00:00now as Aston Villa look ahead to a crucial summer there's a growing sense of excitement
00:08over what this team could achieve next under Unai Emery's continued leadership
00:14their impressive campaign was underpinned by consistent high performance core players who
00:21stepped up at key moments and helped establish Villa as a serious force domestically and now
00:27in Europe that reliability has fueled optimism that the club can push even further with European
00:33football on the horizon and a chance to strengthen once again all eyes now turn to the boardroom
00:40will Villa back Emery in the market once more and how ambitious will they be in targeting the next
00:46level we spoke to local journalist Charlie Haffens to get a feel around the atmosphere of the club
00:52and what fans expect in a pivotal summer window yeah let's just look ahead to the summer plans
00:59obviously you know we've mentioned a number of times the core in terms of you know these players
01:04who've developed under Unai Emery is so important to keep hold of you know the likes of Morgan Rodgers
01:09they're going to be attracting attention you know that's just the way it works you have a great
01:13season for a club that that maybe isn't quite at the very elite level yet then those elite teams do
01:19come knocking and you know in terms of the summer how important is it that they keep players as much
01:24as adding a few more top class additions if they can obviously with the financial restrictions
01:29it is very important Morgan Rodgers is the man you mentioned it's been emerging that Chelsea are
01:36interested but I think Chelsea are interested in most players that perform well for other Premier League
01:41clubs it just happens every single season doesn't it myself as a Brighton fan it's happened with us
01:46Chelsea in the past and doesn't necessarily mean they're going to go and sign Morgan Rodgers and
01:50what's to say that Rodgers would want to make that move anyway he's from the West Midlands he's near
01:55his family he grew up around here and he's loving his life at Villa being a key player under Unai Emery and
02:01it's more of a system player as well Rodgers would he fit into the Chelsea system as well as he would
02:06Villa I'm not too sure but it's not just him it's the likes of Uri Tielemans as well Oli Watkins up front
02:12can we maybe see Watkins leave this summer is his time up at Villa his form this season hasn't quite
02:17been as it was Marcus Rashford at times before his injury took over in that striking position
02:22there's talks of Emi Martinez potentially going to Saudi Arabia Leon Bailey could also go to Saudi
02:28Arabia or Man United or Tottenham there's a lot of talk of outgoings and not much for incomings at
02:33the moment I think it's right that it's important that they get those decisions right as to who leaves
02:38it's pretty common knowledge at this point that there will need to be a sale or two to try and
02:44make some a bigger transfer kitty for for Unai Emery to dig into it's gonna be a difficult one I
02:49think this summer for Villa because it feels unfair doesn't it that the team that's on the periphery of
02:54the Champions League just about getting into it like a Newcastle for example they're forced to make
02:59these big sales yet you've got Man City who are spending ridiculous amount every summer Chelsea
03:04Man United they find ways to do it and some sort of rule change needs to happen at some point soon
03:09because it's just not fair but the reality is that they all need to make sales before they can even
03:14think about making new signings. And just on Aston Villa in terms of you know we're at the stage where
03:20the Premier League team this season that sort of we look at that and is there any sort of Villa players
03:25who could maybe realistically get in that or should be put forward from what you've seen this season
03:30there's been some incredible you know performances individually across the entire campaign.
03:36I'd love to see someone like an Esri Konza get in the team but I just can't see it when you've got
03:40lots of Virgil van Dijk stepping up and Murillo at Forest, Malenkovich at Forest it's not quite going
03:45to be there but Uri Tielemans I think has a shot of getting in the team been so so consistent playing
03:50every three or four days no matter the competition so we're talking about Premier League here but in a
03:55division he's been incredible recently he's upped his output for goals and assists as well I think
04:00in terms of the the recency bias he's in top form I think fans elsewhere in the Premier League are
04:05starting to realise just how good he is so I'd like to see Tielemans in there and I think he's got a
04:10fair shot achievements this season but they won't have a trophy to show for it and they might not
04:15even have Champions League football to show for it next season so a bit a bit of a strange one with a
04:20mixed bag but I think if you look at it on the whole and where Villa were a few seasons ago
04:24they've taken another step this year signing the likes of Asensio Rashford that wouldn't have been
04:29possible at that point in time and probably not even at the start of this season the financial
04:34side it's still a bit of a worry with PSR need to sort that out maybe make a couple of sales this
04:39summer but yeah the reputation of the football club is certainly on the rise again
04:43you
04:58you
