00:27President Marcos orders the temporary suspension of the EDSA Rehabilitation Plan.
00:33Ukraine and Russia launch major drone battles ahead of peace talks.
00:38And Miss Philippines' Krishna Gravides is named Miss World Asia 2025.
00:46Senator Rizón Tiveros says she is alarmed by the delays in Vice President Sara Duterte's impeachment trial.
00:52This after Senate President Cheese Escudero postponed the reading of the Articles of Impeachment from June 2 to June 11.
00:59June 11 is the last session day of the 19th Congress before its Sina Día adjournment.
01:04Nakakabahala na ang paulit-ulit na antala sa proseso ng impeachment trial.
01:11Buwan na ang binibilang natin.
01:13Sobra-sobra na ang paghihintay ng mga Pilipino.
01:16Let us all hope this is the last delay.
01:19We owe it to the Filipino people to convene as an impeachment court and begin the proceedings at the soonest possible time.
01:28In a press conference, Escudero said the convening of the impeachment court remains uncertain as senators may file a motion in the plenary to oppose it.
01:37The situation is particularly tricky as some senators have expressed their opposition to the impeachment trial, particularly those allied with Duterte.
01:45Antiveros says any further delays in the trial would violate the Constitution.
01:49Hindi kapag ready na, hindi kapag convenient, kundi shall forthwith proceed.
01:57Huwag naman sana yang baliwalain.
01:59For his part, Escudero said those who think the postponement violates the Constitution may file a case with the Supreme Court.
02:06The House of Representatives impeached Duterte on February 5, Congress' last session day before taking a three-month break for the elections.
02:14The articles of impeachment were transmitted to the Senate late that afternoon, but the Senate adjourned without touching it.
02:23President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. instructs newly appointed Police Chief General Nicolás Torre III to resume hunting small-time drug peddlers.
02:32This is a return to Duterte-style tactics and a backtrack on his posturing to the international community.
02:37Patuloy din kayong magmatyag sa ating mga komunidad para kahit ang small-time ng mga drug dealers ay wala ring ligtas.
02:48Marcos first announced this on May 19 in a podcast he launched, following his Senate-slate disastrous performance in the midterm elections.
02:55This is a U-turn from the administration's commitments to harm reduction, which aim to address drug use as a health and social issue that needs more thoughtful response than just law enforcement.
03:07Both Marcos and Torres said their campaign will not be abusive.
03:10File affidavits, execute warrants, bring criminals to justice, raise your hands in front of judges and fiscals, and provide evidence against these criminals to support their conviction, and you will be recognized and rewarded.
03:30Of course, I have to reiterate that all of these actions must be done within the ambit of the law, evidence-based, and rights-respecting.
03:40President Marcos, on Sunday, June 1, ordered a temporary suspension of the EDSA rehabilitation project.
03:47It was supposed to begin on June 13 and would have used an odd-even system to limit vehicle access to the metro's main road.
03:55Marcos said the government would create a better plan to finish the repairs in six months to a year, instead of three years.
04:01He acknowledged that while EDSA does need rehabilitation, the current plan would cause too much inconvenience and heavy traffic.
04:07Marcos said there are now new technologies that were not considered in the original EDSA rehabilitation plan, so he instructed Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon and Public Works Secretary Mani Bonoan to pause the project for now.
04:21The president, however, did not give a specific date of when the rehabilitation would resume.
04:26Besides that, he is giving the review process a month.
04:29With the entire project on hold, the Metro Manila Development Authority said the odd-even scheme has been cancelled too.
04:38Ukraine and Russia escalated their conflict with major drone attacks on Sunday, June 1, ahead of anticipated peace talks on Monday, June 2.
04:47A Ukrainian intelligence official said Ukraine attacked Russian long-range bombers stationed at a military base deep in Siberia.
04:54The bombers could carry nuclear weapons.
04:56Ukraine's intelligence agency confirmed it carried out the attack, called Operation Spider's Web, which had been planned for over a year and a half.
05:05It said the attack also damaged 41 Russian warplanes, as well as 34% of Russia's strategic cruise missile carriers.
05:12Ukraine's Air Force said Russia launched 472 drones and seven missiles at Ukraine overnight.
05:18At least seven people were killed and 69 were hurt when a highway bridge in Russia's Bryonsk region was blown up as a passenger train was passing.
05:27There were 388 people on the train.
05:29No one has claimed responsibility for this attack.
05:32President Volodymyr Zelenskyy praised Ukraine's offensive, saying it used 117 drones and was Ukraine's longest-range operation done without outside help.
05:42Ukraine's defense minister is set to meet Russian officials on Monday for a second round of direct peace talks in Istanbul, Turkey.
05:51The Philippines' Krishna Gravides was named Miss World Asia during an offstage announcement after the pageant broadcast on Sunday, June 1.
05:59Thailand's Opa Sushata Xiongzi earlier won the Miss World 2025 crown in the pageant held in Telanggana, India.
06:08Gravides made it to the top eight but failed to reach the final four, whose only Asia slot went to the Thai candidate.
06:14But with Miss Thailand winning the top crown, Miss Philippines rose to claim the Asia title, a first for the country.
06:21The Miss World Philippines organization praised Gravides in a social media post and thanked her for making history.
06:27It's said she had shown the world the heart, spirit, and strength of a true Filipina.
06:33Gravides had hoped to become the second Filipina to win Miss World after Megan Young in 2013.
06:38Still, it was the country's best Miss World finish since 2019 when Michelle D reached the top 12.
06:44And that's today's wrap.
06:48I'm Cara Oliver.
