In a dramatic announcement from the Oval Office, Donald Trump unveils the $175 billion "Golden Dome" Missile Defense Shield, a revolutionary system designed to intercept and destroy missiles launched from anywhere in the world — even from space. Trump declared this high-tech defense initiative as the most advanced in history, promising to complete what Ronald Reagan envisioned 40 years ago. The Golden Dome will integrate space-based sensors, land-sea-air interceptors, and cutting-edge hypersonic countermeasures. Trump also named General Mike Gutline as the program’s head, highlighting bipartisan support and international interest — including from Canada.

00:00Thank you for being here, the Oval Office, as we make a historic announcement about the Golden Dome Missile Defense Shield.
00:07We will truly be completing the job that President Reagan started 40 years ago, forever ending the missile threat to the American Homeland B-1.
00:16Big, beautiful bill will include $25 billion for the Golden Dome.
00:21Thank you very much, and thank you for being here, the Oval Office, in the great places of the world.
00:27As we make a historic announcement about the Golden Dome Missile Defense Shield, that's something we want.
00:34And Ronald Reagan wanted it many years ago, but they didn't have the technology.
00:38But it's something we're going to have. We're going to have it at the highest level.
00:42I want to thank Secretary Hegseth, who's been fantastic, and Secretary Rubio and Space Force Vice Chief of Space Operations, General Mike Gutlein.
00:54I also want to recognize Senators Dan Sullivan, Kevin Kramer, and Jim Banks.
01:00Fantastic senators, great talents, great political talents, and people that love our country.
01:05In the campaign, I promised the American people that I would build a cutting-edge missile defense shield to protect our homeland from the threat of foreign missile attack.
01:15And that's what we're doing today.
01:18Today, I'm pleased to announce that we have officially selected an architecture for this state-of-the-art system that will deploy next-generation technologies across the land, sea, and space, including space-based sensors and interceptors.
01:33And Canada has called us, and they want to be a part of it.
01:36So we'll be talking to them.
01:38They want to have protection also.
01:40So, as usual, we help Canada do the best we can.
01:44This design for the Golden Dome will integrate with our existing defense capabilities and should be fully operational before the end of my term.
01:53So we'll have it done in about three years.
01:57Once fully constructed, the Golden Dome will be capable of intercepting missiles, even if they are launched from other sides of the world,
02:05and even if they are launched from space, and we will have the best system ever built.
02:11As you know, we helped Israel with theirs, and it was very successful, and now we have technology that's even far advanced from that.
02:20But including hypersonic missiles, ballistic missiles, and advanced cruise missiles, all of them will be knocked out of the air.
02:28We will truly be completing the job that President Reagan started 40 years ago, forever ending the missile threat to the American homeland.
02:38And the success rate is very close to 100 percent, which is incredible.
02:42When you think of it, you're shooting bullets out of the air.
02:45I'm also pleased to report that the one big, beautiful bill will include $25 billion for the Golden Dome to help construction get underway.
02:54That's the initial sort of a downposit.
02:56And we have probably, you're talking about, General, we're talking about $175 billion total cost of this when it's completed.
03:08This afternoon, I'm also announcing that I will appoint, very importantly, General Gutlein to lead the ambitious new effort
03:16as the direct reporting program manager for the Golden Dome.
03:20I'm a very talented man, and I'm very honored to have been the one that helped or really created Space Force.
03:27Space Force has turned out to be a tremendous success.
03:30We were third in space, and now we're number one in space by a lot.
03:33It's not even close.
03:35And Mike is a four-star Space Force general, the recipient of the Defense Distinguished Service Medal,
03:43one of the most respected people in the world, having to do with defense.
03:47You know, we have offense and we have defense.
03:49I'll bet he's good at offense, too.
03:51And he has an unmatched background in missile warning technology and defense procurement.
03:57General Gutlein also knows that we need to move fast.
04:00No one is more qualified for his job.
04:02And everybody, this was a universal acceptance of General Gutlein.
04:09Everybody that knows him and knows everybody else, they said there's only one man for the job,
04:13so I have a feeling we have the right guy.
