00:00For health care, for working families, and for children everywhere, Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi.
00:16Thank you all. Do you know how important you are?
00:19I hope you know your power, because all of the things that we have talked about,
00:24whether the Affordable Care Act, or expanding the subsidies, or saving the Affordable Care Act when they try to go,
00:31or protecting Medicare and Medicaid and Social Security, would not happen without the outside mobilization.
00:39We can just do so much in the Congress.
00:42And in that regard, I wish you could have seen, or perhaps you did on TV,
00:46Hakeem Jeffries testified today before the Rules Committee.
00:50It was spectacular, but you heard some of it this evening.
00:53Early in the morning, or in the night, this has been a long engagement.
01:00Our chair, our chair, soon to be once and future chair of the Budget Committee,
01:05Brendan Boyle, led the way, and he was fabulous.
01:09Just spectacular. You're going to hear from him now.
01:12And again, we can do what we can do.
01:15But the outside mobilization, inside maneuvering, outside mobilization.
01:19Now let's just talk about what's happening here.
01:20This is a Republican, this is a Republican reverse Robin Hood.
01:27They are taking from people who should have it, where we need to help,
01:32and giving it to the richest people in America.
01:35Just as they did in 2017, the last time they had the White House and the majority in the Congress,
01:43they put a tax bill that gave 83% of the benefits to the top 1%.
01:53To the top 1%.
01:57It's sinful. It's immoral. It's wrong.
02:01But let me just say this, because I think it's important to know,
02:03we're saying they're cutting Medicaid and SNAP and all that to pay for their tax cut.
02:10No. They're taking their tax cut no matter what.
02:13They don't care if it's paid for or not.
02:15What they're trying to do is undo governance for the people.
02:19Undo Medicare. Undo Medicaid. Undo Medicare.
02:23So understand, this is a bigger plot.
02:26This is a bigger plot than their usual tax cut.
02:29Now last time, oh, they're so fiscally sound.
02:32We can't feed the children because it's going to add to the national debt.
02:37No, we can give tax breaks to the richest people in America.
02:39It added $2 trillion in 2017.
02:45It added $2 trillion to the national debt.
02:50This time, chicken feed.
02:53They're going to add $4.5 trillion to the national debt.
02:57And at the same time, use it at the same time,
03:04talk about cutting.
03:06Now, $1 trillion, over $700 billion from Medicaid.
03:11$300 billion from SNAP.
03:15Just that.
03:17$1 trillion.
03:18Food out of the mouths of babies.
03:20Money in the pocket of billionaires.
03:22It's just plain wrong.
03:24But we have to be hopeful because in 17, when they did what they did,
03:30in 18, with the help of so many of you,
03:33we were able to have 10,000 events around the country
03:35to save the Affordable Care Act.
03:38Now we have to save Medicaid.
03:41Hands off our Medicaid.
03:44Hands off our Medicaid.
03:47Hands off our Medicaid.
03:49No tax break for billionaires.
03:52You know, some of these billionaires, they say,
03:55oh, I'm so tired of hearing Democrats say,
03:58no tax breaks for billionaires.
04:03You're tired of it?
04:04Well, we're tired of tax breaks for billionaires.
04:06You want to be tired?
04:08You ain't seen nothing yet.
04:09Because in 18 months, with your help, just as we did in 17,
04:13when 18, we won back the house.
04:16In 18, we stopped them in their tracks because they couldn't do anything more.
04:22They didn't have the house.
04:23So in 18 months, Hakeem Jeffries will be the speaker of the house.
04:28The speaker of the house, and it will be the end of what they plan to do.
04:33But we can't do it without you.
04:35So as I say, know your power.
04:39You said we can end gun violence.
04:41You probably know this.
04:43Thank you for that.
04:44And what they have in this bill, there's a $200 tax on silencers.
04:56It's been there for almost 100 years, since like 1930.
05:01$2,000 tax on silencers.
05:03They're taking it off.
05:05They're taking it off.
05:07It's going to take, it's going to bring, lift over a billion dollars.
05:15Is that wrong?
05:16I mean, it's silencers.
05:19Over 100, about 100 years, they're doing that.
05:23They're going after a woman's right to choose everything that is about family.
05:27So thank you for families over billionaires, babies over billionaires.
05:32Thank you, Planned Parenthood.
05:33Thank all of you for what you are doing.
05:35Tax of rich, tax of rich, tax of rich, hands off our Medicaid, hands off our Medicaid.
05:52And let me just say this one last thing, because people say, oh, it's just for poor people.
05:57One of them said, if you believe this, one of the Republicans said, why do people think
06:01that they should have Medicaid?
06:02Oh, really?
06:03So here's the thing.
06:06People say, oh, it's for poor children.
06:08That would be justification enough.
06:10That's our moral responsibility.
06:12But it's a middle class benefit as well, because what it does is for families that need long-term
06:18care for seniors, they have to have that.
06:22And if families have people with disabilities, they need to have that, whatever their income
06:29level.
06:29So this is about everybody in our country being affected.
06:32We just have to make sure, and my daughter, Christina, making the calls to Republican districts from
06:42their own constituents.
06:44Nothing is more eloquent to a member of Congress than the voice of their own constituents.
06:49So tell your friends who live in Republican districts to call them and tell them, we know, we know
06:58what you're doing so that they know to be afraid.
07:02They may be afraid of what's-his-name, but they've got to be afraid of you, too.
07:08Thank you all.
07:09Hands off our Medicaid.
07:10Hey, hey, ho, ho, healthcare cuts out, got to go, hey, hey, ho, ho, healthcare cuts out,
07:21got to go, hey, hey, ho, ho.
