.
00:49You've kind of been through the worst in this tournament.
00:51Just curious about how you're feeling physically and, yeah, after all you've done.
00:55I mean, I felt better, you know.
01:00I mean, today was just about, I mean, really, obviously I went into the match like I want to win the match.
01:09But pretty early on in the match, it was pretty obvious that I wasn't moving amazing.
01:15And, I mean, I was looking around.
01:18I didn't, everyone bought tickets in the night session.
01:23Everyone who was there deserved to see me play or try my best.
01:26And that's what I want to try to do.
01:29Is there extra pressure against the finishing match when you know you're the only match in that ticket?
01:33Sorry, what?
01:33Is there extra pressure to finish the match when you know you're the only match that people who bought this one match ticket got?
01:39Yeah, I mean, maybe a little bit, but, like, at the same time, I mean, I earned that moment to be playing that match in the quarterfinals here.
01:49And, obviously, I don't want it to go like that, but, you know, I deserve to play the whole match, and that's what I did.
01:57When Carlos is playing at that level, can you see anyone beating him at this corner?
02:01Um, I don't know.
02:04I mean, I think, you know, we've seen center really destroy people lately, and I guess today was Carlos' turn.
02:15So, I think both of them are playing at an extremely, extremely high level right now.
02:22What was it exactly that was going on?
02:24Was it a hamstring thing or a lot?
02:26Um, yeah, I mean, it's, like, my ab and my adductors.
02:34Yeah, I mean, just a couple of things.
02:36We're going to figure that out in the next couple of days.
02:39Will you be okay for Queens?
02:40Do you think you'll be okay to defend your title?
02:42I mean, that's the plan.
02:43I'm signed up for the tournament, and I'll go home and try and figure all that stuff out.
02:48You must be pretty proud of how you've made it to the quarterfinals, given that.
02:52I mean, that was an issue from earlier in the tournament, right?
02:54Yeah, I mean, I, you know, two sets down in the second round, I would be lying if I told you I thought I'd be here tonight.
03:02But, I mean, that's what I try to do the whole week is just, I mean, fight and extend matches.
03:10Today I tried, but like I said, Carlos was playing so quick and had me on my back foot the whole time.
03:16I felt like he was on offense, and that was not what I needed tonight.
03:20So, yeah, I mean, I'm proud of the week, and I did the best that I could with what I had tonight,
03:29and I'm wishing Carlos the best of luck for the rest of the tournament.
03:33What has the past, like, 13 months done for your confidence on clay, given what has it made?
03:41Yeah, I mean, it's been great for me.
03:43I've really, really enjoyed playing on clay.
03:46Hopefully next year I can play more tournaments.
03:48I might come over a little earlier.
03:50Like you said, I feel like I am pretty confident on the surface now.
03:54I don't feel like I'm an easy out for anybody, I mean, except Carlos today.
03:58But, yeah, I mean, I really enjoy playing on it.
04:03Last one.
04:04We're not just going that fast.
04:06Do you do anything to try to slow it down?
04:07You were talking about him getting up during changeovers.
04:09Are you looking at the clock and being like, I need this to last longer somehow?
04:12Yeah, 100%.
04:13How are you doing that?
04:14You know, just waiting for the chair on fire to say time before I actually get up.
04:19I mean, I felt like when I was sitting down, I'd look up at the clock,
04:23and there would only be like 20 seconds left, and Carlos would be running the other side already.
04:26So, I mean, I was really trying to, you know, if you look back, I mean,
04:31there were a couple times where I'm at the line ready to serve,
04:33and I'll just, like, wait 10 seconds, you know, maybe get him out of his rhythm a little bit.
04:37I mean, it's just little stuff that we all really do when we're playing someone
04:41who they seem like they're getting on a roll.
04:45You do whatever you can to try and get them off their game.
04:48And, I mean, it didn't work today, but it's worked plenty of times.
04:51So, I mean, I'm just, like I said, I'm happy to have played in the quarterfinals here,
04:58but right now I'm just focused on getting healthy and being ready for the grass court season.
05:03Thank you.
05:03Thank you.
05:04Thanks, guys.
05:05Thank you.
