Phil Smith and Jason Jones discuss a potential move to the Stadium of Light for Jordan Henderson.
Transcript
00:00Jordan Henderson. It's a story that has been
00:02doing the rounds for a while. It's a story that does not
00:04seem to be going anywhere.
00:05I mean, sort of taking out the equation
00:08whether it will happen
00:09or not, do you
00:11think that he would be a good addition
00:13to the Sunderland squad?
00:18Yeah, I think Sunderland
00:19needs a bit of Premier League experience.
00:21That's definitely one thing. I don't have a
00:23problem with them sticking to
00:25the model that they've
00:27implemented over the last few years, but
00:30even when you think of the team that did
00:32well in the first season of the Championship, it had
00:33Danny Barth, Alex Pritchard.
00:36It had that little smattering of players who knew
00:37the level, and so I think that's going
00:40to be important, again, going into the Premier League.
00:42I think it is important that you add some more
00:43leadership into that dressing room because
00:45it's potentially going to be tricky next season
00:47at times. There are going to be moments where
00:49it might feel really, really difficult, where
00:51you might be on a really poor run.
00:54Players who can handle that and know how to
00:55drag other players with them are going to be really important.
00:58Really hard for me to make a comment
00:59on what level Henderson
01:02is at at the moment because, as much as
01:04I would love to, I don't watch much
01:06Eredivisie, so I'm not really sure
01:08where his game's at. If it's
01:10the Henderson that we watched, you know,
01:11of years gone by, then of course he would add a
01:13massive amount to the midfield.
01:16I get the impression that
01:17it's something that would be welcomed by the
01:19vast majority of Sunderland fans
01:21from the initial feedback I can see.
01:24As we talked about going into the January
01:25window on this podcast, it's not quite the
01:27home run that it once would have been
01:30in terms of the mood
01:32because of that, you know, very
01:33controversial move to Saudi Arabia, and we talked
01:35about that at length at the time.
01:37So it's probably not quite the home run that it once would have been.
01:41But I certainly think
01:42he would add a lot on the pitch and in the dressing room.
01:43I don't think there's any doubt about that.
