Bid to protect centuries old oak trees in Hoo from being removed

The five oak trees could be felled, but local councillor Michael Pearce is calling on the council to give them a protection order.  Ollie Leader reports.

00:24one local councillor has launched a petition to put in place a tree protection

00:30order to stop the oaks being chopped down I think culturally and historically they

00:38they are part of part of us part of this nation part of the local community people

00:44have seen these for generations I've had one resident mentioned to me that they

00:47used to see that tree this trees specifically on their own paper rounds

00:50when I was a young lad in terms of climate change and biodiversity these

00:54trees must be protected they're more important than smashing a cycleway

00:57right down Christmas Lane which hardly anyone's going to use a red rose

01:02spokesperson said it was continuing to work with medway council on its planning

01:08application and make any updates as necessary while the council say the

01:15proposals are still in the consultation phase which comes to an end in June

01:22that means while the petition has gained more than two thousand seven hundred

01:29signatures these oak trees aren't out of the woods just yet
