Agankast was a heavy metal band based in the Scottish Borders, active from 2005 to 2007. The group was formed by Rob Matthew Redhead (also known as Rob Redhead), a guitarist previously associated with the 1980s thrash metal band Atomkraft. After a failed reunion attempt with former Atomkraft members in 2004, Redhead decided to channel his energy into a new project, leading to the creation of Agankast.
The band's lineup included Redhead on guitar, Allan Scott on vocals and bass, Ciaran Wright on guitar, and Drew Gill on drums. Agankast's music was characterized by a blend of thrash and death metal influences, reflecting Redhead's desire to evolve beyond his previous work. Their debut album, Dance of the Dead, was recorded and mixed by Redhead at his home Studio in Northumberland, England.
In 2006, Agankast gained significant exposure by securing a spot at the Bloodstock Open Air Festival, a prominent UK metal event held at Catton Hall in Derbyshire. This performance marked a milestone in the band's brief career, showcasing their commitment to the heavy metal scene.
Despite their potential, Agankast disbanded in late 2007. Redhead cited personal reasons for his departure, including the band's evolving dynamics and his desire to pursue other interests. Before disbanding, they recorded a double album titled Walking with Angels, Running with Devils, which featured Redhead's compositions on one disc and Allan Scott's on the other.
Agankast's legacy remains a testament to the vibrant underground metal scene in the Scottish Borders during the mid-2000s. Their brief but impactful presence left an impression on fans and the local music community.
