00:00:00Welcome to the football show on PLZ Soccer's YouTube channel, I'm Peter Martin, Alan Ruff
00:00:09and Tam McManus are here with me, delighted you could join us as we get ready for the
00:00:13Scottish Cup final at Hampden Park on Saturday, really looking forward to discussing that,
00:00:19there's so much to discuss on the programme today, of course the second leg of the play-off
00:00:24is well worthy of our consideration as well as movers and shakers across Scottish football,
00:00:30it is quite simply the game that just keeps on giving, listen I'm going to quickly go
00:00:37over things that are breaking as we speak and then of course there are other things
00:00:42we're going to talk about in this programme but first of all Michael Vimmer has decided
00:00:47enough is enough, he's offered his resignation to Motherwell because quite simply he wants
00:00:54to be closer to home, some of his family have health issues and he's accepted a job with
00:01:00a club called Jan Regensburg who are in the third tier of the Bundesliga because basically
00:01:06it's about 40 minutes away from his family, he wants to go back home for those reasons
00:01:12and his 12 week reign at Motherwell is over Ruff, your immediate reaction?
00:01:16Shocked obviously because any time he was interviewed he was very happy, he liked Motherwell,
00:01:22he liked the players, he liked the way they played, the enthusiasm they showed but it
00:01:26just shows you that it doesn't matter who you are, family comes first and if you've
00:01:31got a bit of a problem at home you need to be there with your family and it's not a football
00:01:36decision it's a family one.
00:01:38I cannot believe that whole situation there, I'll tell you one thing that was really good
00:01:44having spoken to sources at Motherwell, it's really good that they've got it at the end
00:01:49of the season where they've got a chance for a new manager to come in, understand the ethos
00:01:54of the club, understand the financial situation, the strategy moving forward and then hopefully
00:02:01dovetail the budget with what the manager wants to bring in, whoever that man may be,
00:02:07we're only about 35 seconds away from suggesting Malcolm McKay and Neil Lennon, good lads, great lads.
00:02:16No listen I'm like Ruffy, I'm shocked at that but listen family comes first, he's a long
00:02:22way from home and if people in his close family are having health issues then the best thing
00:02:27for him to do is to go back home and Motherwell just have to go and look for a new manager
00:02:31at the right time of the season, Motherwell kept him safe, I don't think he was great,
00:02:36I don't think he was rubbish, I think he was probably just okay and the Motherwell
00:02:40fans would have been looking forward to a summer under him maybe getting some players
00:02:43over from maybe Austria and Germany and leagues that he knows so yeah listen I think the Motherwell
00:02:48fans will be disappointed but you're right, it's the right end of the season, they've
00:02:51got all summer to go and look for a new manager and that's a couple of vacancies now up for
00:02:57grabs and Motherwell will come on up so done D, so there's plenty of jobs for people if
00:03:03they're looking for them. I don't know, I'm reading your mind right now thinking oh if
00:03:10Tony Doherty could be a Motherwell job, when you consider some of the players and some
00:03:15of the former managers are out there, Robbie Nielsen's looking for a job, there's all sorts
00:03:19of managers, Barry Smith was in here the other day on the Footballers Football Show, there'll
00:03:23be many many applicants Ruffy, you have been on a board where quite simply on a Monday
00:03:28morning there's 50 applications. Yeah, yeah you've got to sift through them, you obviously
00:03:34narrow them down as quick as possible, sometimes you get an idea who it is going to be, everybody
00:03:39has different views on what kind of manager they want but you're right there's a lot of
00:03:43guys out there who will be firing in their envelopes and I'm sure, any time we heard
00:03:48that any clubs were wanting jobs it was like 40, 50, just not the ones that run off the
00:03:53top of your head but certainly there is enough people out there and Partick Thistle as well.
00:03:59So many jobs up for grabs at the moment, listen there's a great line here on our feed says
00:04:07the boys are only moments away from pushing Barry Ferguson for this job. It's a situation
00:04:15which again, if anybody's criticising Motherwell I think they're being really harsh about it
00:04:21because I am led to believe that Motherwell really pulled out all the stops to try to
00:04:26obviously accommodate his family, accommodate getting them over here, trying to make Michael
00:04:32Vimmer feel as welcome as possible and feel at home with all the family needs and if there
00:04:39was any kind of health issues across there, they were going to be very accommodating in
00:04:44allowing him to make journeys back. So I think they pulled out all the stops, I don't think
00:04:49there's any need to apportion any blame here, it's just a case of simply turning around
00:04:56and saying okay, the circumstances are this and we just have to move on now and look for
00:05:02a candidate. They're not at this moment ruling out maybe looking for another foreign manager
00:05:08but they'll have to review that listing quickly. Yeah, we thought outside the box we were getting
00:05:14Michael Vimmer in, he was a name that no one had mentioned, a name that no one had probably
00:05:18heard of to be honest and they got him in so they might go down that road again or listen
00:05:23there are managers out of work at the minute, I'm sure Kettlewell's out of work with Degavac,
00:05:28probably not, but there's Tony Docherty's out of work, guys like Neil Lennon, so listen
00:05:34there's guys out there, Steve and Naismith who are all getting linked to jobs who I think
00:05:38would interest Motherwell as well so listen it depends what the board want to do. It's
00:05:42not worked out and it's nothing to do with results, it's just a family reason and that
00:05:46can happen in football but yeah I think that they will sift through as Ruffey says, people
00:05:52are applying for the job from near and far and they'll try and get the best candidate
00:05:57again but whether they go down the foreign route again or not remains to be seen.
00:06:02Yeah, there's so many jobs. We don't want to be in a downer but we always have a go at
00:06:05Tam for all his pals getting sacked, I think if you have a serious think about the managers
00:06:10who are looking for a job, they've all been on our show in the last year, Tony Docherty,
00:06:18Kettlewell, Stevie Rowland, Barry was with us, Neil Lennon, try not to put the kiss of
00:06:29death on anybody coming on the show Ruffey. Stuart Kettlewell still remains front runner
00:06:34for the Kilmarnock job although I am told that the suggestion that the deal's done and
00:06:39dusted is a little bit premature because he's one of six people that they've been interviewing.
00:06:44The Dundee job's still up there, Temuri Ketsbaya, there's a name from the past,
00:06:48he's thrown his name into the hat for the Dundee job although Sean Maloney still remains
00:06:52front runner on that one. The managerial merry-go-round is amazing and a West Coast
00:06:58Don says here, another manager gone, some pundits suggesting Tallinn ain't working
00:07:03out, not necessarily on this show, so when do we stop sacking our losing managers and
00:07:08giving them time to build like Manchester United did with Sir Alex Ferguson? Well it's
00:07:12beginning to look as if that is just a tale from a bygone era now that you stick with
00:07:17him. Hibbs did stick with David Graeber, I think they'd boxed themselves in by their
00:07:22approach to previous managers but with regards to Jimmy Tallinn, and we're going to talk
00:07:27about the cup final shortly, the only people that will become unhappy with Jimmy Tallinn
00:07:35are Aberdeen fans who would voice it to Dave Cormack but I'm led to believe in very good
00:07:39authority having spoken to people in the Aberdeen camp, they're sticking with him, regardless
00:07:45of the cup final, you obviously don't want an absolute battering but they're sticking
00:07:52with Jimmy Tallinn, it's fifth place in the league table, it's not great, they go into
00:07:57the cup final and then next year he gets a full summer of trying to recruit his own players
00:08:01and that basically is what many a manager wants, maybe a couple of transfer windows
00:08:06to build his own side? Yeah I think he's been heavily backed at Aberdeen as well Peter,
00:08:09I think he's obviously had the summer window, the January window, they've just signed a
00:08:13guy from the A-league as well for a few quid so I think he'll be there in the summer as
00:08:18well so the manager's been backed and it's up to him to produce results for Aberdeen
00:08:24but yeah you're right I think it's just because Aberdeen started so well that the fans had
00:08:28real aspirations of them maybe going and splitting the old firm and stuff like that and the second
00:08:33half of the season fell away, from November onwards we're probably bottom two in terms
00:08:36of results so yeah I think they've got to give him the summer and bring some more players
00:08:41in, get some more quality in and see where they go next season but I don't think that
00:08:45Jimmy Tallinn will be under any pressure regardless of the result in the cup final because getting
00:08:50to a cup final, getting Aberdeen into fifth is a good building, we'll look for them for
00:08:55next season. Okay and Graeme says I like Tam's, is it, Muckert, yeah Muckert golf shirt,
00:09:03my mum and dad live next to the golf course says Graeme, we know that Graeme because obviously
00:09:09Tam nipped in there because in East Kilbride boy your mum and dad left the back door open
00:09:14and Tam's got away with two tellies and a microwave.
00:09:16So, Ruffey another one which should make you feel terrible, Craig Gordon signs a new one
00:09:24year extension. Ruffey you can still be playing, you've got to make a comeback Ruffey, he's 42.
00:09:31He's actually looked after himself. What happened to you? I just left it, it's just gone,
00:09:36I think it's great you know I've said all along I hope his injury clears up, I do want him to
00:09:42challenge Jim Layton's cap record, I think if he hadn't had all these injuries he wouldn't have
00:09:48been far away from it but he's signed for another year, that would be another maybe eight or nine
00:09:53internationals and obviously World Cups coming up as well. How many is he behind now, Jim Layton,
00:09:57how many caps is he behind? I'm not sure, I think he's only about 15 or something like that.
00:10:00Was Jim Layton not 92 caps? 92, he's 92 I think, I think Craig's on maybe 70 something.
00:10:06He's not going to get that. Well I don't know the World Cups coming up or the qualifiers.
00:10:1143, you need to play to 45 to get to 92. No, you get about 10 a year.
00:10:15Would you like to see him breaking Jim Layton? Yeah I do, yeah I do.
00:10:17Why's that, because you don't like Jim? Because I think Craig's a bit of a rough deal,
00:10:21no injuries you know, and he's a nice person, he's not boring.
00:10:25Yeah, let's not mock Jim, he did you a right good turn when you were in Mexico.
00:10:38Anyway, apart from anything else, that's just a few of the things we've been discussing,
00:10:42the early breaking news and of course all the links with other managers' jobs. The managerial
00:10:47vacancy board is growing day by day in Scottish football, especially the premiership. Here's
00:10:53what else we've got coming up on the show. Here's what's coming up on today's show,
00:10:58brought to you by Arnold Clarke Rewards. Brendan Rodgers sends rally cry to Celtic
00:11:03fans ahead of Scottish Cup final against Aberdeen. Jimmy Tolleen isn't writing off
00:11:08Aberdeen's chances of lifting the trophy as he believes anything can happen.
00:11:14David Martindale blasts a supporter who crossed the line in unsavoury moments against Ross County.
00:11:20And Ange Postacoglu brands winning the Europa League the toughest thing he's ever done.
00:11:26Yeah, congratulations to Ange Postacoglu, I was just desperate for him on any platform
00:11:31just to get the mic and then drop it and then, you know, leather a few people in a press conference.
00:11:37If ever a man deserved to do it, it was him. We'll talk about Ange Postacoglu a little later
00:11:42on in the show. Can I just drop in something that I was lucky enough to go and see, it's called
00:11:48the Make it to Munich documentary. This is basically a brilliant documentary which is
00:11:55covering the uplifting story of a Scots teenager, Ethan Walker and his surgeon, Professor Gordon
00:12:03Mackay. That was an incredible 800 mile cycle from Hamden to Munich for the kickoff of Euro 24.
00:12:12And it was absolutely magnificent, it was Euro 26 to be honest with you, but it was absolutely
00:12:18magnificent. And as you can see there, the documentary is just uplifting because Ethan
00:12:24himself was actually on this scholarship in America, roughly, from Aberdeenshire and he
00:12:31suffered life-threatening injuries including multiple fractures, two brain haemorrhage,
00:12:36dislocation of his right knee in a road traffic accident. And then from there, the whole
00:12:42documentary charged the recovery and then this idea of why don't we all get on bikes and cycle
00:12:48to Munich. And to be honest with you, I went to the GFT to watch it with a number of people from
00:12:56across our profession and it was really uplifting, the boy, his journey and of course the relationship
00:13:03that he had with one of the finest surgeons our country has. It's a great story and it's out in
00:13:09cinemas right across the country and a chance for people to go and see it. Yeah, well we got bits of
00:13:14it, obviously while they were making it, the movement and the journey through there, it was
00:13:20very heartwarming to see him, even better heartwarming when he got there, when all the
00:13:25Scottish fans were waiting on him to arrive and you could see how much it meant to him being
00:13:32there and how much it meant to the supporters as well to join in and everything that he'd done.
00:13:36Yeah, it was Euro 24, Tam. Time is flying past by. I'm thinking World Cup 26 now, yeah absolutely.
00:13:45Just a touch on Gordon Mackay, he operated on me when I broke my leg at Hibs. Is that right? He
00:13:50fixed my ankle, I've still got a plate and six pins in it, so if you're watching Gordon, the pins are
00:13:55starting to come through a wee bit now, so I'm not happy with your look. It was 20 years ago, but I
00:14:00might be back in to see you shortly. I'll tell you one thing by the way, guys like Gordon Mackay should
00:14:05be paid absolute millions, they are worth their weight, you really are, I mean, saved so many
00:14:12lives, helped so many people and inspired Ethan as well and for Gordon to get on the bike as well
00:14:17was absolutely brilliant. If you get a chance to go and see it, go and see it, it's excellent to
00:14:21watch. Okay, Cup Final coming up, we'll discuss that, we'll hear from the Dons camp as well,
00:14:27what about the chances of a big shock at Hamden, is that going to happen? Give us your thoughts on
00:14:33that, we'll read out some of your messages on that, we'll talk about the line-up, talk about the key
00:14:37elements of that game, as well as discussing to greater detail some of the other breaking news
00:14:43that we brought to you at the start with Motherwell and the search for a new manager, yes, 12 weeks,
00:14:47Michael Wimmer gone because of family reasons heading back there. We'll talk about signings,
00:14:53Europa League final, we're definitely going to talk about Ange, as well as hoping with fingers
00:14:57crossed that Scott McTominay and Billy Gilmore are celebrating a Serie A victory on Friday night
00:15:04against Cagliari, here's hoping. So, with that in mind, let's first of all cast our attention back
00:15:13to Livingston 1-1 Ross County 1, I watched it, it wasn't a great game to be perfectly honest with
00:15:18you Raffy, and I thought Livingston deserved more than the 1-0 lead that they had and then
00:15:24they were denied the victory going into the second leg by a late, late penalty. Yeah, that was a
00:15:30silly foul from the Livingston defender, you know, I thought to see out the game 1-0, I think
00:15:36would have gave them a large advantage in the next game, a lot of pressure in Ross County, but
00:15:42when you could see Ross County when they got the penalty and the b-boys stuck it away,
00:15:46you know, you could feel that it swung a wee bit towards Ross County with a home advantage, but I
00:15:51still think there's a lot to play for and there still could be two Premierships down in the
00:15:56Championship. Yeah, I'm amazed, I don't know, it just switched my feeling on this time because
00:16:02Livingston couldn't see them off, they had opportunities, certainly when you look at
00:16:07the best of the possession, 55% of it, they had 11 shots to County 7 and basically,
00:16:16I think it was an opportunity lost, I think it's slightly the pendulum starting to swing
00:16:21and has swung in Ross County's favour now. Yeah, I think so as well, I think that Livingston will
00:16:27be disappointed that they didn't take a lead up there, I think when you look at the last
00:16:30couple of seasons, Ross County have been strong at home, you know, I think they come back and beat
00:16:35Partick Thistle after losing the first leg, certainly beat Wraith Rovers comfortably last
00:16:40season in Dingwall, so yeah, they are a different side at home, but I think Livingston will go up
00:16:45there and certainly test them, Livingston have already won up there this season in the Cup,
00:16:50it's all to play for, you would narrowly give Ross County the advantage, but I thought Ross
00:16:54County were poor last night Peter, I don't think they created anything, I thought they were poor,
00:16:58the wee boy Hale, they're heavily reliant on him to score, he took his penalty well under pressure
00:17:02and I think Livingston have got more goals in them, so I think there's a lot of life left in
00:17:06the tie, but Ross County probably slight favourites now and I'd have Phil for Danny Wilson, if there's
00:17:14no VR he gets away with it and Livingston usually, if I'm playing this season with no VR,
00:17:18but obviously with that game there was VR and they get punished for it, but it's a sickness
00:17:23for Livingston, but the tie's still alive for them. I must admit, if that's the case,
00:17:27I mean it was a soft penalty for them. I thought it was soft as well Peter.
00:17:30We'll start giving them for jersey pulling. I think.
00:17:33Have we seen a lot of jersey pulling penalties? Have we? Penalties?
00:17:37No, but we've seen jersey pulling and then you take it away, I just thought he held it just a
00:17:40wee bit too long and that's why the referees, if you just do that and then you just let go then
00:17:45it's fine. I just thought he just gripped it for maybe a second or two too long and Jordan White's
00:17:51bought it as well, so yeah they've disappointed Livingston, but there's a lot to play for up in
00:17:56Dingwall. Do you think he's swaying towards County?
00:17:58No, I still fancy Livingston Peter, I still think Livingston will go through,
00:18:01but I think it could go extra time penalties.
00:18:04No, I'm sticking with Ross County. Yeah?
00:18:06Yeah, I'm sticking with him. Tam's mentioned the wee man, he's in fire. He slotted the penalty away
00:18:13quite easy and he's been a brilliant signing. I'm surprised that maybe he'd be able to hold
00:18:19on to some of the goals that he's scored this season, but I think he's the one that could win
00:18:24it for Ross County. Okay, that's the overall assessment of the game and honours even,
00:18:32second leg on Monday. We'll bring you build up to that as well as an assessment of it as well
00:18:38on PLZ Soccer. The station just never stops, it's as simple as that. When Ruffey and Tam have their
00:18:44sixth holiday of the year, we just keep on going with other staff. Fan spitting on coach
00:18:54Carol Tramarco, it just beggars belief. We have plumbed the depths time and time again
00:19:04with various fans, conduct, behaviour and we shouldn't have any great expectation when it
00:19:14comes to it at times, but I think spitting is probably the most barbaric of all and quite
00:19:21simply this is what Don Cowie had to say, the Ross County manager, on the incident at the end
00:19:25of the game. Supporters cross the line in terms of their action. We all understand the game's full
00:19:34of emotion. We get a penalty in the last minute, the frustration's there. Fans can say anything
00:19:41they want to a degree in terms of what they're saying to the dugout is fine, that's part of it,
00:19:46but it crossed the line by someone carrying out an action that's not acceptable and then after that
00:19:55a few of our staff want to protect our people, which is natural because it's disgusting what
00:19:59happened, but luckily we managed to calm the situation down and Livingston have been fantastic
00:20:06in terms of dealing with the situation. Where do you go with that Tam? It's disgusting Peter,
00:20:14it's something we don't want to see in Scottish football. Ruffey will tell you it's one of the
00:20:19worst things somebody can do to you, spitting on you and it's disgusting. He's right, emotions do
00:20:25run high and people can shout and swear and coaches and players to a certain extent can accept that,
00:20:30but somebody's spitting on you. If you'd done that in the street you'd get knocked out.
00:20:35Hopefully they find out who the culprit is. I heard David Martindale speaking after it and he
00:20:38was bitterly disappointed. It's not a reflection on all the Livingston fans, it's one idiot,
00:20:45one moron has done it and hopefully he gets banned and doesn't get back into the stadium. I'm sure
00:20:49Livingston will dig him out and ban him, but there's nothing Livingston can do about it,
00:20:54it's just some idiot at the game. Here's David Martindale's take on what he thinks is a mindset
00:21:00from some supporters. What I've heard, it's disgusting, it's vile, it's disappointing,
00:21:08it's not a reflection on our full fan base, it's an individual, so really, really disappointing.
00:21:14Apologise on behalf of the club, there's not a lot more I can do. I'm sure the powers that be
00:21:19at the club will make sure it's dealt with promptly and efficiently. I've been feeling
00:21:25football has been getting out of hand the last two or three years. This old analogy, I'll pay
00:21:30my money and I can shout what I want, this all comes from, remember, maybe not just this incident,
00:21:35but I do feel there's an entitlement with certain parts of the fan base that feel they can come
00:21:43shout abuse at them. This is just probably a build-up of that kind of attitude. I can come
00:21:49to a football game, I pay my money and I can do what I want, don't believe in it, don't agree
00:21:53with it. I think it's the only sport in the world that you can come and abuse your own players,
00:21:58fellow players. He makes a very, very good point, David Martindale. One of the things that I think
00:22:05we do champion on here, I know you two laugh about it, because I hit back at people who are morons
00:22:10who post abuse and post a lot of stuff on our feed that we clamp down on, because we try as much as
00:22:20we possibly can to promote the positive aspects of things. We love people having an opinion,
00:22:26have a dig at us, you know, and fun, but people who are abusive and they go down various roads,
00:22:32what we call these keyboard warriors who are behind the laptop and they think they can get
00:22:38away with it. But as David Martindale mentioned there, there are some fans who think they can do
00:22:43what the hell they want, if they're part of a group, they also think they're stronger and bomb
00:22:48proof as well. You've got flares, you've got pyros, you've got abuse, and now spitting is just one of
00:22:54those things that you add to the list. Yeah, but as Tam said, the only way to stamp it out is catching
00:22:58the individuals and punishing them severely. I see they caught the boy that chipped the seat at
00:23:04Aberdeen, he's going to be disciplined, and I think they have to do it quick. It's good,
00:23:09I know there are procedures you've got to go through to charge somebody and everything, but
00:23:13it's good that it's out there and the rest of the morons are seeing what's going to happen to them
00:23:17if they're caught, and this is a perfect example, let's see who this guy is and see if he keeps
00:23:23ahead of his job, because that's the only way you're going to punish them. I think you should
00:23:26name and shame. Yeah, I think so as well. I'm well done to the company who sacked the boy that did
00:23:33the 66 at the Rangers Celtic game. That's the kind of thing we're looking for, and it's out there,
00:23:38and everybody knows about it, and the guy's then got to deal with it with his pals and everyone
00:23:42around about him. They've got to realise it's a life changing thing that happens to them if
00:23:48they do something like this. Okay, that's just aside from football. Monday it'll be up at Dingwall,
00:23:54Ross County against Livingston. It's such a tight one to call, Tam, I think you might be right on
00:24:00the old penalties issue again, and then you start to look and you think, who's got the best goalkeeper?
00:24:06Did you think it was over the line, the shot that was saved? It was a right good save too,
00:24:10wasn't it? I thought it was a save, I thought it was a great save Peter, but listen we'll never know
00:24:14until we get that goal line technology, but I thought it was a fantastic save for the Livingston
00:24:18keeper. Oh yeah, it was a really good one. Just had a word from Easter Road, they thought it was over
00:24:23the line shot there. I mean, what does Don Cowie say to the boys? Listen, we've managed to
00:24:33take the best of it, let's bomb on now and just see if we can finish them off in our home
00:24:39place, you'll never get a better opportunity. No, but you could sense at the end of the game
00:24:43there was only one team celebrating, that Ross County get out of jail, Livingston heads would go
00:24:49down, 1-1-0, losing a late goal, have to get their head round that and go up there, but then it's up
00:24:55to the manager to do his job, you know, to convince both sets of players that they're good enough to
00:24:59win the game. Yeah, absolutely. Okay, I'm going to stick with Livia on penalties. I've got Livia
00:25:06on penalties as well. I'm Ross County. On penalties? No, he won the game. Oh, comfortable? Yes. Okay.
00:25:12The issue I've got with Ross County, Peter, is they're not in great form. The last 10 games
00:25:15they've lost 8-2, so they haven't won a game in I don't know how long, so that's a factor as well
00:25:21for me. Yeah, absolutely. Okay, Scottish Cup final. Well done to the Aberdeen fans, sold 20,000 tickets
00:25:27and they deserve the 20,000 tickets. Absolutely, I think when you look at the loyalty
00:25:32to the supporters, they're heavy underdogs. A lot of Aberdeen supporters, I know a couple, and they're
00:25:37fearing the worst. You only know a couple of Aberdeen fans? I know a couple, aye, and listen, they're
00:25:43fearing the worst going into the game, but they're still going to go. They're still going to go because
00:25:46you never know. You don't want to be one of those fans that doesn't go to the game and Aberdeen play
00:25:50at their skin and sell their crap on the day and they go and win the Cup. So fair play to the
00:25:54Aberdeen fans for coming down. 20,000, brilliant. They've sold and they've made a great atmosphere
00:25:59and they'll go and try and cause an upset, but I don't see it happening. Kobe Henderson's our man
00:26:05in the North East and he's looking forward to this one. Final fever has descended upon the North East
00:26:11of Scotland as Aberdeen prepare to face Celtic in Saturday's Scottish Cup final. Aberdeen captain
00:26:17Graeme Shinney previously won the competition with Iverness Calais. He wasn't shy on lifting the
00:26:23trophy on media day. However, the Aberdeen captain spoke on how he's hoping it's red ribbons he's
00:26:28lifting come Saturday. Yeah, it would mean everything to me. It would be a very special day,
00:26:35not only for me, but for the supporters and for the club and everyone involved. It would be
00:26:40a massive achievement for us all. So like I said, it'll take a lot of hard work. It will
00:26:48take a lot of work in the game. I'm set we've got a good team, we know that.
00:26:53So we need to get a game plan that we feel that will win and go and execute. Aberdeen have been
00:26:59on the end of some heavy defeats against Celtic this season. However, Jimmy Tolleen insists that
00:27:04it's a Cup final, anything can happen. I think you always have to move on. It's a final
00:27:10of course, we learn things from that game. But it's also a final, it's a different kind of game
00:27:20and in the league. And when you feel the spirit among the players that also want
00:27:26looking forward to the game and you can feel the belief among the players. So
00:27:32that's in the past. Now this is the final, the only thing we can see in front of us.
00:27:36Aberdeen take on Celtic in the Scottish Cup final at Hampden Park on Saturday.
00:27:40Kick-off is at three o'clock. Yeah, really looking forward to it. And of course at Hampden,
00:27:46on that big pitch, who does it favour? Give us your thoughts on what you think about the game,
00:27:53who's going to win it? Celtic are 3-10, Stonewall, Red Hot Favourites, Aberdeen 7-1, 17-4 the draw.
00:28:02I think that's about right. I think any of the games that you saw, Celtic and Aberdeen,
00:28:06at the end of the day, Celtic have been so comfortable in the game and scored lots of
00:28:10goals. If you're in the Aberdeen team, you'll have that at the back of your mind. You'll try
00:28:14and tell yourself, well it's a one-off game, it's a Cup final. But at the end of the day,
00:28:20I think Celtic have got the better players. Yeah, with that in mind, Schmeichel, Johnson,
00:28:25Carrick, Vickers, Scales, Taylor, Bernardo, McGregor, Engels, Maida, Ida, Koon, will it
00:28:32deviate too much from that? No, I think that'll be the team. Peter, the only one you could maybe
00:28:36think was Luke McCown, maybe in for Bernardo, but I think he'll play Bernardo. Trusty for Scales,
00:28:42nah, I think that'll be the team. I think James Forrest will be a key player later on,
00:28:47coming off the bench. I think he gave Graham Shinney a real hard time up at
00:28:51Todry. But yeah, I think that's going to be the team. I think Celtic will miss Hatati,
00:28:55I think he's a top player. I think he makes some tick, he makes great forward passes,
00:28:59and I think they will miss him. But a guy like Bernardo, he comes in and just shows you the
00:29:03depth that Celtic have got. So yeah, I think that Celtic team's strong enough to go and win the
00:29:07treble. If I was looking at that side there, Ruffey, it's a good point that Dan makes, but
00:29:13I would be looking at James Forrest and saying, just go out there and give us an hour.
00:29:18Yeah, I think that's maybe what he'll get. I've seen start.
00:29:23No, I think he's more, at the age he's at, he's better coming on when the game's on its way and
00:29:30there's tired legs out there in the Aberdeen team. So he's going to be fresh, and I thought
00:29:35he looked really fresh last week at Parkhead when he was taking people on. He looked sharper than
00:29:40most of the other teams. I think Brendan's usually 60 minutes, 65 minutes, and throw his
00:29:46substitutes on, and he could be a big player as he was. I think it was last year he came on in the
00:29:50final, was he not? And he was brilliant. Yeah, absolutely. And obviously, from that point of
00:29:56view, Rodgers, Brendan Rodgers. I mean, this is a treble. This could be his third treble.
00:30:02I mean, it's incredible, isn't it? Yeah, I think that when you look at Brendan Rodgers' record
00:30:06as Celtic manager at St Pires, I think he's only lost one cup game since he's been here,
00:30:10and that was down at Camarnock. He's won everything else, and people talk about
00:30:16Rangers getting closer to Celtic and different things, but I think the key for Celtic is
00:30:21keeping Brendan Rodgers. I think he's a winner, he knows how to win in Scottish football,
00:30:24and I think the only way Rangers possibly, for me, get closer to Celtic is if he leaves.
00:30:29How is he? Do you think he's going to leave? I think he's going to leave next season, at this time next season.
00:30:33I think he's one more year than Brendan Rodgers. And as I said to you, I think that if you're a
00:30:38Rangers supporter, rather than who you're bringing in, and the players you're bringing in, I'd be
00:30:42looking at Brendan Rodgers chucks it at Celtic, leaves Celtic. That's maybe a chance for Celtic to be a little
00:30:48bit vulnerable, because as I said to you, Brendan's been in periods, in big games, particularly against
00:30:54Rangers and everyone else, in his cup records, and I think he's won every single cup he's been here,
00:30:58so, bar one. So, listen, he's a top, top manager, and I think he'll go and lead Celtic to another
00:31:05treble and make history. Interesting that, Ruffy, what he will do. Do you think he's going to sign
00:31:10an extension, or do you think he'll think, three years and I'm out? Yeah, he keeps on telling
00:31:15everybody not to be worried, you know, I'm going to be meeting and I'll discuss my future, you know.
00:31:20It's difficult when you're a positional manager, when you are winning trebles and you're winning
00:31:24cups and all that going, what is he going to say to himself? You know, he's been down south,
00:31:29you know, he's done that bit, you know, so, I know, I think it was Wee Gordon that said,
00:31:34four years is enough at a big club. I don't know, it's an individual, you know, he'll be thinking
00:31:40his family as well, you know, it's a 24-7, you know, job, it's up to him to make that decision,
00:31:46but I think when you keep winning things, it's a hard one to let go. Brendan himself, looking forward
00:31:52to the cup final, has called on all the supporters to really get behind the team and cheer them on
00:31:56to victory. We really need the supporters for this game, said the Celtic manager. Aberdeen will come,
00:32:02I remember them in the semi-final last year when they really pushed their team, I remember them in
00:32:07the semi-final of the League Cup. We'll try to be at our best and hopefully the fans can be at their
00:32:13best too. When they do that, they give us an unbelievable push. We can get through this
00:32:18together, so be as loud as you can and hopefully we can make you as proud as we possibly can and
00:32:24with that in mind, I always like it, Tam, when you've got a situation like this, when you have
00:32:29an equal split, you know, Celtic and Rangers games, you'll love them at Hampden, Aberdeen have got a
00:32:34great support, travelling support and they'll be coming there with hope. Okay, slightly up against
00:32:40it because they've taken some tankings against Celtic this season. I think, you know, the goals
00:32:45for Celtic is frightening and the goals against, you know, it doesn't fill you with confidence.
00:32:51They'll need to look and see it themselves. Well, what do they need to do? They score first. Yeah.
00:32:56They must score first, Aberdeen. I think if you've been on the back of a hammer at
00:33:00Hampden this season already, 6-0, then you've just been hammered 5-1 from Celtic's B team.
00:33:06I think if you're an Aberdeen player, you go out and Celtic score the first goal in the first 10,
00:33:0915, 20 minutes, you think we're gubbed. I think if Aberdeen get it, the energy they get for their
00:33:15supporters, the energy they get from that, something to hold on to, will be massive for them. So I think
00:33:21the first goal is massively important. I think if Aberdeen get it, they can go and win the game.
00:33:25If Celtic get it, it's a long, long way back for Aberdeen. So the first goal for me is massively
00:33:29important. Yeah. The team. What would you do, Rafi, with regards to the formation on this? I mean,
00:33:36will Aberdeen change their style too much? I mean, they can play a 4-3-2-1. They have gone 4-4-2
00:33:42at times. I mean, all sorts of formations you try and come up with to see if you can win the game.
00:33:48I mean, I have taken a stab at maybe meet off and goal, Jenson, Tobers, Neuster,
00:33:54Shinnie, then it's Clarkson, Palaversa, Keskinen, McGrath, Ockels and Nisbet, you know, McGrath with
00:34:01that number 10 role. But then, you know, you look at teams like Hibs and St Mirren, they played a
00:34:07kind of a 5-3-2, had success at times against Celtic. I just wonder, I think, my personal opinion
00:34:13is you have got to swamp the midfield and not give them the chance. Yeah, I think if you listen
00:34:18to most people who play against Celtic, you have got to sit in for 15-20 minutes. You have got to
00:34:23be solid. You have got to make it difficult for their good players to get on the ball and that's
00:34:28something that Celtic seem to do very easily, is get possession of the ball. Do you know what the
00:34:34worst time is for Aberdeen in all the games they have played against Celtic? The 25th minute.
00:34:40Because from the 25th minute onwards is when they start conceding goals against Celtic.
00:34:44And it's alright saying, I think Tam has got the element of it which has got to be the only
00:34:50thing in their favour, is if they can get a goal early on before Celtic. Once Celtic get into that
00:34:55groove, Ruffey, you know what they are like, they just grind you down. I think the only way that
00:34:59Aberdeen will get anything out of the game is the wide positions in the forward areas, because we
00:35:03know the two Celtic full-backs like to charge forward and there can be big gaps back there,
00:35:08so they have got to get possession of the ball, get it wide as quick as possible and move the
00:35:13ball forward. But as I said, the biggest thing for me is Celtic gaining that large amount of
00:35:18possession of the ball and they generally end up winning the games. They need to try and stop
00:35:22Callum McGregor as well, Peter. Yeah, definitely. If I was Aberdeen manager, I would be working on
00:35:26that all week. You are saying, McGrath playing number 10 role, I'd have McGrath sacrificing
00:35:31himself and just going and sitting on McGregor the whole game. Wherever he goes, you go,
00:35:36if you stop McGregor, you stop Celtic for me. You leave it to other players to go and create,
00:35:40but Callum McGregor is the heartbeat of Celtic and the Rangers have done it pretty well in the last
00:35:45couple of games against Celtic where they have stopped him playing. But I think if you are
00:35:48Aberdeen, you need to stop him because he makes Celtic tick. It might be a job for Liker,
00:35:54McGrath to go and say, listen, okay when you are on the ball, but when you have not got the ball,
00:35:58just go and follow Callum McGregor about. But it is easier said than done because when Callum
00:36:02McGregor is clever enough to pull other players away, then it leaves space for other guys to go
00:36:07and play. So it is a difficult one for Aberdeen, but for me, any chance they have got, they have
00:36:11got to score first. Yeah, interestingly enough, whether it is James Forrest, whether it is
00:36:16Bernardo, even Engles in there, you see all sorts of newspaper stories about clubs being interested
00:36:23in him. Interestingly enough, I look at Engles, 10 goals and 13 assists this season and still I
00:36:31am waiting to be convinced about him. It is the price tag Peter. Is it? It is the price tag. If
00:36:37Celtic had signed Engles for £1 million, I think you would be saying he is a good prospect, he has
00:36:42had a good season. Because it is £11 million, it is a club record fee, you are expecting more. So
00:36:49I think it is the price tag. If you look at him purely, take the price tag out of it, you think
00:36:54he is a promising young player. But because it is £11 million, you are thinking, let's put a lot of
00:36:58money for him and maybe expect a wee bit more. Yeah, are you expecting a wee bit more from Ida?
00:37:03Yeah, I am Peter. I think he has come on to the game in terms of goals. I think his goalscoring
00:37:08record over the last five or six games is excellent. He is another one for me, the price tag
00:37:14Peter. You are £9 million, you are thinking you should be banging 25 or 30 goals in for Celtic.
00:37:19And he hasn't quite done that. But I think he has got to 20 this season without playing
00:37:23a lot of minutes. So I like him. I think he has got great attributes and I think you maybe see
00:37:27the best of him next season once he has got a season under his belt with Celtic.
00:37:30That's the great thing about this show, Ruffey. He likes both these players. I think they have
00:37:36got a bit to go. I always look at what a manager does and I always listen to what a manager says.
00:37:41And when you see what he does with certain players, if Kyogo goes, you are expecting Ida to
00:37:47be in regularly and scoring goals. He hasn't really set the heather on fire for me. I think
00:37:53Brendan will go and get another striker in the summer. When you look at end goals, I genuinely
00:37:59think Celtic goal. I think they will have a right go at trying to sign Lennon Miller as a replacement
00:38:04long term for McGregor. And I also think they will look and say to themselves, well Jota is out
00:38:09injured, we will go for another winger. I think the proof is in what the manager does and what he
00:38:14says with certain people. He still hasn't given up on Greg Taylor but I think Greg Taylor might
00:38:20look at the situation and say, am I going to play second fiddle at my age? I want to go and play
00:38:25regular football. Brendan Rodger seems to like a wide man, there is no doubt about that. Anytime
00:38:29you see he is looking at somebody, it is somebody in a wide position. As far as end goals are
00:38:34concerned, I think he is not far away from having a big game. I think he is unfortunate that he has
00:38:41other players that command more respect than him, like Hatate, McGregor, even Koon, Jota.
00:38:50I think he is still young enough. You see certain things in his game, he has got wee flicks here,
00:38:56he sees some passes that other people don't see. I don't think he is a complete player yet,
00:39:01but I certainly think he is not far away from grabbing a big game like the weekend.
00:39:06Jim Hunter says, I have followed Celtic for 70 years. Wow, Jim, that is some going son.
00:39:13And he says, looking at the past few results, some fans think this will be easy, I am not so sure.
00:39:18I think it may be close, but just expecting Celtic to get it over the line.
00:39:25Listen, there is a man who has watched 70 years, Ruffey. Jim has seen some of the best players in
00:39:31Scotland, 70 years, that is good going. He must be about 80. He could have seen you playing against
00:39:41Honved in those big five games that you were hoping to get you into the Hall of Fame.
00:39:46It was actually six games.
00:39:51Six merely, so you are used to it. No, that is what supporters are, they support their team
00:40:00through thick and thin and they hang on in there. That is a tremendous record,
00:40:04as you are thinking, if he is 10, when he started going, absolutely amazing.
00:40:08Yes, absolutely, he is guessing he is 80. I am just thinking he might, it was my guess,
00:40:13sorry about that. He might, listen, he will tell us what age he is. He might have been 11.
00:40:16Yes, shut up. Anyway, apart from that, I am looking at the overall form going into it as
00:40:23well. Not great form from Aberdeen. We have heard from Kobe there and Graham Shinny talking about
00:40:32what they are going to have to do. They are going to really have to step up to the plate. They are
00:40:36going to have to hope that Nisbet has got his shooting boots on as well. I do think they are
00:40:41going to need to swamp the midfield and come up with a goal time. I just cannot see past,
00:40:48and we have been like this all weekend, it has got nothing to do with West of Scotland,
00:40:52it is just the evidence that has unfolded before us. I can only see a 4 or a 5-0 for Celtic.
00:40:58No, I don't Peter. I am going to go closer than that.
00:41:01Did you go closer earlier in the week?
00:41:03Yes, I am going to go, I just don't think you get that in a final. I think, yes, I looked at the
00:41:09last couple of finals, Celtic, I think they beat Inverness 3-1. People were expecting 5 or 6.
00:41:14They beat Aberdeen 2-1 with a 4-h late on.
00:41:17Aberdeen were unlucky last season, they were at the semi-final in penalties.
00:41:23I am going to go for Celtic to win 2-0.
00:41:26Ruffey?
00:41:27Yes, I don't think it is a 4 or a 5 in this game. It is a very tense, nervous situation. That is for
00:41:33the Celtic players as well. They have got a big support behind them, the Treble is on the line.
00:41:41Every manager will say we need certain Celtic players to have an off day.
00:41:47That is what they need. They need big players to have an off day to have any chance in this game.
00:41:51Yes, okay. Kaiser says 5-0 Aberdeen. I think what happens is sometimes…
00:42:00Heroin in Aberdeen?
00:42:01No, what happens sometimes is you just open a can of Kestrel and Kaiser has just gone for it today.
00:42:06The sun is out, he is sitting there outside in his mansion in Aberdeen because I have never met
00:42:12anybody. Have you met anybody poor in Aberdeen, Ruffey? I haven't seen anybody poor.
00:42:16Kaiser is sitting there in Aberdeen and he just thought to himself, I am on my 12th can,
00:42:21let's just go mental. 5-0 Aberdeen. What do you think?
00:42:24I don't think it is going to happen, Kaiser.
00:42:27He really believes I should go to the biscuits and put it on.
00:42:30John says Kaiser has been on the glue again.
00:42:34John, it is nothing to joke about. Kaiser's safety is the most important thing here. You just want
00:42:41him to go to bed early, get up there. Ruffey, there is a lot of pressure on me because I have
00:42:45said that Celtic will batter them and if Aberdeen win the cup, I am here on Monday's show with a
00:42:51full Aberdeen strip and Nicky Devlin sent me a message last couple of days and said the boys
00:42:56all want to know what size you are for the Aberdeen top. I could be sitting here in the full
00:43:04Aberdeen regalia on Monday, Ruffey. What a game that was.
00:43:12Get it for the figures, get it for viewers. It would be fantastic by the way. I can't think
00:43:19I have ever worn an Aberdeen shirt before, Ruffey. I have got a few.
00:43:23You have had one. I will give it away in a competition.
00:43:25Remember my fan wife, Little Britain. Everybody plays the thing and he has got the hot pants on.
00:43:30If you ever play in a legends game, son, I am going to leather you, honestly.
00:43:37There are quite a few people who are obviously giving us their thoughts on this one. Tell us
00:43:43what you think about it. Cup final, strange thing, one off. We have heard all the clichés.
00:43:47I am afraid when you look at the way Celtic are playing, I don't think clichés come into it. I
00:43:51think they just at the moment look as if they are a well-oiled machine. Aberdeen are going to have
00:43:55to mix it up and maybe put in one of those crunching tackles early on to set the tone for
00:44:00the game. I will tell you one thing though, David Gray will be watching the game. He won't be
00:44:03cheering on Celtic but he will be hoping they win because that means Hibs will go straight into the
00:44:08Europa League. Yes, they will be guaranteed group stage football and that is massive for Hibs,
00:44:12a club the size of Hibs. A couple of my good friends are Hibs supporters.
00:44:17You know a couple of friends who are Hibs fans? Yes, a couple of my friends from
00:44:20East Kilbride are big Hibs fans and they will be supporting Celtic simply because it gets them
00:44:25into that group stage. You get guarantees on group stage football so I think a lot of Hibs
00:44:29supporters will be wanting Celtic to win. I cannot believe, that is quite unusual to see Hibs fans
00:44:34living in East Kilbride. They must have been relocated. Aye, there is actually a few. I have
00:44:38bumped into a few in East Kilbride. Hibs fans, aye. Must have moved west for jobs, Ruffey,
00:44:45what do you think? It is quite an unusual situation. I can't get my head around that.
00:44:48Can't get it myself, Ruffey, to be honest with you. It is a matter of East Kilbride,
00:44:51I mean, it is a nice place. It is a bit of a far away from Edinburgh.
00:44:58We all kind of have 25 acres in Cumbernauld, can't we? That is a very good point. Ruffey is
00:45:05the only man I know who surveys his land with a monocular just to see if anybody has managed to
00:45:09breach the fence. Listen, prediction? 2-0 Celtic. 2-0 Celtic. Okay, I am going to go 4-0 Celtic.
00:45:18There you are. It is as simple as that. Give us your thoughts on it. Lots of people have
00:45:24given us their thoughts on how they think it is all going to end and it is the joy of it. I hope
00:45:31it is a sunny day. I think it is going to be the last sunny day before the weather eventually breaks.
00:45:35It is going to break tonight. Is it tonight? Nine o'clock tonight. All right, there you are.
00:45:39Ruffey, don't forget. Michael Pish. Yeah, PLZ Soccer. Later on, Ruffey does his own weather
00:45:45show. Just big ice, the bars and a touch screen at the back there. Looking forward to it. A lot
00:45:51of other things we have got to quickly talk about before we get to the end of the programme. Of
00:45:56course, what we will find out over the summer and we will be following it non-stop is Rangers.
00:46:02Russell Martin, they still won't let his name drift away from the Rangers job and then Stephen
00:46:08Gerrard. If it was down to those two, I think there has got to be others in the equation for me,
00:46:13Tam, but if it was down to those two, Stephen Gerrard or Russell Martin, I think Russell
00:46:17Martin would be an exciting prospect on the type of football that he wants to play.
00:46:21Yeah, I think Russell Martin is very much an attacking coach. I think you have seen that,
00:46:25by getting Southampton promoted. I don't think it is any shame for a club like Southampton to go
00:46:29into the Premier League and struggle. They didn't spend a lot of money and the three clubs, as you
00:46:33have seen, that came up went straight back down. I think they just pocketed the money and what will
00:46:38be, will be. So, I think he is a really, really good coach. I think he has got a way of playing
00:46:43and I think it is a way of playing that would suit Rangers. I think it is a way of playing that
00:46:47would go and take the game to teams. Playing the front foot and break teams down. It wouldn't be
00:46:52in any way a defensive style. I like Russell Martin. I see comments on social media mixed
00:46:59for Rangers supporters. Some think, yeah, some think, no, he has been sacked out of Southampton
00:47:03his credentials for Rangers. So, I like Russell Martin. I think he would be a good manager,
00:47:08but it depends on who the new owners see wanting to come in. Steven Gerrard is obviously a name
00:47:14that has not went away. Previous success, winning the league at Rangers, stopping the 10-0.
00:47:19I don't think he has shown anywhere else, in terms of Aston Villa or over in Saudi,
00:47:24that he is a top manager. He won one trophy in nine at Rangers. I think the European runs maybe
00:47:29kept him in a job at times. I am not so sure on that one with Steven Gerrard at Rangers.
00:47:34I don't get it, Ruffy. I am not convinced at all. I think if Steven Gerrard is back at Rangers,
00:47:39even with some amount of money, I don't see him beating Brendan Rodgers.
00:47:45No, that is what they have got to take a gamble on. That is what they want. Steven Gerrard will
00:47:50come back. He has been here already. He knows he just has to beat Celtic.
00:47:54If he comes back.
00:47:54If he comes back. When he went down south, there were a lot more teams to beat when he left Rangers.
00:48:02So he knows coming up, you have to be number one. It depends on what the new owners say.
00:48:07This is the ammunition you are going to get to be number one and turn this around.
00:48:13I think it is behind the scenes, the chat and what is on the table.
00:48:17I still think it is a name coming out of left field that nobody knows.
00:48:20I am just saying to you, I think it is a name out of left field that nobody knows,
00:48:24that they might, once they get the overall takeover in place.
00:48:29I have said it, it might sound silly, but they do have lots of clubs. The Red Bull and the 49ers.
00:48:37I think they have got that many clubs.
00:48:39Do you think it is Vince Lombardi?
00:48:40I think it is somebody they have interviewed for the Red Bull.
00:48:47Somebody they have interviewed for one of their clubs that has been successful.
00:48:52They might say, put him in there, he has done honour.
00:48:55Bill Belichick?
00:48:56Yeah.
00:48:56Yeah? Okay.
00:48:57Willie Brady maybe.
00:49:02I just think the board is the key issue to this.
00:49:05New board, new way of thinking, new business plan.
00:49:08Kevin Thelwell has a list there and I am not sure at this moment if it is just down to two men.
00:49:14He will have other people there that he will be looking at and studying their credentials.
00:49:18What about Kelly?
00:49:18Stuart Kettlewell, not in the job right now.
00:49:21Front runner, but there are six being interviewed and he has not got the job
00:49:25the way it has maybe been in an early, not to say he won't get it,
00:49:28but it looked as if it was all done and dusted in the last 24 hours, but it is not.
00:49:33Yeah, I think when you look at Stuart Kettlewell, he has got good experience in the Premier League.
00:49:38Ross County, Motherwell, obviously left Motherwell on a sour note,
00:49:42which we thought could possibly put some clubs off.
00:49:45You know, not happy with some abuse he was getting from the stands.
00:49:48And I think we have had Stuart on the show before.
00:49:51He speaks very well.
00:49:52I think if he goes for an interview, I think he would be impressive in an interview.
00:49:57I think if you had directors sitting there, three or four guys sitting there,
00:50:00Billy Bowie and Stuart Kettlewell put a presentation on,
00:50:04I think you would think he is quite an impressive character.
00:50:07He speaks well, which is half the battle I think in management.
00:50:09So, yeah, I think he will be in the running for it, Peter.
00:50:12I certainly think Stephen Naismith, who has been linked to it straight from the get-go,
00:50:17I think he would be in for it as well.
00:50:19You know, great player at Comarnet, good experience at Hearts, finished third.
00:50:23I would expect Stuart Kettlewell or Stephen Naismith,
00:50:25one of those two, to be the Comarnet manager.
00:50:27Yeah, okay.
00:50:29Dundee is a different kettle of fish.
00:50:31Can't quite second guess where they are going.
00:50:33I mean, I know Tumuru Ketspaya maybe have thrown his name into the ring,
00:50:36but that's just one of undoubtedly 50 applicants who will all fancy a wee tilt at Dundee.
00:50:41But I think John Nelms and Gordon Strachan have already decided on their man.
00:50:46Even though, you know, it could be Sean Maloney,
00:50:48but I think they've already decided who it is.
00:50:51Yeah, I think Gordon Strachan has got a big part to play in this.
00:50:55Obviously, if he's there, you know, under the capacity that he's working under,
00:50:59he's the guy you're going to tune into.
00:51:01You know, a lot of experience.
00:51:02He's worked with a lot of these guys.
00:51:04He'll know what they're bringing to the table.
00:51:08We don't know which way Dundee are going to go in the future.
00:51:11I was certainly surprised with the sacking.
00:51:13You know, I thought that the first year he had all these lone players,
00:51:17and then he got rid of all them and they brought in more stability.
00:51:21And then I would have given him another year, you know, most definitely.
00:51:25But I can't see why he wouldn't be mentioned at the Kilmarnock meeting.
00:51:30Yeah.
00:51:30Tony Docherty.
00:51:31Yeah, okay.
00:51:31Interesting stuff.
00:51:33Okay, as we told you at the top of the programme,
00:51:35Craig Gordon has signed a one-year extension at Hearts.
00:51:37They've also obviously got a new manager in place,
00:51:41and Derek MacInnes has said he's willing to embrace it.
00:51:45I think it's a great idea, Jamestown Analytics.
00:51:47They've signed Alexandros Kiziridis.
00:51:50This is a Greek winger,
00:51:52and they've already got a pre-contract signing of the Norwegian right-back,
00:51:56Kristian Borch Grevnik.
00:51:57So this isn't MacInnes' signings?
00:52:01No.
00:52:02So they're already ahead of the game with the analytics?
00:52:05Yeah.
00:52:05Okay.
00:52:06So I think from that point of view, he's quite happy to,
00:52:09you know, he said he used to do it all on his own.
00:52:11St Johnstone, obviously, as you climb into bigger clubs,
00:52:15there's a better structure to help you look at players.
00:52:17Yeah, I think it makes sense for him.
00:52:19I think that he'll go to the board, the directors,
00:52:23and to the Jamestown Analytics folk and say,
00:52:25listen, I want a right-back.
00:52:26I want a right-back that gets forward,
00:52:28that can, you know, do underlaps,
00:52:30that can, you know, defend well at the back post.
00:52:33Just out of curiosity, I've got to stop you there.
00:52:34What's an underlap?
00:52:35An underlap's when you go, you don't overlap,
00:52:38you go underlap, so you go inside the park.
00:52:40I've never done an underlap.
00:52:42Through somebody's legs?
00:52:43No.
00:52:43I've done a few underlaps, but I've never done an underlap.
00:52:46That's another one.
00:52:47You underlapped.
00:52:48Yeah, have you ever underlapped?
00:52:50Yes.
00:52:50Yeah.
00:52:51Okay.
00:52:51At the golf ado?
00:52:53No, I think there'll be certain characteristics
00:52:56that Derek MacInnes wants in a player,
00:52:58and they'll put it to the board.
00:52:59Does that take the pressure off him?
00:53:01Because I never identified him, you've identified him.
00:53:05You've just given him to me.
00:53:07He'll tell them what they're looking for,
00:53:09and I'm sure they'll come back with my list
00:53:11of two or three players, and he'll have the final say.
00:53:13I think Derek MacInnes will have the final say on the signings,
00:53:16but yeah, I think that when you look at it,
00:53:20listen, players coming in, players going out,
00:53:21I think you see a big turnover at Aberdeen this summer,
00:53:24and there'll be players coming in from everywhere,
00:53:25but listen, they're getting their business done early, Peter.
00:53:29Sorry, Hearts, and I think when you look at it,
00:53:31they're not in European football as well.
00:53:33Yeah.
00:53:33I think that could help them possibly as well.
00:53:35Still looking at Elton Kabangu, who I thought was useful at times,
00:53:38and they are still interested in Islam Chesnikov.
00:53:41I'm going through these names really well, Robbie,
00:53:43aren't I doing well, aren't I?
00:53:45But we shall see.
00:53:46There'll be lots of players coming and going.
00:53:49This is, everybody thinks it's the glamour of football,
00:53:52but let me tell you, and Tam is here to give you an insight,
00:53:54you can do an entire programme with Tam
00:53:56on looking for a new club in the summer.
00:54:00You could have done a whole documentary on it.
00:54:02It's not all the glamour of everybody earning huge amounts of money.
00:54:06This is an uncertain time for a lot of footballers,
00:54:09and there'll be some who'll be excited at the prospect
00:54:11of coming to Scottish football
00:54:13and maybe looking at it as a stepping stone.
00:54:16I've got to tell you, Kaiser says to us,
00:54:18why don't you come up to Union Street for the big parade?
00:54:22When they parade the cup down Union Street.
00:54:24Are you going to wear your Aberdeen kit?
00:54:25I'd have to wear my Aberdeen kit,
00:54:27and then obviously once a few people spot at me, Robbie,
00:54:30I'd get my head kicked in and I'd get leathered.
00:54:33It's as simple as that.
00:54:34Kaiser, I'm not coming.
00:54:37But that's the great thing about when you get a one-team city
00:54:39and you get some clubs to parade the cup.
00:54:43I mean, I saw your parade,
00:54:45the old photographs of you parading the cup in 1971
00:54:47when you beat Celtic 4-1.
00:54:51I'm amazed the bus started,
00:54:53and the second thing was your clobber was an absolute...
00:54:55Is there not an open-top bus now?
00:54:57No, there's a single bus.
00:54:59Do you know the wee air vent thing?
00:55:02Aye, did he do that?
00:55:03We had to stick our head out the sort of air vent thing.
00:55:06Robbie, what about Spurs winning the Europa League?
00:55:10Great, fantastic.
00:55:11Loved the interview after it with that lassie who was at Sky,
00:55:14where she kept pulling the mic back and forward.
00:55:16Yeah.
00:55:17Have you not seen that?
00:55:18I didn't see that one, I wasn't watching Sky.
00:55:19Brilliant.
00:55:20She kept on asking my question,
00:55:22but pulling it back and forward,
00:55:25and he said, if you want to really answer here,
00:55:27you'd have to put the mic in front of my mouth.
00:55:30Mate.
00:55:31Yeah, exactly.
00:55:31Oh, he calls you mate if he thinks you're a chimp.
00:55:36But it was fantastic.
00:55:38This is Ange on winning the Europa League.
00:55:44That was Ange winning the Europa League.
00:55:46I think we had a million on one of them anyway.
00:55:48Yeah, I'm absolutely delighted.
00:55:49As you know, I'm a massive Ange Postacoglu fan.
00:55:52I think that I love the way he plays.
00:55:54He's not sacrificed the way he plays for anyone.
00:55:58He's going to go down, if he goes down,
00:55:59he goes down on his own sword.
00:56:01He's told people that he always wins something
00:56:02in the second season.
00:56:03He's been slaughtered all season for that comment.
00:56:06Is he getting the sack?
00:56:07No.
00:56:08No, I don't think they'll sack him now,
00:56:09but if I was him, I would chuck it.
00:56:12What?
00:56:13I would chuck it if I was him.
00:56:15You've got to be kidding me.
00:56:16It's just a tilt of the chart.
00:56:17I don't care, I'd chuck it.
00:56:18Why?
00:56:19Because he's been slaughtered all season
00:56:20for the Tottenham fans.
00:56:21Slaughtered by the media down there.
00:56:23Daniel Levy.
00:56:24I'd go, thanks very much, see you later.
00:56:26You only get your three-year payment.
00:56:30I knew you were going to say that.
00:56:31You just said, do it one-on-one,
00:56:33nine million, deal?
00:56:34No.
00:56:34Either way.
00:56:35It's a hard way to chuck it.
00:56:37Here's what Arnge thinks of winning that trophy.
00:56:39It's definitely been the toughest thing I've ever done,
00:56:42without a shadow of a doubt.
00:56:45And I knew that going into it.
00:56:48You know better than me that this club's had some
00:56:51unbelievable world-class coaches,
00:56:53world-class players,
00:56:53and they haven't had a night like this.
00:56:55So I knew what I was taking on.
00:56:58And it's fair to say that it's been really challenging
00:57:01because wherever else I've had success by this stage,
00:57:05I've kind of had the faith and trust of everybody.
00:57:09And here it's been different.
00:57:15There's a telling line, you know.
00:57:17There's a few people have been nasty about him.
00:57:19I thought some of the written press,
00:57:24their comments have been below the belt.
00:57:26Yeah, I just don't think they could accept
00:57:28he was an honest guy in their views.
00:57:31They weren't used to a manager like that,
00:57:34telling you as it is,
00:57:35you know, instead of fudging over some issues.
00:57:37A lot of the, some of them, not them all,
00:57:39but a lot of them just didn't like him,
00:57:41you know, and just went against him
00:57:42and made it as difficult as possible for him.
00:57:45I don't think the squad of players that he's got
00:57:47is anywhere near any of the top six in the Premiership.
00:57:51So what he's done with these players at his disposal,
00:57:54not a big, massive player, a big standout,
00:57:57you know, match winner, he's done remarkably well.
00:58:00Here's what the Spurs fans think.
00:58:04At the moment, yeah, I think that buys him
00:58:06another couple of months next season.
00:58:08But if it continues like that in the league,
00:58:10unfortunately, he probably has to go.
00:58:11Yeah, but it's obviously been a terrible season
00:58:14for the league, but you win a European trophy
00:58:17when you say you're going to do it,
00:58:18then you've got to give him another chance.
00:58:2017 years is a trophy, so.
00:58:21He's delivered what he said he would.
00:58:23He was focused on this cup
00:58:25when the Premier League was sort of falling away.
00:58:26So he sort of stuck to it and achieved what we wanted.
00:58:31So really exciting.
00:58:33The prize is huge.
00:58:34You know, so much was riding on last night.
00:58:36I think we can look forward, loads of optimism,
00:58:39a good summer ahead and a very exciting season ahead.
00:58:42I think Ange can be good enough to do well.
00:58:44It just depends on what the players are like,
00:58:47who we're bringing in the summer.
00:58:48But I think he's definitely bought himself some time.
00:58:51They seem to be playing for the manager,
00:58:53which is important.
00:58:54So I'm not sure there are many managers out there
00:58:58that would come in and do much more.
00:59:01Yeah, give him a couple of months.
00:59:05Listen, if you think he's under pressure,
00:59:07what about the United manager?
00:59:09He's going to have to go through a complete rebuild,
00:59:12but he's not for quitting either, Roffy.
00:59:14Amarim?
00:59:15We have to see.
00:59:16In this moment, I'm not going to be here defending myself.
00:59:20It's not my style.
00:59:21I cannot do it.
00:59:21It is really hard for me.
00:59:24So I have nothing to show to the fans and say,
00:59:27I'm going to improve because of this.
00:59:29I had these problems.
00:59:30I will not do nothing.
00:59:32So in this moment, it's a little bit of faith.
00:59:35So let's see.
00:59:38Like I said before, coming here in the flash,
00:59:42I'm always open.
00:59:43If the board and the fans feel that I'm not the right guy,
00:59:46I will go in the next day
00:59:47without any conversation about compensation.
00:59:50But I will not quit again.
00:59:52I'm really confident on my job.
00:59:54And as you can see,
00:59:56I will not change nothing in the way I do things.
00:59:59OK, you've always got to stay for the money.
01:00:01That's Roffy's motto.
01:00:03And that will be what his motto is
01:00:05when he eventually leaves PLZ.
01:00:07You're just going to stick in and you're Roffy right to the end.
01:00:09Yes, I'll be here till...
01:00:11What was I going to say there?
01:00:13Till it all goes pear-shaped.
01:00:14I was going to say, there goes Dupart.
01:00:17No, no.
01:00:18I'm not going to say that.
01:00:19Roffy, if anybody under 40 is watching
01:00:23and they haven't seen Weekend at Burnley's,
01:00:25Roffy will be here.
01:00:27And I'll be hitting him with a spatula
01:00:29as the flies are around him.
01:00:30Just one little footnote then.
01:00:32Do you keep him?
01:00:33I'm in him.
01:00:35I think you've got to stick with the manager, ain't you?
01:00:37I think he's a good manager at the wrong club.
01:00:39You've got to bring in the right players.
01:00:42Okay, last word, Roffy.
01:00:43We've talked about the cup final,
01:00:44talked about the big news that the Motherwell manager
01:00:46has now resigned.
01:00:48Obviously, had to go back home for health reasons
01:00:51to his family and wanted to be close to them.
01:00:53So they're looking for a new manager as well.
01:00:55But the last point here is,
01:00:56I think everybody in Scotland is hoping
01:00:58that tonight, from 7.45 onwards,
01:01:01that Napoli destroy Cagliari,
01:01:04win the Serie A and Scott McTominay
01:01:06and Billy Gilmore have medals
01:01:09and will basically be legends in Italy
01:01:12for the rest of their lives.
01:01:13Yeah, wonderful achievement for both of them.
01:01:16Both of them have not had great publicity
01:01:21on their way up.
01:01:22They've obviously had to deal with it.
01:01:24Obviously, Scott McTominay leaving Man United,
01:01:26Billy Gilmore going about clubs on loan and all that.
01:01:29Now they've ended up at a really good club
01:01:31and what an achievement to win that league.
01:01:34It'd be magic, wouldn't it, tonight?
01:01:35Yeah, I hope they do it, Peter.
01:01:38I don't know.
01:01:38My friend Paul Petrie at McBookie
01:01:40bought Billy Gilmore's strip at an auction
01:01:42at the start of the season.
01:01:44Paid a lot of money for it.
01:01:46I think he's sitting with his fingers crossed as well
01:01:47because that'll be worth a few quid.
01:01:49Yeah, it will be.
01:01:49And especially, he'll be able to split some of the money
01:01:51with you for mentioning his company on this show.
01:01:54Well done, Tom.
01:01:55All our betting companies are available.
01:01:56Yeah, I love it.
01:01:59I didn't notice it.
01:02:00I just thought you'd squirt that in
01:02:02before the end of the season.
01:02:03Anyway, I'll buy it off you, Paul.
01:02:05Apart from anything else,
01:02:07hopefully you've enjoyed our look ahead to the Cup Final.
