00:08during a crucial time in the nation's sporting history.

00:11As an all-rounder known for his explosive batting, handy medium-paced bowling, and bold

00:16presence on the field, Adarion Kuiper became a key figure during South Africa's return

00:21to international cricket after years of isolation.

00:25Although widely known for his big hitting exploits, Adarion Kuiper was also a skillful, medium-paced

00:31baller, who often provided his team with valuable breakthroughs.

00:35One of his career best bowling performances came on April 7, 1992, during the first ODI

00:41against the mighty West Indies at Spina Park in Kingston, Jamaica.

00:45In that match, Kuiper bowled a tight and clever spell, picking up three wickets for just 33

00:51runs in five overs.

04:21a South African XI and a Rebel English XI.

04:25In a breathtaking display of hitting, a Darien Kuyper blasted an astonishing 117 runs of just

04:32Steering through the English bowling attack with these, that innings announced his arrival

04:36as one of the most dangerous hitters in the South African side.

04:40Unfortunately, due to South Africa's long political isolation from international sports,

04:45a Darien Kuyper official international debut was delayed until he was 32 years old.

04:51Many believe that if he had debuted earlier, he could have had a much longer and even more

04:56impactful international career.

04:58Still, he made the most of the chances that came his way.

05:01When South Africa was admitted to world cricket in 1991, a Darien Kuyper was included in the

05:08spot for the historic ODI series against India.

05:11In the first-ever ODI played by the post-isolation South African team, a Darien Kuyper played a

05:17crucial role.

05:18He scored a brisk 43 runs, starting cautiously but then unleashing his trademark big hits, including

05:24one massive six that had the Eden Garden crowds in Kolkata on their feet.

05:29That innings alone won him admiration from fans around the world.

05:33He also took the key wickets of Kapil Dev, a legendary Indian all-rounder, further providing

05:38his value to the team.

05:39For a short time, a Darien Kuyper even served as a vice captain of the South African side,

06:45Kuyper went barest, smashing 26 runs in a single over a fast bowler Greg McDermott, including

06:51three consecutive sixes.

06:52It was vintage Kuyper, aggressive, fearless, and match-changing.

06:56In his final ODIS appearance in 1996, Kuyper signed off with a solid 61 runs against England

07:02at Port Elizabeth.

07:03However, due to the growing concerns about his age and fitness, he was not selected for

07:08the 1996 Cricket World Cup.

07:16Throughout his career, Darien Kuyper was often compared to English great all-rounder Ian

07:32balls, including eight sixes and eight fours, reaching his century in only 48 deliveries,

07:38was described by fellow South African Darrell Cullinan as the best one-day hunter he had

07:44ever seen.

07:45Today, Adrian Kuyper lives a peaceful life as a former in Western Cape.
