Top R&D Institute Wins Big for Taiwan at 2025 Edison Awards

Taiwan won 18 prizes at the 2025 Edison Awards. Seven of those go to one of the country's top R&D institutes.

00:08The country's Industrial Technology Research Institute, or ETRI, is celebrating its seven

00:12wins at this year's Edison Awards.

00:15The institute took home prizes for innovations in areas like environmental sustainability,

00:20energy management, and medical technology.

00:23One of those inventions is a low-carbon laser that makes it easier, more energy-efficient,

00:28and more environmentally-friendly to create H-beams commonly used in construction.

00:33The process of cutting-edge is the most important part of the production line.

00:45One of the top-rated ETRI innovations at the Edison Awards this year is an underground leak

00:49detection system.

00:50It uses AI and sound waves to find leaks in underground plumbing systems.

00:56It's hailed as a game-changer because traditional leak detection is a labor-intensive and highly-specialized

01:03And that's not to mention its role in saving scarce water resources.

01:07E-tree isn't the only Taiwan institution that's won at this year's Edison Awards.

01:28Institutes like National Taiwan University and the Taiwan Textile Research Institute also took

01:34home prizes as well, proving that Taiwan's not only behind the components that go into

01:39groundbreaking innovations, but it's also very much an innovator in and of itself.
