Transcript
00:00Frank Ragnow just shocked everybody when he abruptly retired at the age of 29 and here's
00:05the three big things that you need to know about this retirement.
00:11Hi Mike Payton with A to Z Sports Detroit and here are the three big things you need to know
00:15about the Frank Ragnow retirement. First off this is what the Lions are going to save money wise
00:209.5 million dollars in 2025. They are going to have to eat 3.6 million dollars over the course
00:27of the next two seasons because of a bonus option that triggered in 2022. That's just the nature of
00:33the beast with some of these things but for the most part they're saving money on this whole thing.
00:38Second part don't expect there to be any sort of Calvin Johnson type situation where the Lions and
00:43Frank Ragnow are fighting. There is no money to take back. I mentioned that 3.6 million dollars
00:48consider that already paid out. That's the Lions can't go and take it back. There's nothing they
00:54can do. There's nothing they can take from Ragnow. This will result in a good situation.
00:59There's always going to be a good relationship there. He's already praised the Lions for how well
01:04they've been taking this whole thing and how they've worked with him through the whole process
01:08which kind of points to the fact that this has been probably something he's been thinking about
01:12for a while. So don't expect any contention there. That's a big one. And then there's the third part.
01:18The Lions have kind of already been preparing for this, haven't they?
01:20They drafted Tate Ratledge in the second round. They drafted Miles Frazier in the fourth round.
01:25They talked at the league meetings about how they have a lot of confidence in Graham Glasgow's
01:30versatility. They've kind of been telling us this whole time a little bit that they were planning
01:36that this was going to happen. They've already started to cross-train Ratledge at center.
01:41They're going to cross-train Miles Frazier at center. We know Graham Glasgow could play center
01:45because anytime Ragnow was hurt, that's what they would do. They would have Glasgow move into that spot.
01:49So the guys that they have to replace Ragnow are probably already here and that includes the guys
01:55of the future. So that probably means the Lions are going to be out there drafting a center in the
02:002026 NFL draft because I think they already have their guys. So we'll see where that goes.
02:05Training camp's starting up pretty soon. We're going to see what the Lions' plans are.
02:09But right now, I think the guy's already here and honestly, I think his name's Tate Ratledge.
02:14But we'll see. And let me know what you guys think about all this in the comments below.
02:19And we'll talk to you next time.
