Transcript
00:00Thank you very much.
00:02I think we've done a lot of good work
00:05over the last couple of days.
00:06Being at West Point yesterday was incredible,
00:10what incredible people they are.
00:12And I think it was a very big success,
00:14and it was an honor to be there.
00:16Very importantly, we had some very good talks
00:20with Iran yesterday and today, and let's see what happens.
00:23But I think we could have some good news on the Iran front.
00:29Likewise with Hamas on the — on Gaza.
00:35We want to see if we can stop that.
00:36And Israel, we've been talking to them,
00:38and we want to see if we can stop that whole situation
00:41as quickly as possible.
00:43But having to do with nuclear,
00:46we've had some very, very good talks with Iran.
00:49And I don't know if I'll be telling you anything good
00:52or bad over the next two days,
00:53but I have a feeling I might be telling you something good.
00:56We've had some real progress, serious progress.
01:00On any other front — I don't know.
01:02Do you have any questions?
01:03The Pressure Do you have a message for the Senate?
01:06A lot of Republicans have said there are going to be
01:08significant changes to the budget bill.
01:10The President Well, I want the Senate
01:12and the senators to change, you know,
01:14to make the changes they want.
01:16And we'll go back to the House,
01:17and we'll see if we can get them.
01:19In some cases, those changes maybe are something
01:21I'd agree with, to be honest.
01:23You know, it happens.
01:24But we've had a very good response from the Senate.
01:27And I don't know how Democrats can't vote for it.
01:29If they don't vote for it,
01:30they're talking about a 68 percent tax increase.
01:34Remember that.
01:35If the Democrats don't vote,
01:36it's a 68 percent tax increase, which is ridiculous.
01:40And one of the things that's being covered indirectly
01:44is the fact that we'll be lowering the cost of drugs
01:47from 50 to 85 percent under Trump.
01:51And it's going to have indirectly something to do,
01:54not directly, but indirectly,
01:56something to do with the bill.
01:59The one big, beautiful bill.
02:00And it is a big, beautiful bill.
02:02And so I think the Senate is going to get there.
02:05I hope they're going to get there.
02:07I think they're going to have changes.
02:08Some will be minor and some will be, you know,
02:11fairly significant.
02:12But we've been working with the House all the way up.
02:15They've been working together.
02:17And the Speaker has been working with the leader of the Senate.
02:21And, you know, they've done a great job.
02:23John Thune and Mike Johnson have done a fantastic job.
02:27They've been working together all the way up.
02:28So hopefully that'll be fine.
02:31The Press Press.
02:31The Press Press.
02:33The Press Press.
02:34The Press Press.
02:36The President.
02:36The President.
02:39No, I was surprised.
02:41I didn't know exactly.
02:42I just read about it just like you did,
02:44having to do with Andrew.
02:45I've known Andrew and we've had an on-off relationship.
02:49He was saying the greatest things about me.
02:51I'm the greatest President, et cetera.
02:53And then the next day it hit us.
02:55But I did a lot for them.
02:56I brought in the ship during the COVID crisis.
03:00I brought in the Mercy ship.
03:03And I built about 3,000 units in the Javits Convention Center.
03:06And he didn't use them.
03:08I don't understand it.
03:09He wanted them, but he didn't use them.
03:10But I hope it's going to be okay.
03:12I hope it's not going to be serious for them.
03:16Let's see what happens.
03:17The Press Press.
03:18You spoke to European Commission President von der Leyen.
03:21Did you discuss the 50 percent tariffs?
03:23And did you agree to produce those?
03:26The President.
03:26The President.
03:26The President.
03:27The President.
03:28She just called me, as you know.
03:29And she asked for an extension on the June 1st date.
03:31And she said she wants to get down to serious negotiation
03:35because I told you specifically.
03:38I told anybody that would listen.
03:41They have to do that.
03:43And we had a very nice call.
03:44And I agreed to move it, I believe, June 9th would be.
03:47July 9th would be the date.
03:49That was the date she requested.
03:50Could we move it from June 1st to July 9th?
03:53And I agreed to do that.
03:54And that she said, we will rapidly get together
03:57and see if we can work something out.
03:59The Press Press.
04:00You announced on Friday about U.S. Steel and Nippon Steel.
04:04The President.
04:04What will the ownership structure look like?
04:06What made you try to find something?
04:08The President.
04:08I think it will be controlled by the United States.
04:10Otherwise, I wouldn't make the deal.
04:12I went to the unions.
04:13To the all of the local unions.
04:15They all wanted it.
04:17And I'm doing it because all of the congressmen came in,
04:20about five of them, and the others, I understand,
04:23are in concurrence.
04:25And they ask that I do it.
04:27Everybody seems to want it.
04:29And we'll see.
04:30I mean, you know, we'll see what the final is.
04:32They're going to invest millions of dollars in steel,
04:35and it's a good company.
04:37Nissan is a very good company.
04:38We'll see.
04:39But it's an investment, and it's a partial ownership,
04:42but it'll be controlled by the U.S.A.
04:44The Press.
04:45President Trump, on Saudi Arabia,
04:46you paid back with a lot of investments.
04:49There's an American who's stuck there
04:51and facing a trial for tweets.
04:53His family wants you to intervene
04:55and ask the Crown Prince to let him go.
04:57What do you think about that?
04:58The President Trump, I haven't heard about it at all.
04:59Have you given me the information?
05:01On the plane.
05:01Are you on the plane?
05:03Give me the information.
05:04I'll see what I can do.
05:05Do you think he's okay?
05:06The President Trump, I'm a reporter.
05:07I can't tell you.
05:08The President Trump, are you giving a recommendation?
05:10The President Trump, no, I'm not.
05:10Okay.
05:11The President Trump, then maybe I won't do it.
05:12I don't know.
05:13Tell me.
05:14The way you posed the question,
05:15I thought you assumed it was okay.
05:18What did he do, supposedly?
05:19The President Trump, he sent some political tweets
05:21about Saudi Arabian politics.
05:23The President Trump, were they bad?
05:24The President Trump, he said he approved of naming a street,
05:26renaming a street in D.C.
05:28It was fairly innocent stuff by American standards.
05:31Let me take a look.
05:33The Press, can you provide us an update on Russia
05:36and Ukraine as well?
05:38The President Trump, I'll give you an update.
05:39I'm not happy with what Putin is doing.
05:41He's killing a lot of people.
05:42And I don't know what the hell happened to Putin.
05:44I've known him a long time.
05:46Always gotten along with him.
05:48But he's sending rockets into cities and killing people.
05:51And I don't like it at all.
05:53Okay?
05:54We're in the middle of talking, and he's shooting rockets
05:57into Kyiv and other cities.
05:58I don't like it at all.
06:00The Press, Mr. President, what do you want to do about that?
06:02The President Trump, I'm surprised.
06:03I'm very surprised.
06:04We'll see what we're going to do.
06:05What am I going to tell you?
06:07You're the fake news, aren't you?
06:08You're totally fake.
06:10All right, any other questions?
06:11I don't like what Putin is doing.
06:13Not even a little bit.
06:14He's killing people.
06:16And something happened to this guy, and I don't like it.
06:18Go ahead.
06:19The Press, can I follow up on that?
06:21A Russian commander reportedly said that Putin was almost caught
06:26in the middle of a drone attack from the Ukraine.
06:28So do you have any response?
06:29The President Trump, I haven't heard that,
06:31but maybe that would be a reason.
06:34I don't know, but I have not heard that.
06:35The Press, Secretary Hexf's acting chief of staff is a Biden
06:40administration holdover who has said some very critical things
06:44about you and Vice President Vance.
06:46Are there your thoughts on that?
06:47The President Trump, who is the chief of staff?
06:49The Press, Ricky Faria.
06:50I have no idea who he is, but if he did say that,
06:52I would recommend that we don't take him.
06:55I mean, if he did say something like that,
06:57I would recommend we don't take him.
06:59But let's see.
07:00I'll take a look.
07:01Faria, I'll check it out.
07:03Yeah.
07:04The Press, on Harvard, do you think you'll come
07:06for their endowment in any way or go after
07:08financial aid?
07:09The President Trump, look, part of the problem with
07:12Harvard is that there are about 31 percent, almost 31
07:15percent of foreigners coming to Harvard.
07:18We give them billions of dollars, which is ridiculous.
07:21We do grants, which we're probably not going to be
07:23doing much grants anymore to Harvard.
07:26But they're 31 percent.
07:27But they refuse to tell us who the people are.
07:30We want to know who the people are.
07:31Now, a lot of the foreign students, we wouldn't have
07:33a problem with.
07:34I'm not going to have a problem with foreign students.
07:36But it shouldn't be 31 percent.
07:38It's too much, because we have Americans that want to go
07:40there and to other places, and they can't go there,
07:44because you have 31 percent foreign.
07:46Now, no foreign government contributes money to Harvard.
07:50We do.
07:51So why are they doing so many?
07:52Number one.
07:53Number two, we want a list of those foreign students,
07:56and we'll find out whether or not they're okay.
07:58Many will be okay, I assume.
08:00And I assume, with Harvard, many will be bad.
08:04And then the other thing is they're very anti-Semitic.
08:07Everybody knows they're anti-Semitic.
08:09And that's got to stop immediately.
08:11The Presser, Secretary, who are you in?
08:13The New York Post.
08:14The President, I like the New York Post.
08:17I like Keith Poole.
08:19Okay.
08:20The Presser, Secretary.
08:21The President, I'm going to be nicer to him.
08:22I didn't know who was going to.
08:23Go ahead.
08:24The Presser, Secretary, Besson has said that we don't
08:26need to return textile manufacturing to the United States.
08:29How do you see, like, a lot of your reciprocal tariffs
08:32are pretty big on those low-income countries?
08:34The President, I tend to agree.
08:35We're not looking to make sneakers and T-shirts.
08:39We want to make military equipment.
08:41We want to make big things.
08:42We want to make, do the AI thing with the computers
08:45and the many, many, many, many elements.
08:49But the textile, you know, I'm not looking to make
08:53T-shirts, to be honest.
08:54I'm not looking to make socks.
08:56We can do that very well at other locations.
08:58We are looking to do chips and computers and lots of
09:02other things, and tanks and ships, meaning ships, yeah.
09:07The Presser, Secretary, you mentioned you were happy
09:09with the talks with Iran.
09:10Will there be another round of talks soon?
09:13The President, very soon.
09:13Iran, the Iran talks.
09:16I can't tell you what's going to happen tomorrow.
09:19I can tell you the Iran talks have been going very well.
09:21The Presser, Secretary, and you said you're unhappy.
09:23The President, I'd love that to happen because I'd love to see
09:27no bombs dropped and a lot of people dead.
09:31I really would like to see that happen.
09:32And I think there's a good chance that it could happen.
09:35The Presser, Secretary, you mentioned you're
09:36unhappy with President Putin.
09:37You've talked before about putting more sanctions on Russia.
09:40Is that something you're considering more true?
09:43The President, absolutely.
09:44He's killing a lot of people.
09:46I don't know what's wrong with him.
09:47What the hell happened to him, right?
09:50He's killing a lot of people.
09:51I'm not happy about that.
09:53Go ahead, what else?
09:54Anything else?
09:55The Presser was just a person arrested for attempting
09:58to a plot in Israel to throw Molotov cocktails
10:03at a U.S. embassy office in Tel Aviv.
10:05The President, the person also reported,
10:07ladies and gentlemen,
10:08a German U.S. citizen issued threats against your life.
10:12The President, against my life?
10:13The Presser, Secretary, against your life.
10:14Yes, sir.
10:16The President, we've got a lot of them around.
10:17We've got a lot of sick people around.
10:18Thank you very much, everybody.
10:19The Presser, Secretary, thank you.
