00:00Welcome to News Plus Globe. Today, we celebrate World Turtle Day 2025.
00:07Observed every May 23rd, this global day honors turtles and tortoises and raises awareness to
00:13protect them. These ancient reptiles have existed for over 200 million years, long before dinosaurs
00:21vanished. World Turtle Day was founded in 2000 by American Tortoise Rescue to spotlight their
00:28survival struggles. Did you know? Turtles are the most endangered vertebrates on Earth,
00:35129 of 300 species face extinction. Threats include habitat loss, plastic pollution,
00:43illegal trade, and climate change. Turtles play a vital role in ecosystems,
00:49cleaning oceans, dispersing seeds, and shaping habitats. Rehabilitation centers like the
00:56Wildlife Center of Virginia care for thousands of injured turtles each year. In 2025, one would
01:04turtle return to the wild after surviving amputation and shell fractures. Want to help? Slow down for
01:12turtles on roads, move them in the direction they're heading. Never relocate wild turtles,
01:18they rely on home territory to survive. Keep dogs leashed, many turtle injuries come from pet attacks.
01:27Educate your family, host events, share stories, and protect their habitats. Meet the ambassadors,
01:35non-releasable turtles who teach thousands about conservation. Host a park cleanup, adopt a turtle,
01:42or support rescue programs, it all helps. Together, we can ensure these beautiful creatures thrive for
01:50generations to come. Share your support online, World Turtle Day and
01:55World Turtle Day.
