00:13He's just minutes into his speech when shots are fired.

02:29He is armed with an AR-15 semi-automatic rifle.
02:33The gun was legally purchased by his father.
02:35First, he apparently fires a round of three shots.

02:44The first bullet pierces the upper part of his right ear.
02:47He will later say that turning over to the right at that exact moment
02:50prevented the bullet from hitting him right in the head.
02:52He ducks down behind the podium, and within three to four seconds after the first shot,
02:57Secret Service agents swarm the former president and shield him with their bodies.
03:01Crooks opens fire again, immediately, with five more shots.
03:05Right before the first shot by Crooks, one of the snipers on the left roof behind Trump
03:12seems to detect the gunman and prepares to return fire.

03:18Some outlets report that these snipers killed Crooks,
03:22while the Secret Service confirmed its personnel neutralized the shooter.
03:24We could not corroborate that it was in fact these specific agents.

05:00Analysis on X suggests that at least the snipers on the roof behind Trump were likely scouting
05:05for dangers further away, with this rooftop possibly falling into the responsibility of other law
05:10enforcement agents.
05:11We were unable to corroborate that.
05:14Why couldn't armed men climb up on this building?
05:17What was Crooks' motive?
05:18The gunman had no criminal history in Pennsylvania's public court records.
05:22The New York Times found a voter registration record for Crooks.
05:25It shows that he was registered as a Republican.
05:27They also found that he donated $15 to a liberal voter turnout group through a Democratic donation
05:32platform in 2021.
05:34He was a kitchen worker and had a membership at a local shooting club.
05:38The FBI found suspicious devices in both his car and home.
05:41They are being evaluated by the agency at the time of this recording.
05:45The investigation is ongoing and new information is being published by the minute.

05:55The picture of Trump, bloodied but defiant, with a raised fist in front of the American
